  • In the design of wood structures, the consideration of the dynamic load effect has been increased. Generally, damping ratio is presented as the method of considering dynamic load effect. So, the relationship between joint type and damping ratio was investigated. It has been known that the joint extremely damp the dynamic load in wood structures. Static test was performed to determine the effects of nail size and friction area on joint strength and stiffness. Joint strength and stiffness were increased with nail size. However, the static properties of joint was not affected by friction area. Cyclic test was performed to determine the effects of nail size, friction area and load magnitude on damping ratio, Damping ratio was affected by all factors. Increasing the width of the bottom plate was suggested as the most adequate method to increase the damping ratio without the reduction of the static properties of the structures.

  • In this study, it enforced DMT test, CPTu test, laboratory consolidation test, because it estimated stress history of Gwangyang port marine clay. Through DMT test obtained Horizontal stress index($K_D$), predicted overconsolidation ratio by $K_D$. To compare empirical equation with laboratory consolidation test and CPTu test calculated OCR examined application. The result, Powell & Uglow(1988) method underestimated OCR value in comparison with Suggestion. Comparatively Byeon wi yong(2004) and Chang(1991) method seem to exactly predict in-situ stress states. Sugawara(1988) method of CPTu test seems to underestimate OCR.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams according to small shear span-depth ratio between a/d=1.5, 2.8, 3.6. In general, shear strength of reinforced concrete beams is dependent on the compressive strength of concrete the longitudinal steel ratio, the shear span-depth ratio and shear reinforcement. The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking, crack patterns, fracture modes. The load versus strain and load versus deflection relations were obtained from the static test. The test results on shear strength were compared with results obtained by the formulas of ACI code 318-95. The shear strength of reinforced concrete beams exceeded those predicted following present ACI code 318-95(11-6).

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the appropriate operating conditions through a factorial experiment for the secondary separating part of the self-propelled pepper harvester. Methods: An experimental setup that simulates the secondary separating part of the self-propelled pepper harvester was organized. Test samples were classified into three types according to the number of peppers on a stem, and 12 sets were prepared for each type. Among the operating conditions of the secondary separating part, the rotational speed of drum B (four levels), radial clearance between drums and cylindrical teeth (three levels), and speed ratio between the three drums (two levels) were set as the test factors, and tests were repeated three times for different levels of each factor. The appropriate operating conditions were determined by analyzing the separation ratio and damage ratio of the peppers collected through the secondary separating part. Results: The test factors changed the overall separation ratio and overall damage ratio in similar trends. In other words, the conditions that caused high overall separation ratios also exhibited high overall damage ratios. Owing to the high overall damage ratio in the condition with the highest overall separation ratio, the operating conditions should be selected considering both ratios. Conclusions: When the condition with more than 60% of overall separation ratio and less than 15% of overall damage ratio was considered as the appropriate operating condition, 70 rpm of the rotational speed of drum B, 5 mm of the radial clearance between drums and cylindrical teeth, and 7:3:5 for the speed ratio of the three drums A, B, and C should be applied for the secondary separating part used in this study. Supplementary studies will be required in the future to find optimal operating conditions through the actual field test under further divided test factors.

  • Robust analogues of the likelihood ratio test are considered for testing of hypotheses involving multiple discrete distributions. The test statistics are generalizations of the Hellinger deviance test of Simpson(1989) and disparity tests of Lindsay(1994), obtained by looking at a 'penalized' version of the distances; harris and Basu (1994) suggest that the penalty be based on reweighting the empty cells. The results show that often the tests based on the ordinary and penalized distances enjoy better robustness properties than the likelihood ratio test. Also, the tests based on the penalized distances are improvements over those based on the ordinary distances in that they are much closer to the likelihood ratio tests at the null and their convergence to the x$^2$ distribution appears to be dramatically faster; extensive simulation results show that the improvement in performance of the tests due to the penalty is often substantial in small samples.

  • This study introduces the new concept in the evaluation criteria of the $CO_2$ laser Tailored Blank weldability, The materials used are 0.7mm, 1.5mm thick low carbon automotive galvanized steels. Welding tests were conducted for both similar thickness(0.7mm-0.7mm, 1.5mm-1.5mm) and dissimilar thickness(0.7mm-1.5mm) cases. The criteria developed for optimum welding conditions were based on relationship between results of die press forming test, weld transverse tensile test Erichsen test and weld penetration measurements. Application of the developed criteria(fracture ratio, strength ratio and D/To) in obtaining optimum welding condition revealed that a weld which satisfied any of the criteria did not fracture during actual die press test.
