The effect of polymeric diphenyl methane-4,4-diisocyanate (pMDI) or 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) in the UMF resin was discussed for improvement of the dry and wet shear strengths of plywood manufactured from high moisture content veneers. The curing behavior of UMF resin by pMDI or HDI content was examined by DSC and TGA, and its adhesion performance was evaluated by dry and wet shear strength tests of plywood. With the increase of pMDI content in the UMF resin, the curing temperature, reaction enthalpy (${\Delta}H$), and thermal stability consistently increased. With the increase of HDI content in the UMF resin, however, the curing temperature and reaction enthalpy (${\Delta}H$) decreased consistently and the thermal stability slightly increased in the range of 200 to $400^{\circ}C$ but decreased beyond $400^{\circ}C$. Also, the dry tensile shear strength increased up to the pMDI content of 5% and then decreased with its further addition but the wet tensile shear strength showed slight tendency to increase with the increase of pMDI content in the UMF resin. As the HDI content increased, however, the dry and wet tensile shear strengths of plywood consistently increased.
With increasing environmental concerns, application of lead-free solder and fluxless soldering process have been taken attention from the electronic packaging industry. Plasma treatment is one of the soldering methods for the fluxless soldering, and it can prevent environmental pollution cased by flux. On this study fluxless soldering process under $Ar-H_2$plasma using lead free solders such as Sn-3.5 wt%Ag, Sn-3.5 wt%Ag-0.7 wt%Cu and Sn-37%Pb for a reference was investigated. As the plasma reflow has higher soldering temperature than normal air reflow, the effects of UBM(Under Bump Metallization) thickness on the interfacial reaction and bonding strength can be critical. Experimental results showed in case of the thin UBM, Au(20 nm)/Cu(0.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$)/Ni(0.4 $\mu\textrm{m}$)/Al(0.4 $\mu\textrm{m}$), shear strength of the soldered joint was relatively low as 19-27㎫, and it's caused by the crack observed along the bonded interface. The crack was believed to be produced by the exhaustion of the thin UBM-layer due to the excessive reaction with solder under plasma. However, in case of thick UBM, Au(20 nm)/Cu(4 $\mu\textrm{m}$)/Ni(4 $\mu\textrm{m}$)/Al(0.4 $\mu\textrm{m}$), the bonded interface was sound without any crack and shear strength gives 32∼42㎫. Thus, by increasing UBM thickness in this study the shear strength can be improved to 50∼70%. Fluxed reflow soldering under hot air was also carried out for a reference, and the shear strength was 48∼52㎫. Consequently the fluxless soldering with plasma showed around 65∼80% as those of fluxed air reflow, and the possibility of the $Ar-H_2$ plasma reflow was evaluated.
Flower-like nickel oxide (NiO) catalysts were coated on NiCrAl alloy foam using a hydrothermal method. The structural, morphological, and chemical bonding properties of the NiO catalysts coated on the NiCrAl alloy foam were investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. To obtain flower-like morphology of NiO catalysts on the NiCrAl alloy foam, we prepared three different levels of pH of the hydrothermal solution: pH-7.0, pH-10.0, and pH-11.5. The NiO morphology of the pH-7.0 and pH-10.0 samples exhibited a large size plate owing to the slow reaction of the hydroxide ($OH^-$) and nickel ions ($Ni^+$) in lower pH than pH-11.5. Flower-like NiO catalysts (${\sim}4.7{\mu}m-6.6{\mu}m$) were formed owing to the fast reaction of $OH^-$ and $Ni^{2+}$ by increased $OH^-$ concentration at high pH. Thus, the flower-like morphology of NiO catalysts on NiCrAl alloy foam depends strongly on the pH of the hydrothermal solution.
Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is a common hydrophilic polymer that is synthesized through the saponification reaction of poly(vinyl ester)-based polymers, mostly using poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) as a precursor. The heterogeneous saponification reaction of poly(vinyl ester)-based films leads to PVA films with new surface properties. Cellulose acetate (CA), in which the hydroxyl group of cellulose is replaced by an acetyl group, is a typical cellulose derivative capable of overcoming the low processability of cellulose due to strong hydrogen bonding. In this study, P(VAc/VPi)/CA blended films were prepared by the solvent casting, and then PVA/Cellulose blended films with improved surface properties were prepared by heterogeneous saponification. The structural changes caused by heterogeneous saponification were confirmed by FT-IR analysis, where both saponification and deacetylation reactions occurred in the saponification solution. In addition, the surface property changes were analyzed by FE-SEM and contact angle analyses, and the transmittance changes of the modified films were also assessed.
Hydridonitrosyl complex의 촉매 활용 가능성과 반응 mechanism을 조사하기 위하여 $RuH(NO)(PPh_3)_3$와 RuH(NO)(etp)에 의한 ketone과 aldehyde의 수소화 반응을 연구하였다. 한편, RuH(NO)(etp)와 과잉의 $PPh_3$ 존재하에서 $RuH(NO)(PPh_3)_3$가 촉매 활성을 보이고 있음은 NO ligand의 결합방식의 변화를 통한 반응경로가 존재함을 확인하고 있다.
