  • Up to date, operator assistance systems -fault diagnosis system, fault restoration system etc.- are developed for power system automation. In this condition, an efficiency test of assistance system must be performed to prove application in real power system. This paper presents an SCADA simulator for an efficiency test of the operator assistance system, which is developed in the SCADA system. The proposed simulator is implemented under Win95 with Pentium-PC.

  • Over the past several years, the application extent of the real-time systems is being expanded with the progress of civilization. An effort to minimize power consumption at the system is being accomplished in several fields from the design of an analog/digital circuit up to the device level Things of this effort have included the power optimum-technique to minimize power consumption at the digital logic circuit and the dynamic managed skill by means o( the decision of the operating system. In this paper, we designed of low power system by using Power-optimized method. As an effective low-power design, we designed the low power system which it has a monitoring system within the main board and a personal computer.

  • Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) can inject or absorb real and reactive power to or from a power system at a very fast rate on a repetitive basis. These characteristics make the application of SMES ideal for transmission grid control and stability enhancement. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the SMES model and scheme to control the active and reactive power through the power electronic device. Furthermore, an optimal priority scheme is proposed for the combination of active and reactive power control to be able to stabilize power transient swings.

  • This paper discusses the surveying of a power transmission line using Real Time Kinematic(RTK) GPS technology. The use of RTK provides users with an accurate position at the moment in time. Application result of a 765kV transmission line surveying proved to be more accurate and efficient than using a traditional EDM (Electro-magnetic distance measurement) method. More, decrease in numbers of trees cut down which is a major cause of public discontents was achieved. Improvements in doing a surveying of a power transmission line using GPS is expected in the future.

  • A electric power conversion system in a pumped storage power plant is important equipment for converting electric motor kinetic energy into electric power. A electric power conversion monitoring system consists of high voltage thyristor firing equipment, fault detection module, data gathering module, real time data processing equipment and man machine interface system. This paper describes electric power conversion system overview, the developed SFC monitoring system configuration including system characteristics, and successful application result to San-Cheong pumped storage power plant.

  • The Smart grids are considered as multi-disciplinary power systems where the communication networks are highly employed. This paper presents optimal wide area measurement system (WAMS) configuration in Nordic power system. The transition from SCADA to WAMS becomes now trend in all power systems to ensure higher reliability and data visibility. The optimization applied in this research considered the geographical regions of the Nordic power system. The research considered all the devices of WAMS namely phasor measurement units (PMUs), phasor data concentrators (PDCs) and communication links. The study also presents two scenarios for optimal WAMS namely base case and N-1 contingency as different operating conditions. The result of this research presents technical and financial results for WAMS configuration in a real power system. The optimization results are performed using MATLAB 2017a software application.

  • Industrial network, often referred to as fieldbus, becomes an indispensable component for intelligent manufacturing systems. Thus, in order to satisfy the real-time requirements of field devices such as sensors, actuators, and controllers, numerous fieldbus protocols have been developed. But, the application of fieldbus has been limited due to the high cost of hardware and the difficulty in interfacing with multi-vendor products. As an alternative to fieldbus, the Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) technology is being adapted to the industrial environment. However, the crucial technical obstacle of Ethernet is its non-deterministic behavior that cannot satisfy the real-time requirements. Recently, the EtherCAT protocol becomes a very promising alternative for real-time industrial application due to the elimination of uncertainties in Ethernet. This paper focuses on the implementation of the IEC 61800 based real-time EtherCAT network for multi-axis smart driver. To demonstrate the feasibility of the implemented EtherCAT slave module, its synchronization performance is evaluated on the experimental EtherCAT testbed with a single axis smart driver.

  • 규제완화된 경쟁적 전력시장으로의 이행은 전력계통의 운영 및 계획에 있어서 기존의 중앙급전방식과는 다른 새로운 개념을 필요로 하고 있다. 경쟁적 전력시장에서의 전력계통 운영은 경제적 측면을 충분히 고려하여 보다 적은 여유로 운영될 것으로 예상된다. 따라서 SCOPF(Security Constrained Optimal Power Flow서 역할이 커지면서 실시간 안전도 처리에 대한 중요성이 보다 부각되고 있다. 본 논문은 On-Line 상의 적용을 가능하게 하는 SCOP떠 응용을 다룬다. 전력계통의 안전도 여유는 계통의 조건과 부하상황에 따라 시시각각 변화한다. 따라서 안전도 처리를 위한 민감도 계수 역시 전력계통 상태에 따라 재계산되고 적용 시에 갱신 처리되어야 한다. 본 논문의 목적은 안전도 처리를 위한 민감도 계수의 효율적인 사용을 통해 적정 안전도를 확보하여 이 알고리즘을 계통운영상에 실시간으로 적용 가능토록 하기 위함이다. 사례연구에서는 제안된 메커니즘을 간단한 예제계통에 적용하여, 상정사고에 대한 보다 안정적인 결과가 나타남을 보였다.

전기차 주행 데이터에 의한 경로별 배터리 상태 추정 (EV Battery State Estimation using Real-time Driving Data from Various Routes)

  • As the number of electric vehicles (EVs) in Jejudo Island increases, the secondary use of EV batteries is becoming increasingly mandatory not only in reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also in promoting resource conservation. For the secondary use of EV batteries, their capacity and performance at the end of automotive service should be evaluated properly. In this study, the battery state information from the on-board diagnostics or OBD2 port was acquired in real time while driving three distinct routes in Jejudo Island, and then the battery operating characteristics were assessed with the driving routes. The route with higher altitude led to higher current output, i.e., higher C-rate, which would reportedly deteriorate state of health (SOH) faster. In addition, the SOH obtained from the battery management system (BMS) of a 2017 Kia Soul EV with a mileage of 55,000 km was 100.2%, which was unexpectedly high. This finding was confirmed by the SOH estimation based on the ratio of the current integral to the change in state of charge. The SOH larger than 100% can be attributed to the rated capacity that was lower than the nominal capacity in EV application. Therefore, considering the driving environment and understanding the SOH estimation process will be beneficial and necessary in evaluating the capacity and performance of retired batteries for post-vehicle applications.

  • We proposed a new power system, Superconducting Power System. The SPS consists of superconducting power cables, fault current limiters, and transformers. The basic concept is to replace 154kV conventional cables with 22.9kV superconducting cables and to convert a 154kV substation into a 22.9kV switching station in downtown area. For the application of the SPS to real power system, it is very important to construct the protection system of the SPS. This study presents a protection system for the new Superconducting Power System (SPS).
