As shear-warp volume rendering is the fastest rendering method among the software based approaches, image quality is not good as that of other high-quality rendering methods. In this paper, we propose two methods to improve the image quality of shear-warp volume rendering without sacrificing computational efficiency. First, supersampling is performed in intermediate image space. We propose an efficient method to transform between volume and image coordinates at the arbitrary ratio. Second, we utilize pre-integrated rendering technique for shear-warp rendering. We propose new data structure called overlapped min-max map. Using this structure, empty space leaping can be performed so that we can maintain the rendering speed even though pre-integrated rendering is applied. Consequently, shear-warp rendering can generate high-qualify images comparable to those generated by the ray-casting without degrading speed.
We present the design specifications and the performance estimation of the FUVS (Far Ultraviolet Spectrograph) proposed for the observations of aurora, day/night airglow and astronomical objects on small satelltes in the spectral range of $900~1750AA$. The design of FUVS is carried out with the full consideration of optical characteristics of the grating and the aspheric substrate. Two independent methods, ray-tracing and the wave front aberration theory, are employed to estimate the performance of the optical design and it is verified that both procedures yield the resolution of $2~5AA$ in the entire spectral range. MDF (Minimum Detectable Flux) is also estimated using the known characteristics of the reflecting material and MCP, to study the feasibility of detection for faint emission lines from the hot interstellar plasmas. The results give that the observations from 1 day to 1 week, depending on the line intensity, can detect such faint emission lines from diffuse interstellar plasmas.
The objective of this study was to understand the major changes of craniofacial dimensions and spatial growth pattern during the late embryonic and fetal period of human fetures. This study was performed with the selective materials of normal fetuses received from the Registry of Congenital Malformation of Seoul National University Hospital. The specimens consisted of nineteen embryos and sixty-six fetuses. The photomicrographs from mid-segittal sections of embryos were used for angular measurement, and the lateral cephalograms taken with soft X-ray were also measured in liners and angular aspects. All of the anatomical landmarks for the tracing of the photomicrographs and cephalograms were referred to the previous reports on literature. The sequential changes of prenatal craniofacial dimensions and agles were analysed statistically and discussed on the focus about the developmental growth directions of human ore-facial structure arised from heterogeneous origins. The results are as follows, 1) Cranial base angle was almost formed at about 6 weeks old embryos with the average angle of $127.4{\pm}6.33^{\circ}$ (n=3) and it was almost constant onwards. 2) The linear increase rates of anterior cranial base length and anterior facial height exceeded those of the posterior cranial base length and posterior facial height, and the maxilla grows more rapidly on the horizontal dimension than the vertical dmension during the fetal period. 3) The angular relationship between the anterior cranial base and palatal plane decreasedslightly during the fetal period, disclosing $11^{\circ}$ at 12th week gestation and $5^{\circ}$ at 41th weeks gestation. 4) Genial angle was maintained almost constantly at about $130^{\circ}$ during the fetal period from 12 weeks to 41 weeks of gestation.
More people prefer using rail traffic for travel or for commuting owing to its convenience and flexibility. The railway scenario has become an important communication scenario in the fifth generation era. The communication system should be designed to support high-data-rate demands with seamless connectivity at a high mobility. In this paper, the channel characteristics are studied and modeled for the railway tunnel scenario with straight and curved route shapes. On the basis of measurements using the "Mobile Hotspot Network" system, a three-dimensional ray tracer (RT) is calibrated and validated for the target scenarios. More channel characteristics are explored via RT simulations at 25.25 GHz with a 500-MHz bandwidth. The key channel parameters are extracted, provided, and incorporated into a 3rd-Generation-Partnership-Project-like stochastic channel generator. The necessary channel information can be practically realized, which can support the link-level and system-level design of the communication system in similar scenarios.
Packet propagation and absorption for the 28 GHz superconducting ECRIS under developing by KBSI Pusan center is analyzed with limited parameter range. The microwave power generated by 28 GHz gyrotron is axially injected to the plasma cavity through waveguide system. According to the analytical ray tracing calculation, the wave packet launched quasi-longitudinally at a high magnetic field side changes its direction from outward to inward as it is approaching resonance layer. Therefore, initially diverging wave does not likely hit a conducting surface before absorbing by electron cyclotron resonance. Also, absorption by plasma with moderate electron density is so strong that reflection by an extraction plate may not be expected.

