Early Exposure to Anti-androgen Compounds Induces the Delay in the Testis Development in Immature Male Rat (항안드로겐성 물질이 성 성숙 이전 단계의 정소에서 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The experiments investigated whether early exposure to testosterone propionate (TP) during prepuberty alters testis development in Sprague-Dawley male rats. We performed Hershberger assay using the stimulated weanling male rats by OECD protocols, cDNA microarray, and Western blot. TP was subcutaneously injected to uncastrated Sprague-Dawley male rat of 22 days old for 10 consecutive days at doses of 0.4, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.6 mg/kg per day. At necropsy, the following tissues were removed and weighed: combined testes, epididymides (Epi), Cowper's glands (COW), levator am, and bulbocavernosus muscles (LABC), seminal vesicles, together with coagulating gland (SV) and ventral prostate (VP). We found that TP increased the weights of Epi, VP, SV, COW, and LABC, while testis was decreased in a dose-dependent manner. In cDNA microarray analysis of testis, there were significant reductions in the expression of cytochrome P450 11A (CYP11A), the rate-limiting enzyme of steroidogenesis. Taken together these results, TP exposure before puberty in male rats may produce the delay in testis development by inhibiting the CYP11A gene expression.

Production of the ultra fine-composite powders of WC-Co and WC-Ni (초미립의 탄화 텅스텐-코발트와 탄화 텅스텐-니켈 복합분말의 제조)

  • The grain size of the final products of WC-Co and WC-Ni composite powders is dependent on the size of the starting material and the conditions employed for the reduction and carburization. APT-Co and -Ni com-plex salts were prepared by the substitution reaction between ammonium ions in APT and the metal ions in Co(NO3)2 and Ni(NO3)2 solutions of different concentrations(0.1 to 0.7M) at $50^{\circ}C$ and the grain sizes of the com-plex salts was $0.54~0.76\mu\textrm{m}$. The complex which calcined the complex salts at $700^{\circ}$~80$0^{\circ}C$ for 60min. were 0.2~0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$. W-Co($5.92^{\circ}C$) and -Ni(6.95%) powders which reduced the complex oxides with H2d atmo-sphere(flow rate;600cc/min.) at $700^{\circ}$~$800^{\circ}C$ for 60min. were $0.5~0.6\mu\textrm{m}$. The mean grain sizes of WC-Co and WC-Ni composite powders which carburized both complex metals of W-Co and W-Ni at $800^{\circ}C$ for 60min. were $0.5~0.6\mu\textrm{m}$, and take place the coarsening of the grain above $800^{\circ}C$ and the optmium ratio of C3H8 and H2 was 0.2 for the control of the free carbon. The effect of Co contents on the particle sizes decreased from 0.4 to $0.25\mu\textrm{m}$ with increasing the content from 2.0 to 7.6w%. The activation energies on the reductions of oxides and the formations of carbides were as follows ; W-Co : Q = 8.7 kcal/mole, W-Ni : Q = 8.1 kcal/mole, WC-Co pow-der : Q = 17.8 kcal/mole, WC-Ni powder : Q = 16.6 kcal/mole.

A Study on Heat Transfer Characteristics of a Closed Two-Phase Thermosyphon with a Low Tilt Angle (낮은 경사각을 갖는 밀폐형 2상 열사이폰의 열전달 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In lots of application to heat exchanger systems, closed two-phase thermosyphons are tilted from a horizontal. If the tilt angle, especially, is less than 30$^{\circ}$, the operational performances of thermosyphon are highly dependent on tilt angle. The present study was conducted to better understand such operational behaviors as mech-anni는 of phase change, and flow patterns inside a tilted thermosyphon. For experiment, an ethanol thermosyphon with a 35% of fill charge rate was designed and manufactured, using a copper tube with a diameter 19mm and a length 1500mm. Through a series of test, the tilt angle was kept constant at each of 4 different values in the range 10~25deg. and the heat supply to the evaporator was stepwisely increased up to 30㎾/$m^2$. When a steady state was established to the thermosyphon for each step of thermal loads, the wall temperature distribution and vapor temperature at the condenser were measured. The wall temperature distributions demonstrated a formation of dry patch in the top end zone of the evaporator, with a values of temperature 20~4$0^{\circ}C$ higher than the wetted surface for a moderate heat flux q≒20㎾/$m^2$. Inspite of the presence of hot dry patch, however, the mean values of boiling heat transfer coefficient at the evaporator wall were still in a good agreement with those predicted by Rohsenow's formula, which was based on nucleate boiling. For the condenser, the wall temperatures were practically uniform, and the measured values of condensation heat transfer coefficient were 1.7 times higher than the predicted values obtained from Nusselt's film condensation theory on tilted plate. Using those two expressions, a correlation was formulated as a function of heat flux and tilt angle, to determine the total thermal resistance of a tilted thermosyphon. The correlation formula showed a good agreement with the experimental data within 20%.

