DIAGNOSTIC EFFICACY OF MENTAL NERVE SEP(SOMATOSENSORY EVOKED POTENTIALS) FOR THE INJURED INFERIOR ALVEOLAR NERVE (하치조신경 손상시 턱끝신경 체성감각유발전위검사의 진단적 유용성에 관한 연구)

  • Sensory dysfunction following the injury of the inferior alveolar nerve requires objective examination to get a reproducible data and to provide necessary treatment. This study was designed to evaluate if the SEP(somatosensory evoked potentials) of the mental nerve can be used as an objective method for the diagnosis of nerve injury and sensory disturbances. The subjects were nineteen patients ($37.4{\pm}11.3$ years old) who had been suffered from sensory disturbance of the unilateral lower lip and mental region for over 6 months after the inferior alveolar nerve injuries confirmed by the microsurgical explorations. The clinical neurosensory tests as SLTD(static light touch discrimination), MDD(moving direction discrimination), 2PD(two point discrimination), PPN(pin prick nociception) and accompanied pain were preceded to electro-physiologic examinations as SEP. The score of sensory dysfunction (sum score of all sensory tests) ranged from 0 to 8 were compared to the latency differences of the mental nerve SEPs. The correlation between clinical sensory scores and SEPs were tested by Spearman nonparametric rank correlation analysis, the differences in SEP latency by Kruskal-Wallis test and the latency differences according to PPN and accompanied pain by Mann-Whitney U test. This study resulted that the difference of the latencies between normal side and affected side was $2.22{\pm}2.46$ msec and correlated significantly with the neurosensory dysfunction scores (p=0.0001). Conclusively, the somatosensory evoked potentials of the mental nerve can be a useful diagnostic method to evaluate the inferior alveolar nerve injuries and the change of sensory dysfunction to be reproduced as an objective assessment.

The characteristics and treatment results of squamous cell carcinomas of oral tongue (구강설에 발생한 편평상피세포암의 특성과 치료효과)

  • Introduction: The characteristics of oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) and the treatment results were reviewed to determine the appropriate treatment strategies. Materials and Methods: The medical records of 140 patients diagnosed and treated for oral tongue SCC at Yonsei University Health System from January 1995 to December 2004 were reviewed. For statistic analysis, the survival rate was determined using the Kaplan-Meier method with SPSS version 12.0, and the difference in survival rates was evaluated using a log-rank test. Results: The mean age of the patients with oral tongue SCC patients was 55 (19-85 years old). According to the T, N and pathologic stage, the patients were distributed from a higher to a lower incidence of cases, as follows: T2 (46.4%), T1 (37.9%), T4 (8.5%), and T3 (7.1%); N0 (65%), N1 (20.7%), N2 (13.6%), and N3 (0.7%); and stage I (31.4%), stage II(25.7%), stage IV (22.2%), and stage III (20.7%). Local and regional recurrence and distant metastasis was present in 13.6%, 5% and 4.2% of patients, respectively. The five-year survival rate was 72.2%, and the prognostic factors for oral tongue SCC included neck metastasis, pathologic stage of the disease, cell differentiation, treatment modality, neck dissection as part of the treatment plan, and neck node recurrence. Discussion: It is suggested that ipsilateral neck dissection or bilateral neck dissection should be selected as a treatment of tongue SCC patients with advanced stage.

Recommending System of Products based on Data mining Technique (데이터 마이닝 기법을 이용한 상품 추천 시스템)

  • There are many e-showing mall because of revitalization of e-commerce system. It is necessary to recommending system of products that is for saving time and effort of customer. In this paper, we propose the system that is applying classification among data mining techniques to analysis of log data of customer. This log data contains access of user and purchasing of products. The proposed system operates in two phases. The first phase is composed of data filter module and association extraction module among web pages. The second phase is composed of personalization module and rule generation module. Customer can easily know the recommended sites because the proposed system can present rank of the recommended web pages to customer. As a result, the proposed system can efficiently do recommending of products to customer.

