음운론적 인식과 처리능력이 4-6세 유아의 한글 단어 읽기에 미치는 영향 (Kindergartners' Reading of Words in Hangul : Effects of Phonological Awareness and Processing)

  • Causal relationships of kindergarteners' phonological awareness and processing to their ability to read words was investigated with the participation of 289 4- to 6-year-old children attending three kindergartens in Busan. Results showed gradual growth in reading ability with age. Children performed best in reading words and poorest in reading low frequency letters. They showed continuous development in skills of syllable deletion, phoneme substitution, phoneme insertion, phonological memory and naming. Discontinuous development was found in counting syllables. Longer syllables were difficult to count, and middle syllables of 3 syllable words were hard to delete. Children had poor perception of final consonants of Consonant-Vowel-Consonant syllables. Children's phonological awareness and processing were latent variables strongly related to ability to read words written in Hangul.

Kakao Deep Reading Index: Consumption Time as a Key Factor in News Curation Algorithm

  • This paper introduces the structure and effects of Kakao's news curation algorithm, which is created based on the Deep Reading Index (DRI). The DRI examines the extent of deep reading through content reading time, that is, the duration of reader engagement with an article. Current news curation algorithms focus on reader choice, with the click-through rate or pageviews as the gauge for consumption frequency. DRI is a product of the challenge of introducing and adopting a new factor called 'consumption time' instead of 'frequency of consumption', which is the basis of existing curation algorithms. The analysis of DRI-based services proves that the new algorithm can act as a curation system that is more effective in providing in-depth and quality news reports.

웹 기반 그림동화 활용 포괄적 언어교수 프로그램의 효과 (The Effectiveness of a Comprehensive Language Teaching Program Using Web-Based Picture Books)

  • This study investigated the effects on young children's vocabulary and reading ability of the comprehensive language-teaching program using web-based picture books. The comprehensive language program was put into operation for 9 weeks with a classroom teacher who had in-service training for this program. The language course for the 23 children in the control group consisted only of ordinary language activities using teacher-made picture cards. Test results analyzed by t-test showed that the 25 children in the experimental group gained more than the control group on reading attitude including the concept of reading, accuracy, verbal expression, participation, contents and originality. Also, the ability to read a fairy tale aloud increased in the experimental group.

언어영재의 문식성 환경, 독서태도, 지각된 언어능력 및 언어표현선호도가 쓰기수행에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Home Literary Environment, Reading Attitude, Perceived Verbal Ability, and Preference for Verbal Expression on the Writing Performance of the Verbally Gifted)

  • For this study of the writing performance of verbally gifted elementary and middle school students and its relations to home literary environment, reading attitude, perceived verbal ability, and preference for verbal expression, a sample of 101 verbally gifted children was recruited from classes in a gifted education institute in P metropolitan area. Results of path analyses show that verbally gifted children's home literary environment affects reading attitude and perceived verbal ability; reading attitude and perceived verbal ability affects preference for verbal expression; and preference for verbal expression directly affects writing performance. Results imply that the indirect relations of home literary environment to verbally gifted children's writing performance are an important foundation for developing preference for verbal expression and writing skills.

Developing EFL Students' Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension Skills within an Interactive Learning Environment

  • The current study investigates the effects of an interactive learning environment on EFL students' vocabulary acquisition and reading comprehension skills. The study utilized a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 41 students enrolled in the English program at Umm Al-Qura University studying Reading in EFL course in Summer 2018/2019. The sample was randomly divided into two groups: A control group consisting of 21 students and an experimental group of 20 students. The results revealed statistically significant differences at (α≤ 0.01) between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group in the posttest of the vocabulary test and the reading comprehension test favoring the experimental group. Finally, the study concluded with a call for more studies on modern technologies in teaching EFL skills in the Saudi context.

초등 과학 '읽기 자료'의 이해력 향상을 위한 자료 개발 및 그 효과 (The Development of materials and the Effects to Improve Understanding of Science Reading Materials for Elementary Students)

  • This study analyzed the reading materials presented in the existing 'Experiment Observation' targeting 31 elementary school students and conducted a preliminary investigation to examine the cause which makes the science reading materials of elementary school difficult to read. Also, on the basis of a preliminary investigation, this study developed the reading materials on science. After that, by examining the degree of understanding about existing reading materials on 'Experiment Observation' targeting 55 students of elementary schools and the newly developed reading materials targeting 44 students of elementary schools, the study proved its effect. As the result of the study, the causes for which students felt difficulty in reading were as follows: the scientific or non-scientific terms were explained by using more higher levels of Chinese characters compared to the levels of students; the scientific terms never treated in the classroom were used in the reading materials without any explanation; the overall structure of existing reading materials was distracted and listed the fragments of information, and the sentences were described complicatedly; the contents of a text and the photo materials were not connected functionally. In addition, the newly developed science reading materials were preferred by students because more various methods were devised, such as more systematic structure, arrangements of simpler sentence structure, additional explanation of scientific terms, divisions of paragraphs and postscript and their understanding was found to be improved.