Ginsenoside Rh2 epigenetically regulates cell-mediated immune pathway to inhibit proliferation of MCF-7 breast cancer cells

  • Background: Ginsenoside Rh2 has been known to enhance the activity of immune cells, as well as to inhibit the growth of tumor cells. Although the repertoire of genes regulated by Rh2 is well-known in many cancer cells, the epigenetic regulation has yet to be determined, especially for comprehensive approaches to detect methylation changes. Methods: The effect of Rh2 on genome-wide DNA methylation changes in breast cancer cells was examined by treating cultured MCF-7 with Rh2. Pyrosequencing analysis was carried out to measure the methylation level of a global methylation marker, LINE1. Genome-wide methylation analysis was carried out to identify epigenetically regulated genes and to elucidate the most prominent signaling pathway affected by Rh2. Apoptosis and proliferation were monitored to examine the cellular effect of Rh2. Results: LINE1 showed induction of hypomethylation at specific CpGs by 1.6-9.1% (p < 0.05). Genome-wide methylation analysis identified the "cell-mediated immune response"-related pathway as the top network. Cell proliferation of MCF-7 was retarded by Rh2 in a dose-dependent manner. Hypermethylated genes such as CASP1, INSL5, and OR52A1 showed downregulation in the Rh2-treated MCF-7, while hypomethylated genes such as CLINT1, ST3GAL4, and C1orf198 showed upregulation. Notably, a higher survival rate was associated with lower expression of INSL5 and OR52A1 in breast cancer patients, while with higher expression of CLINT1. Conclusion: The results indicate that Rh2 induces epigenetic methylation changes in genes involved in immune response and tumorigenesis, thereby contributing to enhanced immunogenicity and inhibiting the growth of cancer cells.

근육 피로도 분석시 사용되는 매개변수들간의 민감도 비교 연구

  • 근전도(EMG:Electromyogram)를 사용하여 국부 근육 피로(Localized Muscle Fatigue)를 정량화으로 분석 하기 위해 널리 이용되고 있는 AR(Autoregressive)모델의 1차 계수, RMS(Root Mean Square), ZCR(Zero Crossing Rate), MPF(Mean Power Frequency), MF(Median Frequency)를 선택하여, 근육이 발휘하는 힘과 시간의 흐름에 따라 근육 피로의 정도를 민감하게 나타내는 매개변수를 규명하였다. 피실험자 10명의 좌우 척추세움근(Erector Spinae Muscle)을 대상으로 등장수축(Sustained Isometric Contraction)조건에서 허리의 신전(Extension)운동을 실시하였다. 이때 발휘해야 하는 힘의 수준은 15%, 30%, 45%, 60%, 75% MVC 로 정하였고 각 수준마다 20초 동안 근전도를 측정하 였다. 데이터 분석은 총20초 구간의 근전도를 0.5초 간격으로 나누어 매개변수들을 각각 구하고 분석을 실시하였다. 시간의 흐름에 대한 피로도 분석 결과, AR 모델의 1차 계수와 MPF가 유의한 차이를 보였으며, 낮은 수준의 %MVC에서는 AR 계수가, 높은 수준에서는 MPF가 민감한 반응 결과를 나타냈다. 그리고 근육이 발휘하는 힘의 정도를 분석하기 위해 주로 사용되고 있는 RMS 보다는 더 AR 계수가 모든 수준에서 뚜렷하게 차이를 보인 것이 확인되었다. 따라서 AR 모델의 1차 계수가 근육의 피로 정도와 힘의 수준을 다른 매개변수에 비해 더욱 민감하게 구별함이 입증되었다. 이러한 결과는 다른 분야에서도 근육 피로를 정량적으로 측정하는데 사용될 수 있을 것으로 생각되며, 개인적 변이도를 고려한 확률 기법을 사용한다면 보다 정확한 근전도 분석이 이루어질 것으로 기대된다.있음을 알 수 있었다. 사료된다.의 결과는 자전거 에르고노미터의 결과가 트레드밀의 결과에 87.60%정도 나타났다.음을 관찰하였다. 특히 vitamin C와 E의 병용투여는 상승적으로 적용하여 간세포손상을 더욱 억제시킴을 알 수 있었다.mance and on TFP(Total Factor Productivity) growth which is a pure measure of firm performance.   • This paper analyses the relationship between regional economic power defined as GRDP per capita and various socioeconomic variables such as fiscal variables(revenue, expenditure, etc.) as well as nonfiscal variables(population, ratio of old population, unemployment rate, dependency ration) using the pooling data of 16 local governments from 1998 to 2012. To put it concretely, following the Granger causality test, regression analysis has been done with the regional economic power being the dependent and variables which have either one or two direction causality being independent variables. And test of cumulative effects has been done with variables showing statistical significance in the regression analysis. Local tax revenues per capita, expenditures of social development per capita and median age have positive effects, while dependency ratio has negative effect on regional economy. And national subsidy per capita, local tax revenues per capita, expenditures of social development per capita and median age all have cumulative effects on regional economy.

