Dynamic numerical analyses were performed to investigate the response of liquefaction remediation of rammed aggregate piers(RAP) on soft ground under free strain conditions. The safe factors of the soft ground reinforced by RAP during seismic loading of magnitude 6.5 were calculated. The results of simulation showed that factors of safety were affected various area replacement ratios, surcharge loads and depth of RAP systems.
Balancing left/right cardiac output is essential for the automatic control of total artificial hearts(TAH). A fuzzy logic-based control method is presented. We use left atrial pressure(LAP) and right atrial pressure(RAP) as indicators for left/right balancing. The fuzzy controller has four input variables which are measured LAP and RAP and their gradients. Desired variations in left cardiac output(LCO) and right cardiac output(RCO) are calculated to keep LAP and RAP within the Physiological limits. Computer simulations were performed to adjust fuzzy membership functions for variables and verify this control method. Results from simulations showed that LAP and RAP returned to the physiological limits while AoP and PAP stayed within the physiological limits.

Properties of newly developed paper from Red Algae Pulp (RAP) were examined. The paper samples were prepared according tomixing RAP fiber with wood fibers, HwBKP and SwBKP, to form a paper with $60\;g/m^2$ in weight. It was prepared in three to four different levels of refining degree and pressure so that it can reveal different bulk level in order to clearly compare the opacity at equivalent bulk for each furnish compositions. printability of RAP fiber revealed superior effect on print through repression and initial ink absorption. Those properties are expected to improve further if printability improvement effect due to smoothness improvement is added.

This is a basic research for producing hot-mix recycled asphalt mixtures and suggesting methods for solving quality problems, if any. Various mixing methods are introduced to mate aging evenly between old and virgin aggregates and to improve aging conditions. Gel-permeation chromatography(GPC) analysis was performed to evaluate aging of binders coated on coarse aggregates and a matrix separately. Round-shaped aggregates(13m gravel) were used in manufacturing mixtures for analysis of aging levels in recycled mixtures. It was found out that there was significant difference in aging levels between the binder coated on RAP's coarse aggregates and on virgin aggregates in a recycled mixture. The difference in the aging level was reduced by modifying mixing method(RAP and virgin binders were mixed first and then virgin aggregates were introduced). Among A to E mixing methods studied, the D was turned out to be the best.

PURPOSES: This research is to evaluate the mechanical performance of different types of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavement cells prepared for MN/Road field testing section through an extensive experimental analysis of air voids and simple statistical evaluation tools (i.e. hypothesis test). METHODS: An extensive experimental work was performed to measure air voids in 82 asphalt mixture cores (238 samples in total) obtained from nine different types of road cell located in MN/Road testing field. In order to numerically and quantitatively address the differences in air voids among the different test Cells built in MN/Road, a simple statistical test method (i.e. t-test) with 5% significance was used. RESULTS: Similar trends in air voids content were found among the mixtures including conventional HMA, Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) and Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) combined with taconite aggregate this provides support to the use of RAP and WMA technology in the constructions of asphalt pavement. However, in case of acid modified HMA mixtures, significant differences in air void content were observed between on the wheel path and between wheel path location, which implies negative performances in rutting and thermal cracking resistances. Conclusions : It can be concluded that use of RAP and WMA technology in the construction of conventional asphalt pavement and the use of PPA (Poly Phosphoric Acid) in combinations with SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene) in asphalt binder production provide satisfactory performance and, therefore, are highly recommended.
