A Simulation Study on Efficiency of Container Crane in Container Terminal (컨테이너 터미널에서 컨테이너 크레인의 하역능력 추정에 관한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • This paper describes the simulation study which estimates the container crane efficiency in container terminal. In most simulation studies, it is assumed that container cranes are available at any time. Though the failures of container cranes don't occur often, they are very serious problems on terminal efficiency. As usual, the failures of container crane cause arrived ships to delay the departure time. In this study, a queueing simulation model for container terminal, which focuses on the failures of container cranes, is designed. The simulation approach appears to be the most appropriate one because it allows to avoid the usual exponential assumption on interarrivals of ships and service times of container cranes. Using the developed model, we tested the efficiency of container cranes considering failures with a real system size and performed the simulation experiment on real container terminal to validate the developed simulation model. The results of simulation experiment were analyzed using output statistics, which include the waiting times of vessels and yard tractors, the utilization for container cranes, and the berth occupancy rates.

Design and Verification of Spacecraft Pose Estimation Algorithm using Deep Learning

  • This study developed a real-time spacecraft pose estimation algorithm that combined a deep learning model and the least-squares method. Pose estimation in space is crucial for automatic rendezvous docking and inter-spacecraft communication. Owing to the difficulty in training deep learning models in space, we showed that actual experimental results could be predicted through software simulations on the ground. We integrated deep learning with nonlinear least squares (NLS) to predict the pose from a single spacecraft image in real time. We constructed a virtual environment capable of mass-producing synthetic images to train a deep learning model. This study proposed a method for training a deep learning model using pure synthetic images. Further, a visual-based real-time estimation system suitable for use in a flight testbed was constructed. Consequently, it was verified that the hardware experimental results could be predicted from software simulations with the same environment and relative distance. This study showed that a deep learning model trained using only synthetic images can be sufficiently applied to real images. Thus, this study proposed a real-time pose estimation software for automatic docking and demonstrated that the method constructed with only synthetic data was applicable in space.

Real-time monitoring of grab dredging operation using ECDIS (ECDIS에 의한 grab 준설작업의 실시간 모니터링에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes on the real-time monitoring of dredging information for grab bucket dredger equipped with winch control sensors and differential global positioning system(DGPS) using electronic chart display and information system(ECDIS). The experiment was carried out at Gwangyang Hang and Gangwon-do Oho-ri on board M/V Kunwoong G-16. ECDIS system monitors consecutively the dredging's position, heading and shooting point of grab bucket in real-time through 3 DGPS attached to the top bridge of the dredger and crane frame. Dredging depth was measured by 2 up/down counter fitted with crane winch of the dredger. The depth and area of dredging in each shooting point of grab bucket are displayed in color band. The efficiency of its operation can be ensured by adjusting the tidal data in real-time and displaying the depth of dredging on the ECDIS monitor. The reliance for verification of dredging operation as well as supervision of dredging process was greatly enhanced by providing three-dimensional map with variation of dredging depth in real time. The results will contribute to establishing the system which can monitor and record the whole dredging operations in real-time as well as verify the result of dredging quantitatively.

  • Requirement level regarding processing and managing real-time datastream in an ubiquitous environment is increased. Especially, due to the unbounded, high frequency and real-time characteristics of datastream, development of specialized stroge manager for DSMS is necessary to process such datastream. Existing DSMS, e.g. Coral8, can support datastream processing but it is not scalable and cannot perform well when handling large-volume real-time datastream, e.g. 100 thousand over per second. In the case of Oracle10g, which is generally used in related field, it supports storing and management processing. However, it does not support real-time datastream processing. In this paper, we propose specialized storage manager of DSMS for real-time compressed storing on semiconductor or LCD production facility of Samsung electronics, Hynix and HP. Hynix and HP. This paper describes the proposed system architecture and major components and show better performance of the proposed system compared with similar systems in the experiment section.