  • The purpose of this study was providing implications in teaching and learning activities to vitalize mathematical communication and to raise positive attitudes about mathematics. We analyzed mathematical communication, disposition and attitudes of the students who had lower mathematical achievement rather than that of Korean language in class using reading materials and strategies. We found that teaching-learning activities using the reading materials and strategies let the low achievers in mathematics communicate more about mathematical notions and problem-solving process actively. The activities triggered interests and attention of mathematics and self-study. In addition, the lessons with reading materials and strategies aroused confidence, will and responsibility to mathematics learning to the students. They made the learners notice mathematics' values and roles and gave the opportunity of reflection about students' learning processes. As a result, the teaching-learning using reading materials and strategies should be developed and accomplished actively in classroom to turn mathematical inclination and attitudes of the students who had had negative inclination and attitudes to mathematics into those of positive and to vitalize mathematical communication to the lower achievers in mathematics.

고등학교 과학 수업에서 의미지도 읽기 전략이 고등학생의 과학 텍스트 읽기 능력에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Implementing Semantic Mapping Reading Strategy in Science Class On High School Students' Science Text Reading Ability)

  • 이 연구는 과학 수업에서 의미지도 읽기 전략이 고등학생의 과학 텍스트 읽기 능력에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 중소도시 소재의 과학중점학교 3학년 학생들(40명)을 대상으로 한 학기 동안 사회과학적 이슈와 화학 개념에 대한 8개의 과학 텍스트를 이용하여 의미지도 읽기 전략 수업을 적용하였다. 의미지도 읽기 전략이 과학 텍스트 읽기 능력에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 학생들이 작성한 사전·사후 과학 읽기 능력 검사를 비교 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 의미지도 수업을 적용한 실험집단의 과학 읽기 능력 검사 점수의 평균이 비교집단보다 유의미하게 높았다. 읽기 과제를 해결하기 전에 의미지도를 그리는 것은 학생들이 텍스트에서 정보를 찾고, 의미를 추론하는 것에 효과가 나타났다. 학생들 역시 의미지도가 텍스트의 내용을 시각화하여 개념들 사이의 관계를 파악하기 쉽고, 자신의 배경지식과 텍스트 내용을 연결시킬 수 있어 텍스트의 이해에 도움이 된다고 인식하고 있음을 알 수 있다.

멀티미디어 기술을 활용한 초등학교 수준별 독서교육지원 시스템 개발 및 효과검증 (Development and Effect Verification of Leveled Reading Education Support System Using Multimedia Technology for Elementary School)

  • 초등학교 학생들의 독서능력과 수준을 고려한 독서교육을 위해 본 연구진이 선행연구로 개발한 멀티미디어 기술을 활용한 수준별 독서지원 시스템에서는 학생들의 독서능력을 진단할 수 있는 진단지, 독서능력에 알맞은 도서 및 독서방법 안내, 멀티미디어 기술을 활용한 다양한 감상표현활동 등을 개발하였다[4]. 그러나 독서교육 방법과 도서는 수준별로 제시하여 주었으나 독후활동은 수준에 관계없이 동일한 활동을 제시함으로써 수준에 알맞은 독후활동의 어려움이 제기되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 제7차 초등학교 국어과 하위목표와 교육부 ICT 기준안을 고려하여 독서에 흥미를 가질 수 있도록 학생들의 독서능력에 알맞은 멀티미디어 기술을 활용한 수준별 독후활동을 개발하고 수준별 독서교육지원시스템의 효과 검증을 하고자 하였다. 멀티미디어 기술을 활용한 수준별 독후활동은 웹상에서 안내되고 웹상에서 활동할 수 있으며, 표현 방법에 기존의 텍스트가 아닌 멀티미디어적 요소가 가미되어 학생들에게 독후활동에 대한 흥미와 관심을 높일 수 있었고 이를 통해 독서능력 향상과 자기주도적 학습력 신장에 도움을 줄 수 있었다.

증강현실 활용 독서가 역사 독서 몰입, 흥미 및 지식 습득에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of a History Book Implementing Augmented Reality on Flow of Reading, Interest, and Knowledge Acquisition)

  • 본 연구는 증강현실 활용 역사 독서가 초등학생들의 역사 독서 몰입, 역사 흥미 및 역사 지식 습득에 미치는 영향과 증강현실 활용 독서에 대한 인식을 탐색하였다. 연구를 위해 증강현실 콘텐츠가 포함된 역사책과 증강현실 콘텐츠가 제외된 동일 책을 초등학교 3, 4학년생으로 구성된 실험집단(15명)과 통제집단(15명)에게 제공하였다. 실험 후 역사 독서 몰입, 흥미 및 지식수준에 대한 검사를 실시한 결과 증강현실 활용 독서가 역사 독서 몰입과 역사 흥미 향상에 긍정적인 효과가 있었으나, 역사 지식 습득에서는 유의한 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 또한 학습자들은 증강현실을 통해 공부하는 과정이 즐겁고 재미있다고 인식하였으며, 재미와 흥미를 유발하는 캐릭터, 소리, 현실감 있는 모션, 선명한 3D가 나오는 증강현실 콘텐츠를 선호하였다. 학생들이 선호하는 증강현실 콘텐츠는 재미있는 캐릭터, 긴 동영상과 자막, 그리고 오랫동안 스마트기기를 들지 않고 증강현실 영상을 볼 수 있는 형태 등이었다.
