  • With the dynamic and mobile nature of ad hoc networks, links may fail due to topology changes. So, a major challenge in ad hoc network is dynamically to search paths from a source to destination with an efficient routing method, which is an important issue for delay-sensitive real-time application. The main concerns of graph theory in communications are finding connectivity and searching paths using given nodes. A topology of the nodes in ad hoc networks can be modeled as an adjacency matrix. In this paper, based on this adjacency matrix, we propose new path search algorithms using a sequence of matrix calculation. The proposed algorithms can search paths from a destination to a source using connectivity matrix. Two matrix-based algorithms for two different purposes are proposed. Matrix-Based Backward Path Search(MBBS) algorithm is designed for shortest path discovery and Matrix-Based Backward Multipath Search(MBBMS) algorithm is for multipath search.

  • Variable Message Signs have been used for providing information on the current traffic conditions. However, it is considered more important to achieve optimal traffic allocation among the alternative routes by strategic VMS information provision. Fuzzy control is very effective and efficient to deal with such systems that are too complex and uncertain to build mathematical models. In this paper, a fuzzy feedback controller for VMS is proposed, whose goal is to achieve the travel time equilibrium between the two alternative routes. The performance of the suggested controller is implemented and examined using MATLAB/Simulink. More robust controller applicable to a real highway network is suggested for the further research.

  • Today's Internet is one of the necessaries of our life. Anomalies of the Internet provoke social problems. For that reason, Internet Measurement which studies characteristics on Internet traffic attracts pubic attention. Recently, Traffic Dispersion Graph (TDG), a novel traffic analysis method, was proposed. The TDG is not a statistical analysis method but a graphical visualization method on interactions among network components. In this paper, we propose a new anomaly detection paradigm and its technique using TDG. The existing studies have focused on detecting anomalous packets of flows. On the other hand, we focus on detecting the sources of anomalous traffic. To realize our paradigm, we designed the TDG Clustering method. Through this method, we could classify anomalous hosts infected by various worm viruses. We obtained normal traffic through dropping traffic of the anomalous hosts. Especially, we expect that the TDG clustering method can be applied to real-time anomaly detection because calculations of the method are fast.

  • We propose a new machine learning algorithm which analyzes daily activity patterns of users from multi-modal wearable sensor data. The proposed model learns and extracts activity patterns using input from wearable devices in real-time. Inspired by cue integration of human's property, we constructed gated multi-modal neural networks which integrate wearable sensor input data selectively by using gate modules. For the experiments, sensory data were collected by using multiple wearable devices in restaurant situations. As an experimental result, we first show that the proposed model performs well in terms of prediction accuracy. Then, the possibility to construct a knowledge schema automatically by analyzing the activation patterns in the middle layer of our proposed model is explained.

  • Structures like bridges or buildings need to be checked continuously to diagnose their safety. However, it is extremely difficult for the people who access such structures to check all areas directly. To overcome this problem, there is a lot of active research into structural health monitoring (SHM) with wireless sensor nodes (WSNs). In this paper, for more accurate checking of SHM with WSNs, we experimentally compare and evaluate the performance of Xenomai, which provides real-time processing under the traditional Linux kernel. For this purpose, we patch Xenomai into the traditional Linux kernel of a commercial embedded board, Raspberry Pi, and implement a task that periodically reads vibration data of the z-axis from an accelerometer in order to analyze the natural frequency of cantilever beams. Reading the data from the traditional Linux kernel with the same method, we analyze the natural frequency of the cantilever beams using Smart Office Analyzer. Finally, to review the validity of Xenomai for WSNs, we obtain vibration data on the z-axis from the accelerometer via wired network and compared and analyzed them the same way.