Background: Hemodilution after priming of the cardiopulmonary bypass is known to increase the possibility of bleeding and homologous transfusion in adult cardiac surgery. We investigated the effects of retrograde autologous priming (RAP) to see whether it would decrease postoperative bleeding and homologous transfusion. Material and Method: We retrospectively reviewed 34 patients wpho underwent RAP and 46 patients who did not. Retrograde autologous priming consisted of arterial lire drainage, venous reservoir and oxygenator drainage and venous line drainage. We compared the amount of priming solution and RAP volume, perioperative hematocrit, postoperative bleeding and transfusion requirements in the two groups. Resuit: Mean withdrawal volume in RAP group was 613.5$\pm$160.6 mL and initial priming volume was 1381.9$\pm$37.2 mL. Hemoatocrits ($\%$) in RAP and control groups were 25.0$\pm$3.7 vs 20.9$\pm$3.6 (5 minutes after CPB), 25.9$\pm$3.7 vs 22.5$\pm$3.6 (30 minutes after CPB), 25.9$\pm$3.4 vs 23.8$\pm$2.8 (60 minutes after CPB), 31.9$\pm$3.9 vs 31.5$\pm$4.5 (postoperative 1 hour), 32.4$\pm$4.4 vs 32.1$\pm$4.5 (postoperative 6 hours), 33.4$\pm$5.0 vs 31.7$\pm$5.1 (postoperative 1 day)[repeated measures ANOVA, p < 0.05]. Chest tube drainages (mL) in the two groups were 357.2$\pm$177.1 vs 411.7$\pm$279.5 (postoperative 6 hours), 599.4$\pm$145.6 vs 678.8$\pm$256.4 (postoperative 24 hours)[t-test, p < 0.05]. Homologous transfusion was performed in 7 out of 34 patients in RAP group (20.6$\%$), and 16 out of 46 (34.8$\%$) in control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study suggests that the effects of reducing the priming volume during cardiopulmonary bypass may result in lesser bleeding and homologous transfusion. Retrograde autologous priming would be used to reduce postoperative bleeding and chance of transfusion after adult cardiac surgery.

When producing recycled asphalt mix, it is important that the old binder of reclaimed asphalt pavement(RAP) should be well melted during blending in the mixer. The recycled asphalt mix is produced by instant mixing(IM) of all materials(RAP, virgin asphalt and new aggregates) all together in the mixer. However, in the same recycled mix, the binder around RAP aggregate was found to show higher oxidation level than the binder coated around the virgin aggregate because the old binder of RAP was not rejuvenated properly while instant mixing. The partially-rejuvenated RAP binder is assumed to be a high stiffness point in IM recycled mix. In this study, the stage mixing(SM) method was introduced; blending RAP and virgin asphalt for the first stage, and then mixing all together with hot new aggregates for the second stage. To compare the effect of the two mixing methods on moisture resistance of recycled mixes, a statistical t-test was performed between SM and IM using indirect tensile strength(ITS) and tensile strength ratio(TSR). Three conditioning methods were used; a 16-h freezing and then 24-h submerging, 48-h submerging, and 72-h submerging in 60℃ water. It was found that the TSR(=ITSwet/ITSdry) values of the mixes prepared by SM was clearly higher than the IM mixes, and coefficients of variation of SM mixes were lower than the IM mixes. It was also observed that the ITSWET of SM was significantly different from the IM at α=0.05 level by statistical t-test. The ITSWET of SM mix was reduced less than the IM mix in severer conditioned mixes. Therefore, it was concluded that the stage mixing method was an important blending technique for producing better-quality of recycled asphalt mixes, which would show higher moisture resistance than the recycled mixes produced by conventional instant mixing.
