In the microwave heating system, a ferroresonant transformer is used to regulate the magnetron power fluctuation. For the simplification, nonlinear characteristics of the transformer and the magnetron are idealized to be piecewise linear. Dipped peak shape of the magnetron current is explained qualitatively by considering the fundamental and third harmonic frequency components in the circuit. Design equations providing the values of the leakage inductance, turn ratio of the transformer and the capacitance are derived analytically by cosnidering the fundamental frequency component only. The ferroresonant transformer is designed to obtain a required regulation and high input power factor from the derived design equations, and analytical calculations are compared with experimental measurements.

In this paper, a soft switching DC-DC converter for AC module type photovoltaic (PV) module integrated converter is proposed. A push-pull converter is suitable for a low voltage PV AC module system because the step-up ratio of a high frequency transformer is high and the number of primary side switches is relatively small. However, the conventional push-pull converters do not have high efficiency because of high switching losses by hard switching and transformer losses (copper and iron losses) by high turns-ratio of the transformer. In the proposed converter, primary side switches are turned on at zero voltage switching (ZCS) condition and turned off at zero current switching (ZVS) condition through parallel resonance between secondary leakage inductance of the transformer and a resonant capacitor. Therefore the proposed push-pull converter decreases the switching loss using soft switching of the primary switches. Also, the turns-ratio of the transformer can be reduced by half using a voltage-doubler of secondary side. The theoretical analysis of the proposed converter is verified by simulation and experimental results.
This paper propose a transformer protective relaying algorithm based on the increment of flux linkages (RIFL) of the Primary and secondary windings. The RIFL is equal to the turn ratio for all operating conditions except an internal faults. For a single-phase transformer and three-phase Y-Y transformer, the increments of flux linkages are calculated and their ratios are compared with the turn ratio. For a three-phase Y-$\triangle$ transformer, the difference of the increments of flux linkages are calculated to use the line currents instead of the delta winding currents, which are practically unavailable. Their ratios are compared with the turn ratio. The results of various tests show that the algorithm successfully discriminates internal faults from normal operation conditions such as magnetic inrush and overexcitation. The algorithm can not only detect internal winding faults, but reduce the relay's operating time.

We have developed the calibration technique of the VT comparator using nonreactive standard resistors, which evaluates both accuracy and linearity of the VT comparator by comparing experimental values with theoretical values. The correction values of VT comparator obtained by using both our method and wide ratio error VT are consistent within the expanded uncertainty. Furthermore the specification for ratio error of VT comparator have been revaluated.

A voltage transformer(VT) used for the estabilishment of high voltage national standard, has generally ratio error and phase angle error. Both errors in VT depend critically on values of external burden of VT used. Both ratio ewer and phase angle error in existence of the external burden is calculated. These calculated values are very well consistent with the experimental result. The principle and the measurement method of VT in our institute are also explained.

A current transformer(CT) used for the estabilishment of high current national standard, has generally very small ratio error and phase angle error. Both the errors of CT depend critically on the external burden used. When both the ratio and phase angle errors at two different burdens including zero burden are known, those at any other burdens are calculated theoretically. The theoretical values are well consistent with the experimental results within the $82{\times}10$-6, implying the measurement system of CT in KRISS is well maintained.

Large Power transformer is a complex and critical component of power plant and consists of cellulosic paper, insulation oil, core, coil etc. Insulation materials of transformer and related equipment break down to liberate dissolved gas due to corona, partial discharge, pyrolysis or thermal decomposition. The dissolved gas kinds can be related to the type of electrical faults, and the rate of gas generation can indicate the severity of the fault. The identities of gases being generated are using very useful to decide the condition of transformation status. Therefore dissolved gas analysis is one of the best condition monitoring methods for power transformer. Also, on-line multi-gas analyzer has been developed and installed to monitor the condition of critical transformers. Rogers method, IEC method, key gas method and Duval Triangle method are used to failure diagnosis typically, and those methods are using the ratio or kinds of dissolved gas to evaluate the condition of transformer. This paper analyzes the reliability of transformer diagnostic methods considering actual dissolved gas concentration. Fault diagnosis is performed based on the dissolved gas of five transformers which experienced various fault respectively in the field, and the diagnosis result is compared with the actual off-line fault analysis. In this comparison result, Diagnostic methods using dissolved gas ratio like Rogers method, IEC method are sometimes fall outside the ratio code and no diagnosis but Duval triangle method and Key gas method is correct comparatively.

