  • In this paper, we report on a set of new algorithms to realize a nonlinear compressed-domain video/audio editor that overcomes various realization problems. For efficiency, the underlying algorithm, which uses a central data structure in the form of doubled linked lists, performs soft edits of cut and paste (which, in turn, involves soft implementations of frame type conversion) and addresses problems relating to video/audio synchronization and random access, and decoder buffer control.

  • The sum-of-product type MVL (Multiple-valued logic) functions can be directly transformed into the exclusive-sum-of-literal-product(ESOLP) type MVL functions with a substitution of the OR operator with the exclusive-OR(XOR) operator. This paper presents an algorithm that can reduce the number of minterms for the purpose of minimizing the hardware size and the complexity of the circuit in the realization of ESOLP-type MVL functions. In Boolean algebra, the joinable true minterms can form the cube, and if some cubes form a cube-chain with adjacent cubes by the insertion of false cubes(or, false minterms), then the created cube-chain can become a large cube which includes previous cubes. As a result of the cube grouping, the number of minterms can be reduced artificially. Since ESOLP-type MVL functions take the MIN/XOR structure, a XOR circuit and a four-valued MIN/XOR dynamic-CMOS PLA circuit is designed for the realization of the minimized functions, and PSPICE simulation results have been also presented for the validation of the proposed algorithm.

Design and Multiplier-Free Realization of FIR Nyquist Filters with Coefficients Taking Only Discrete Values

  • This paper presents a design of FIR near-equiripple Nyquist filters having zero-intersymbol interference (ISI) and low sensitivity to timing jitter, with coefficients taking only discrete values. Using an affine scaling linear programming algorithm, an optimum discrete coefficient set can be obtained in a feasible computational time. Also presented is a pipelined multiplier-free FIR filter realization with periodically time-varying (PTV) coefficients based on a hybrid form suitable for Nyquist filter. The realization exploits the coefficient symmetry to reduce the hardware by about one half. High speed computation and low power consumption are achieved by its pipelined and low fan-out structure.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish the theory of the spatial composition that is 'The Structure of Relation' in Korean traditional houses. This study has been focused on the spatial composition of Hyangdan. The form composition is an element defining primitive functions and space and producing aesthetical effects, where 'quality as a substance' is not important but 'quality as a relation' is essential. Quality as a meaningful relationship comes from realization and regulation of visual attributes among form elements. Each form compositional element establishes the hierarchical structure logically with the entire order, In order for the quality of all form compositional elements to be clarified as a meaningful relationship logically, 'compositional concept' which combines a series of form elements into the grammatical dependence to a specific direction, has to be assumed. If the intrinsic relationship among a series of form compositional elements fails to confront with the 'contextual concept' which eventually indicates unique conditions for a place according to the refined compositional concept, the result of form composition never leads to a specific solution

  • Modal parameter identification plays a key role in the structural health monitoring (SHM) for civil engineering. Eigensystem realization algorithm (ERA) is one of the most popular identification methods. However, the complex environment around civil structures can introduce the noises into the measurement from SHM system. The spurious modes would be generated due to the noises during ERA process, which are usually ignored and be recognized as physical modes. This paper proposes an improved stabilization diagram method in ERA to distinguish the spurious modes. First, it is proved that the ERA can be performed by any two Hankel matrices with one time step shift. The effect of noises on the eigenvalues of structure is illustrated when the choice of two Hankel matrices with one time step shift is different. Then, a moving data diagram is proposed to combine the traditional stabilization diagram to form the improved stabilization diagram method. The moving data diagram shows the mode variation along the different choice of Hankel matrices, which indicates whether the mode is spurious or not. The traditional stabilization diagram helps to determine the concerned truncated order before moving data diagram is implemented. Finally, the proposed method is proved through a numerical example. The results show that the proposed method can distinguish the spurious modes.

  • The problem of quantization errors in digital filter design arises because of the practical necessity due to finite wordlength implementation. These errors are classified into coefficient quantization error and roung off error. In this paper, in order to analyze and reduce these errors, minimum ceefficient quantization realization is directly derived form impulse responese design specification. And using the equivalent transform relation between minimum coefficient quantization error and minimum roundoff error realizations, we synthesize an optimal realization state-space digital filter. This technique is analyzed by the simulation of an approximated 3rd model, which shows that it is superior to direct or cascade state-space digital filter in quantization errors.

  • The DVR system realization with watermarking and MPEG-4 for real time processing speed improvement is presented in this paper. For the real time processing the system is used the DSP processor, Quick DMA for data transmission, watermarking for security and MPEG-4 compression for facility. The algorithms are that the operational structure has the internal memory of processor, and the optimal realization is suitable to form the DSP processor structure r processed for the iterative operations. The experimental result shows the real time processing is improved 12% over for the D1 image in comparison with the other system.

  • High-rise buildings often can accommodate the population of small horizontal cities. The investment in high-rise buildings is considerable and therefore a rapid return on investment is necessary. The immediate availability of high-rise buildings can be achieved by automated prefabrication of highly finished modules and their instant on-site assembly by robotic and automated construction sites. A high-rise building as a vertical city can be considered as a sophisticated organism that can constantly change throughout its lifecycle in response to economic growth, demographic change, and environmental pressures. To date, many new urban high-rise developments claim to be "vertical cities", yet few represent this important characteristic. This article analyzed the technological readiness and innovations in the field of construction automation and robotics including single-task construction robots, automated on-site construction factories, and ambient assisted living. These technological advances enable the realization of future vertical cities that are able to continuously grow and transform in terms of form and function. Finally, the article proposes a visionary archetype of vertical city in the name of "dynamic vertical urbanism" that is easy to expand vertically and horizontally in order to achieve instant availability and full life cycle resilience thanks to advanced building technologies.

  • This paper presents the realization of a four-terminal floating nullor (FTFN), which is simple configuration comprised three OTAs. The external bias currents of the OTAs can electronically adjust the current gain of the proposed FTFN. The realization method is suitable for implementation in monolithic integrated form. To demonstrate the circuit performances, the proposed FTFN was simulated by the use of the PSPICE analog simulation program and implemented using the commercially available OTAs. The simulation and experimental results verifying the performances of the proposed circuit are agreed with the theoretical values. Some application example in the design of the proposed FTFN as electronically tunable active element are also included.

Single S-a-E fault tolerance of the triangular cellular permutation networks (삼각형 셀룰러 순열 네트워크에서의 단일 s-a-E 결함 허용)

  • In this paper, for the single s-a-E fault detected in a triangular cellular permutation network (TCPN), we propose a method which can tolerate a fault by reconfiguring the netowrk and analyze the possibilities of the reconfiguration. The network is set up through iterative decomposition of a permutation into the right or left coset. For the s-a-E fault of a cell which is to be transpositioned for an increasing order mapping, we cna reconfigure it merely by switching te decomposition scheme from right coset to left coset or vice versa. Also for a decreasing order mapping, we make a detour around the faulty cell. Reconfiguring with the redundant connectivity of a TCPN, we could realize form 17% to 90% of the permutation for the number of inputs from 4 to 40. REconfiguration of the network by exchanging the first input with the last input and the first output with the last output resulted in more than 99% realization of the permutation. Also with the exchange of all inputs and outputs with neighboring cells, we could have 100% realization of the permutation.