  • The management of existing airfield pavement information has currently become difficult and the maintenance cost has increased over time due to the long-term performance. It is needed to develop the method for effective budget allocation and systematic airfield pavement management services. The objectives of this paper are to introduce Micro PAVER, one of the popular pavement management systems, into our management system and customize Micro PAVER based on our environment and pavement management level. This study focused on the analysis on logics and structures of Micro PAVER and customization of important parts in the program using the existing pavement evaluation data and survey method. Customized items selected in this study included the pavement deterioration prediction models, critical PCI, maintenance cost by PCI, maintenance or rehabilitation method and unit cost, and PCI rank.

Effects of Two Different Joint Mobilization Positions on Neck Pain, Function and Treatment Satisfaction in Patient with Acute Mechanical Neck Pain (급성 역학적 경부 통증 환자에서 관절가동술적용 자세가 경부 통증과 기능과 치료만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of the present study was to apply joint mobilization in a sitting position and in a prone position to patients with acute mechanical neck pain and compare the immediate treatment effects in these two positions. METHODS: After the baseline was assessed, 46 patients were randomly assigned to two groups: experimental group I ($n_1=23$) for joint mobilization in the sitting position and experimental group II ($n_2=23$) for joint mobilization in the prone position at the symptomatic cervical level. The patients in both groups received treatment by unilateral posterior-anterior gliding for 30 seconds per trial, 10 trials per session, for a total of 5 minutes, and two trials of 10 active extending motions with distraction per trial. RESULTS: In the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, all the pain and physical function variables were significantly improved after intervention in both groups (p<.05). In the Mann-Whitney U test, which compared the differences before and after the intervention between the two groups, experimental group I showed significant improvement over experimental group II in resting pain (p<.01), satisfaction with the treatment (p=.01), left rotation (p<.01) and CCFE (p<.01). In the analysis of covariance results, experimental group I showed significant improvement over experimental group II in the most painful motion pain (p<.01) and the most painful quadrant motion pain (p<.01). CONCLUSION: These outcomes suggest that joint mobilization should be applied in sitting positions for patients with acute mechanical neck pain that feel pain during sustained positions, extension or rotation.

Polymorphism of XRCC1 Codon 399 and Prognosis of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients After Radiotherapy

  • To assess that the XRCC1 399Gln variant contributes to sensitivity to ionizing radiation treatment and is associated with progression-free and overall survival, one hundred and ninety-five lung cancer patients were recruited at the Asan Medical Center from 2000 to 2003. We determined the genotypes of the XRCC1 genes by PCR-RFLP. Kaplan-Meier survival curves and the log-rank test were used to analyze the effects of genotypes on survival. Hazard ratios, adjusted for age, sex, and other potential confounders, were calculated using the Cox-proportional hazard model. Patients carrying the 399Gln variant allele under radiotherapy only had a shorter progression-free and overall survival than those with the 399Arg homozygote. However, when we analyzed for the effect of the XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism in the combined treatment of surgical resection and radiotherapy, we found that patients with the 399Gln variant allele had a longer progression-free and overall survival. This study shows different associations between the XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism and progression-free or overall survival depending on treatment protocol in patients with NSCLC.

Material and Deterioration Characteristic Analysis for Stone Sculptures in Gyeongbokgung Royal Palace, Seoul (경복궁 석조조형물의 재질 및 손상특성 분석)

  • The stone sculptures in Gyeongbokgung Royal Palace are mainly composed of granite (884 sculptures, 96.7%) and marble (25 sculptures, 2.7%) that originated in several different quarries. Main deterioration forms are crack (24%), break-out (21%), exfoliation (36%), granular disintegration (9%) and blackening (20%). Crack and break-out are dominant contributors to high physical deterioration degree, and blackening is major weathering form of intensive discoloration. The Gyeonghoeru, Geunjeongjeon and Pumgyeseok areas require urgent and high conservation maintenance with short-term periodic monitoring since proportions of 3-grade deterioration were calculated higher than others as 55% for Gyeonghoeru, 29% for Geunjeongjeon, 11% for Pumgyeseok area. The Pumgyeseok (officials' rank stone), especially, needs intervention for protective facility due to its material vulnerability to weathering in outdoor environment.