Extra-oral imaging techniques such as Panoramic X-rays (PXs) and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) are the most preferred imaging modalities in dental clinics owing to its patient convenience during imaging as well as their ability to visualize entire teeth information. PXs are preferred for routine clinical treatments and CBCTs for complex surgeries and implant treatments. However, PXs are limited by the lack of third dimensional spatial information whereas CBCTs inflict high radiation exposure to patient. When a PX is already available, it is beneficial to reconstruct the 3D oral structure from the PX to avoid further expenses and radiation dose. In this paper, we propose 3DentAI - an U-Net based deep learning framework for 3D reconstruction of oral structure from a PX image. Our framework consists of three module - a reconstruction module based on attention U-Net for estimating depth from a PX image, a realignment module for aligning the predicted flattened volume to the shape of jaw using a predefined focal trough and ray data, and lastly a refinement module based on 3D U-Net for interpolating the missing information to obtain a smooth representation of oral cavity. Synthetic PXs obtained from CBCT by ray tracing and rendering were used to train the networks without the need of paired PX and CBCT datasets. Our method, trained and tested on a diverse datasets of 600 patients, achieved superior performance to GAN-based models even with low computational complexity.

In this paper, a new green clustering algorithm is proposed to be as a first approach in the framework of an energy efficient strategy for centralized enterprise high-density WLANs. Traditionally, in order to maintain the network coverage, all the APs within the WLAN have to be powered-on. Nevertheless, the new algorithm can power-off a large proportion of APs while the coverage is maintained as its always-on counterpart. The two main components of the new approach are the faster procedure based on K-means and the more accurate procedure based on Evolutionary Algorithm (EA), respectively. The two procedures are processes in parallel for different designed requirements and there is information interaction in between. In order to implement the new algorithm, EA is applied to handle the optimization of multiple objectives. Moreover, we adapt the method for selection and recombination, and then introduce a new operator for mutation. This paper also presents simulations in scenarios modeled with ray-tracing method and FDTD technique, and the results show that about 67% to 90% of energy consumption can be saved while it is able to maintain the original network coverage during periods when few users are online or the traffic load is low.

In this paper, we present the results of our research to perform 3D laser scanning functions by adding a focusing lens to a conventional 2D laser scanner. For the optical design, the ray-tracing technique was used along with a total of four lenses as the variable incident focusing lens, the collimating lens, and the F-Theta lens. As design variables, the curvature of the incident focusing lens (Lens #1) was assumed to be us, l mm and sumed mm, and the incident angles were set at 0cidenus, l. In addition, the distance between the focusing lens and the collimating lens was set to vary from 5 mm to 15 mm. When the incident focal length was varied from 5 mm to 15 mm, the exit focal length was calculated to vary from 67.5 mm to 56.8 mm for the lens with R = 100 mm and from 108.5 mm to 99.0 mm for the lens with R = 150 mm. When the incident angle was 0°, the focal aberration was only slightly observable at 10㎛ in both the x- and y-direction. At 7.5° was the focal aberration of approximately 20~50㎛ was measured at 20㎛. To investigate the chromatic aberration of the designed optical device, the distortion of the focus was observed when the 550 nm beam was simulated on lens designed for a 980 nm wavelength.

It is important issue to increase the efficiency of visibility operations in rendering since the most of rendering time is spent for performing visibility operations. In this paper, we present light buffers of area light sources, which provide efficient visibility operations from the sources. The light buffers are extended to support visibility operations not originated from the sources. We also explore their applications such as shadow generation, ray tracing and radiosity. Our experimental results show that the light buffers support more efficient visibility operations than the previously developed data structures including BSP trees, linear grids, and octrees.

In this paper, the technique of prediction and analysis on the characteristics of propagation in indoor environment is presented. This technique needs no reception sphere commonly used in 3D-ray tracing scheme, and thereby it lends us easy code realization. The validity of developed code is verified by comparing with the values of image methods and measurement. The developed technique applied to the structure of rectangular corridor with the iron door and we calculated the path loss for the variation of the iron door angle. The path loss decreased about 15 dB at the distance of30 m from the iron door and the delay spread increased approximately by four times. Based on the computation, we confirmed that indoor propagation in PCS is heavily affected by the iron door in corridor.