Comparison of surface roughness effects upon the attachment of osteoblastic progenitor MC3T3-E1 cells and inflammatory RAW 264.7 cells to a titanium disc

  • The attachment and adhesion of RAW 264.7 and MC3T3-E1 cells to titanium (Ti) discs with various degrees of roughness was investigated. The attachment, adhesion, and proliferation of these cells were evaluated after 4 hr, 24 hr and 7 day incubations. Both RAW 264.7 and MC3T3-E1 cells showed a time-dependant correlation between attachment and adhesion on the surface of the titanium discs. Both types of cells tended to have higher survival rate on these discs as the surface roughness increased. The percentage of adherent inflammatory RAW 264.7 cells was greater than MC3T3-E1 cells at 24 hr, but this was reversed at 7 days in culture. The morphology of osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells at 24 hr, determined using a surface emission microscope (SEM), appeared flattened and spread out while inflammatory RAW 264.7 cells were predominantly spherical in shape. The adhesion of both cell types on the titanium discs was dependant on the levels of fibronectin adsorbed on the disc surface, indicating that serum constituents modulate the efficient adhesion of these cells. Our data indicate that the cellular response to the titanium surface is dependent on the types of cells, surface roughness and serum constituents.

The effects of irradiation on the mRNA expression of type I collagen and alkaline phosphatase in the MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cell line (방사선조사가 MC3T3-E1 조골세포주의 type I collagen과 alkaline phosphatase mRNA 발현에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: To investigate the effects of irradiation on the phenotypic expression of the MC3T3-El osteoblastic cell line, particularly an the expression of type I collagen and alkaline phosphatase mRNA. Materials and Methods: Cells were irradiated with a single dose of 0.5, 1, 2, 4, and 8 Gy at a dose rate of 5.38 Gy/min using a cesium 137 irradiator. The specimens were then harvested and RNA extraction was carried out at 1 and 3 days after irradiation. The extracted RNA strands were reverse-transcribed and the resulting cDNA fragments were amplified by PCR. Results: The irradiated cells demonstrated a dose-dependent increase in type I collagen mRNA expression relative to the control group, with a maximum level of type I collagen mRNA expression occurring at 8 Gy. The degree of type I collagen mRNA expression increased significantly at 1 day after irradiation, but little differences were found between the control group and at the 3rd day. The amount of alkaline phosphatase mRNA expression increased significantly at land 3 days after irradiation in the 1 Gy exposed group compared with the control group. Conclusion: The amount of type I collagen and alkaline phosphatase mRNA expression increased significantly 1 day after irradiation when compared with the control group.

The Nitrite-Scavenging Effects by Component of Green Tea Extracts (녹차 추출물의 아질산염 분해작용)

  • This paper was investigated to elucidate the nitrite-scavenging action as one of biological actions of green tea extracts. Green tea extracts exhibited remarkable nitrite-scavenging action. Among the green tea extracts, steamed green tea showed higher nitrite-scavenging action than roasted green tea. Nitrite-savenging actions of gren tea extracts were hardly influenced until three times extraction with hot water. Furthermore , the nitirte-scavenging action of green tea extracts showed ph dependent , highest at pH 1.2 and lowest at pH 6.0. The nitrite -scavenging rate in sample extracts /amine /nitrite systems exhibited faster than that in amine/nitrite systems. In order to screen the nitirte-scavenging factors, samples extracts were fractionated with methanol. in both samples, methanol-soluble fractions possessed greater nitrite-scavenging action than methanol-insoluble fractions .The nitrite-scavenging action of methanol-soluble fractions increased with proportion to absorbance at 420nm and at 280nm, while that of green tea extracts increased with the contents of total phenols and absorbance at 280nm.

  • Recently, vision-based hand gesture recognition techniques have been developed for assisting elderly and disabled people to control home appliances. Frequently occurred problems which lower the hand gesture recognition rate are due to the inter-person variation and intra-person variation. The recognition difficulty caused by inter-person variation can be handled by using user dependent model and model selection technique. And the recognition difficulty caused by intra-person variation can be handled by using fuzzy logic. In this paper, we propose multivariate fuzzy decision tree learning and classification method for a hand motion recognition system for multiple users. When a user starts to use the system, the most appropriate recognition model is selected and used for the user.