Development of Strategic Environment Assessment Model in Urban Development Plan - In case of Metropolitan Plan - (도시개발 행정계획의 전략환경평가 모델개발 - 광역도시계획에의 사례적용 -)

  • It is essential to consider strategies, spatial planning, and reflection of sustainability for the creation of sound urban spaces. To this end, there is a need for plans that can secure better sustainability through strategic environmental assessment (SEA) of plans. This study examined the literature and available precedent to develop a SEA model for administrative plans for urban development including metropolitan plans, urban master plans and urban management plans. In the course of development of the model, environmental issues associated with the urban plans were analyzed by classifying them into ten categories, including "spatial planning," "conservation planning," "greenbelt systems," "habitats." and etc. according to their rank. Furthermore, those issues were reflected on the development of environmental evaluation indices for the plans. Overall and detailed environmental indices that can be applied to the administrative plans for urban development including metropolitan plans, urban master plans and urban management plans were devised for five stages: (1) Establishment of development goals and strategy, (2) Analysis of current status and characteristics, (3) Conceptualization of spatial structure, (4) Planning for each department, and (5) Execution and management. Sub plans are more detailed and concrete. Criteria based on the evaluation indices, when performing evaluations on plans based on each environmental assessment index in reference to experts and the literature, were used to forecast their effects, i.e. whether they had a positive, negative, or no effect or relationship, or whether their effects was uncertain. Based on the forecasts, this study then presents means to establish more improvable plans. Furthermore, by synthesis of the effects according to each index and integration of the process, plans were analyzed overall. This study reflects the characteristics of the present time period based on issues in the SEA process and techniques in upper level administrative plans being newly established, and presents them according to the stage of each plan. Furthermore, by forecasting the effect of plans by stage, this study presents proposals for improvement, and in this aspect, can be meaningful in promoting plan improvements through SEA.

Long-term Changes of Physicochemical Water Quality in Lake Youngrang, Korea

  • Physicochemical properties of water quality were analyzed to understand the long-term variations in Lake Youngrang from 1998 to 2015. Nonparametric statistical methods were applied to deduct correlation among water quality parameters and water quality trend. In total observations(N=64), the Secchi depth (SD) transparency showed significant positive correlation with salinity (r=0.458) and highly significant negative correlation with chlorophyll-a (r= -0.649) for p<0.0001 in two-tailed test of Spearman's rank correlation. Significant negative correlations of SD were observed with chemical oxygen demand (COD), total phosphorus (TP) and total nitrogen (TN). These correlation patterns were very similar in rainy (N=25) and non-rainy (N=39) periods too. Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) had significant correlation with COD. Sen's slope test was performed along with Mann-Kendall trend test (significance ${\alpha}=0.05$, two-tailed) to find water quality trend. Positive trends were observed for SD and salinity with Sen's slopes 0.012 and 0.385, respectively (p<0.0001). Negative significant trends were observed for total nitrogen (TN) and Chl-a with Sen's slopes -0.02 (p<0.0001) and -0.346 (p=0.0010), respectively. Temperature, COD and phosphorus components had no trends. Carlson's trophic state index (TSI) for SD, TP and Chl-a were obtained in the ranges of 46~80, 37~82 and 39~82, respectively. Trophic index values suggest that Lake Youngrang was mesoeutrophic to eutrophic and there could be possibility of anoxia during the summer and dominance of blue-green algae. Excess nutrient inputs from external and internal sources were the causes of eutrophication in this lake. The findings of this study would be helpful to recognize water quality variables to manage the water body.

A Study on the State of Fashion Marketing Using the SNS -Focused on the Facebook- (SNS를 이용한 패션업체의 마케팅 실태 연구 -Facebook을 중심으로-)

  • Rapid evolutions in recent years related to IT (information technology) which has been exceedingly developed make it possible to utilize its application in broad fields as providing a convenient way to gather and to reuse information. As smart phones have been sporadic nowadays which boost increase of SNS in real-time making more dynamic, it is becoming more worthful as a marketing tool in the field of fashion area. In this study, we have explored some case studies in which they are actively using Facebook. We have selected 10 fashion brands to compare their activities in boards containing 'notice', 'like this', 'people talking about this' and 'event'. We also conduct the correlation analysis between the indicators above, using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. As a consequence, we can confirm that 'notice' highly correlates with 'like this', but we cannot find any other correlations between the other factors. As a reasult, marketing in Facebook is more efficient communication way between the companies and customers than using other current mass media, it shows that SNS in fashion marketing could be an innovative solution to overcome current limitations caused probably by lack of communications.