  • Recent performing-art has a trend to be new cultural contents style which mixes various genre not just traditional way. Especially in stage performance, unique performance is playing using high technology and image. In sound performance, one of technology, a new experiment is trying which re-analyze the sound and mixes the result with image. But in public performance we have a technical difficulty with making visualization regarding the sound in realtime. Because we can not make visualization with instant sound from performers and audience it is difficult to interact smoothly between performer and audience. To resolve this kind of restriction, this paper suggests Real-time sound visualization. And we use string music instrument for sound source. Using the MaxMSP/Jitter based the Midi, we build image control system then we test and control the image with Korg Nano Kontrol. With above experiment we can verify verious emotion, feeling and rhythm of performer according to performance environment and also we can verify the real time interactive image which can be changed momently by performer's action.

  • We have experimented an actual solar water heating system acquiring real data for one year period. On the basis of the operation data, it is necessary to predict the system performance such as collector efficiency and solar fraction, and to analyze the economical efficiency for system optimal design. To estimate the performance of actual systems through simulation, valid modelling for components consisting of the system should be accompanied. The present study is focused on the modelling for load patterns and operating control conditions. We proposed two load models: concentration model which gathers real loads as a meaningful group and distribution model which disperses real loads with time. If grouping of the load distribution is suitable, the predicted values by the concentration model approaches to those by the distribution model close to actual load pattern apparently. As a result, both of them are in good agreement with those by experiment.

Real-time Projectile Motion Trajectory Estimation Considering Air Resistance of Obliquely Thrown Object Using Recursive Least Squares Estimation (비스듬히 던진 물체의 공기저항을 고려한 재귀 최소 자승법 기반 실시간 포물선 운동 궤적 추정)

  • This paper uses a recursive least squares method to estimate the projectile motion trajectory of an object in real time. The equations of motion of the object are obtained considering the air resistance which occurs in the actual experiment environment. Because these equations consider air resistance, parameter estimation of nonlinear terms is required. However, nonlinear recursive least squares estimation is not suitable for estimating trajectory of projectile in that it requires a lot of computation time. Therefore, parameter estimation for real-time trajectory prediction is performed by recursive least square estimation after using Taylor series expansion to approximate nonlinear terms to polynomials. The proposed method is verified through experiments by using VICON Bonita motion capture system which can get three dimensional coordinates of projectile. The results indicate that proposed method is more accurate than linear Kalman filter method based on the equations of motion of projectile that does not consider air resistance.

Development of the Adaptive PPF Controller for the Vibration Syppression of Smart Structures (지능구조물 제어를 위한 적응형 PPF 제어기의 개발)

  • This research is concerned with the development of a real-time adaptive PPF controller for the active vibration suppression of smart structure. In general, the tuning of the PPF controller is carried out off-line. In this research, the real-time learning algorithm is developed to find the optimal filter frequency of the PPF controller in real time and the efficacy of the algorithm is proved by implementing it in real time. To this end, the adaptive algorithm is developed by applying the gradient descent method to the predefined performance index, which is similar to the method used popularly in the optimization and neural network controller design. The experiment was carried out to verify the validity of the adaptive PPF controller developed in this research. The experimental results showed that adaptive PPF controller is effective for active vibration control of the structure which is excited by either impact or harmonic disturbance. The filter frequency of the PPF controller can be tuned in a very short period of time thus proving the efficiency of the adaptive PPF controller.

  • Methods of discharging each graded agricultural product are divided into two according to the type of feeding. One is based on feeding objects using a series of specially designed holders mounted with an equal interval. The other is randomly feeding objects while being isolated without a specific interval. In this paper, a real time simultaneous discharge algorithm, which is good for objects randomly fed individually and for multi-objects located along a series of discharge buckets, was developed. And the developed algorithm was implemented to the controller and the performance was verified using the system developed for dried mushrooms. The discharge system used for the experiment was composed of a variable speed conveyor, a series of double channel bucket mounted along both sides of the conveyor, and a series of air nozzles and optic sensors. Developed algorithm worked perfectly and could be directly used for automatic discharge system for randomly feeding agricultural products.

  • The wavelet packet transform has been applied for QRS detection with squaring, window integration, and impulse filter techniques to cut down the false detection of QRS complex. This real time QRS detection has been performed on Simulink and Matlab. The correct QRS detection rates have reached to 99.75% in the experiment with 15 sets of ECG data from European ST-T database which are kept in Physionet.