A coaxial-cable impedance transformer used in wideband frequency range is generally restricted to the fixed impedance transformation ratio as n2:1 or 1:n2(n: the number of coaxial cables). In this paper, we propose a new coaxial-cable impedance transformer to have an arbitrary impedance transformation ratio. We have fabricated three impedance transformers($50-{\Omega}$ to $25-{\Omega}$, $50-{\Omega}$ to $20-{\Omega}$ and $50-{\Omega}$ to $9-{\Omega}$) to confirm the operation characteristic of the suggested impedance transformer. The reflection characteristics (S11) of the fabricated $50-{\Omega}$ to $25-{\Omega}$ and $50-{\Omega}$ to $20-{\Omega}$ impedance transformer were less than -15dB over about 3-octaves frequency range and the reflection characteristic (S11) of the fabricated $50-{\Omega}$ to $9-{\Omega}$ impedance transformer was less than -15dB over about 1-octave frequency range, respectively.

In order to develope piezoelectric transformer for the ballast of fluorescent lamp, a new shape and electrode pattern of piezoelectric transformer has been investigated in this work. The composition of piezoelectric ceramics was 0.95Pb(Zr$_{0.51}$Ti$_{0.49}$)O$_3$+0.03Pb(Mn$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_3$+0.02Pb(Sb$_{1}$2/Nb$_{1}$2/)O$_3$. The sample prepared by this composition system showed the characteristics which has about 1200 of relative dielecric constant, 1100 of the mechanical quality factor, 0.53 of the electromechanical coupling coefficient, 320 pC/N of the piezoelectric constant d$_{33}$, 0.3 % of the dissipation factor. Diameter and thickness of disk-type piezoelectric transformer was 45 mm and 4 mm, respectively. The driving and generating electrode with their gap of 1mm were fabricated on the top surface. But the common electrode was fabricated on the whole bottom surface. The electrode surface ratio of driving and generating part on the top surface ranges from 1.4:1 to 3:1. We investigated the electrical characteristics with the variation of the electrode surface ratio of driving and generating part in the range of load resistance of 100 $\Omega$~70 k$\Omega$. The set-up voltage ratio of this piezoelectric transformer increases with increasing both the electrode surface of driving part and the load resistance. The set-up voltage ratio at no load resistance was more than 60 times. On the other hand, the efficiency decreases with increasing the electrode surface of driving part. In the case of the electrode surface of both 1.4:1 and 2:1, maximum efficiency showed above 97 % at load resistance of 2 k$\Omega$. However, in the case of the electrode surface of 3:1, maximum efficiency showed about 94 % at load resistance of 3 k$\Omega$.>.>.>.

In this paper, we investigated the output power, step-up ratio and efficiency properties of piezoelectric transformer with dielectric and piezoelectric characteristics of manufactured ceramics. The piezoelectric transformers with $2.0$\times$10$\times$48[$mm^3$] size were fabricated and its electrical properties were measured. When output power of 6W was constantly maintained, T2 piezoelectric transformer showed the minimum temperature rise of $9(^{\circ}C)$ at $150(K\Omega)$ load resistance. However, T1 piezoelecric transformer showed the temperature rise of $7.2(^{\circ}C)$ at $200(K\Omega)$ load resistance. The 6[w] CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) was successfully driven by T1 and T2 piezoelectric transformer but, its temperature rise $\Delta$T[$^{\circ}C)$] was generated more than $20(^{\circ}C)$. It is concluded that we have to design the piezoelectric transformers so that its output impedance correspond to the load impeadance, including any stray capacitance.