Purpose : This Study was conducted to evaluate clinical characteristic of children with recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) and to be classified by its six subtype in the Oriental Pediatric Text Book and to find out relationship of western classification. Methods : Patients who visited Dong-Eui Oriental Medical hospital from August, 2001 to October, 2002 due to RAP were included. According to questionnaire and history taking, RAP was classified by its six subtype based on Oriental medical theory. Results : 1. Patients with RAP were more internalized, have a close relation with their parents, and have strong desires of success, but social intercourse is low. 2. 76% of Patients have a less desire to eat and 67% of Patients have a diarrhea or constipation. 3. According to questionnaire, first abdominal pain was their $3{\sim}5$ ages most, cause of occurrence was more 'eating cold foods' most, time of AP (abdominal pain) was $1{\sim}2$ hours after eating and no characteristic most, site of AP was the umbilicus most, shape of AP was impotent pain most, cause of reduce pain was abdominal massage and defection most. 4. frequency of RAP's type, AP caused by diet(食積腹痛) is 45.5%, AP caused by cold(寒腹痛) is 29.1%, AP caused by cold in internal organs of deficiency(臟腑虛冷腹痛) is 12.7%, stagnation of qi and stasis of blood(氣滯血瘀腹痛) is 10.9%, AP caused by internal diet and external cold(內食外寒腹痛) is 1.8%. There is no AP caused by parasites(蟲腹痛). 5. During clinical classifications of RAP, cause of occurrence was most important cause of reduce pian, defection practice was helpful for diagnosis, but shape of AP, site of AP was not helpful. 6. With relationship of Oriental classification and western classification, AP caused by diet is similar to dysmotilitylike dyspepsia and irriTable bowel syndrome. AP caused by cold is similar to irriTable bowel syndrome. AP caused by cold in internal organs of deficiency is similar to unspecified dyspepsia. stagnation of qi and stasis of blood and AP caused by internal diet and external cold is not like to western classification. Conclusion : RAP in Childhood is most occurred by food and cold. there is few AP caused by stagnation of qi and stasis of blood and internal diet and external cold. So the study on subclassification and clinical Manifestations of RAP in Childhood is more performed.
Background: Retrograde autologous priming (RAP) is known to be useful in decreasing the need of transfusions in cardiac surgery because it prevents excessive hemodilution due to the crystalloid priming of cardiopulmonary bypass circuit. However, there are also negative side effects in terms of blood conservation. We analyzed the intraoperative blood-conserving effect of RAP and also investigated the efficacy of autotransfusion and ultrafiltration as a supplemental method for RAP. Material and Method: From January 2005 to December 2007, 117 patients who underwent isolated coronary artery bypass operations using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) were enrolled. Mean age was 63.9$\pm$9.1 years (range 36$\sim$83 years) and 34 patients were female. There were 62 patients in the RAP group and 55 patients in he control group. Intraoperative autotransfusion was performed via the arterial line. RAP was done just before initiating CPB using retrograde drainage of the crystalloid priming solution. Both conventional (CUF) and modified (MUF) ultrafiltrations were done during and after CPB, respectively. The transfusion threshold was less than 20% in hematocrit. Result: Autotransfusions were done in 79 patients (67.5%) and the average amount was 142.5$\pm$65.4 mL (range 30$\sim$320 mL). Homologous red blood cell (RBC) transfusion was done in 47 patients (40.2%) and mean amount of transfused RBC was 404.3$\pm$222.6 mL. Risk factors for transfusions were body surface area (OR 0.01, 95% CI 0.00 $\sim$ 0.63, p=0.030) and cardiopulmonary bypass time (OR 1.04, 95% CI 1.01 $\sim$ 1.08, p=0.019). RAP was not effective in terms of the rate of transfusion (34.5% vs 45.2%, p=0.24). However, the amount of transfused RBC was significantly decreased (526.3$\pm$242.3ml vs 321.4$\pm$166.3 mL, p=0.001). Autotransfusion and ultrafiltration revealed additive and cumulative effects decreasing transfusion amount (one; 600.0$\pm$231.0 mL, two; 533.3$\pm$264.6 mL, three; 346.7$\pm$176.7 mL, four; 300.0$\pm$146.1 mL, p=0.002). Conclusion: Even though RAP did not appear to be effective in terms of the number of patients receiving intraoperative RBC transfusions, it could conserve blood in terms of the amount transfused and with the additive effects of autotransfusion and ultrafiltration. If we want to maximize the blood conserving effect of RAP, more aggressive control will be necessary - such as high threshold of transfusion trigger or strict regulation of crystalloid infusion, and so forth.
