  • This paper describes a mathematical model and its utilization algorithm for calculating the accurate target position on the ellipsoidal earth surface which corresponds to a range-azimuth coordinates of unprocessed synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. A geometrical model which is a set of coordinate transformations is described. The side-looking directional angle (off-nadir angle) is determined in an iterative fashion by using the model and the accurate slant range which is calculated from the range sampling timing of the instrument. The algorithm can be applied not only for the geolocation of SAR images but also for the high quality SAR image generation by calculating accurate Doppler parameters.

  • In High Dynamic Range (HDR) image processing, tone mapping is the process to compress an input image into a Low Dynamic Range (LDR) image. In most cases, the reason that detail preservation is prior to take over tone mapping is that the dynamic range is significantly different between input and output images. In the case of iCAM06, details are separated by using a bilateral filter, however, it causes noise amplification at the dim surround region. Thus, we suggest that the detail signal, which is separated from the bilateral filter, is combined with the base signal after an adaptive Kalman filter is applied according to the local standard deviation. We confirmed that the proposed method enhances the HDR images quality by checking the noise reduction in a dim surround region.

  • A robust watermarking algorithm is proposed for 3D mesh models. Watermark is inserted into the 2D image which is extracted from the target 3D model. Each Pixel value of the extracted 2D image represents a distance from the predefined reference points to the face of the given 3D model. This extracted image is defined as “range image” in this paper. Watermark is embedded into the range image. Then, watermarked 3D mesh is obtained by modifying vertices using the watermarked range Image. In extraction procedure, the original model is needed. After registration between the original and the watermarked models, two range images are extracted from each 3D model. From these images. embedded watermark is extracted. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is robust against the attacks such as rotation, translation, uniform scaling, mesh simplification, AWGN and quantization of vertex coordinates.

  • Real time fractal coding for successive QCIF 144*176 luminance images has been implemented on a 50MHz IBM 486 personal computer. To satisfy the frame encoding speed and data compression ratio, following algorithms are adopted. In order to minimize encoding time, extension SAS being not searching of domain blocks is used. for reducing the bits per pixel, conventioal 4*4 range block is extended to 8*8 range block. and range block extension decrease quality of decoded image. For improvement quality of decoded image, the paper apply quad-tree partition mothod. In order to divide **8 range block, self-simiarity is compared 8*8 range block with spatial contractive transformed 8*8 domain block. According to self-simiarity, the block is partitioned and owing to block partition, increased encoding time is minimized. According to self-simiarity of 8*8 range block and spatial contractive transformed 8*8 domain block, number of fractal factor is varied. Simultaneously with minimizing the decrement of decoded image's quality, transmittion rate and encoding time is shorted. The results enable us to process the real-time fractal coding. For the claire test image, the average PSNR was 32.4dB, 0.12 bit rates and 33ms coding time per frame.

  • The digital images contain a significant amount of redundancy and require a large amount of data for their storage and transmission. Therefore, the image compression is necessary to treat digital images efficiently. The goal of image compression is to reduce the number of bits required for their representation. The image compression can reduce the size of image data using contractive mapping of original image. Among the compression methods, the mapping is affine transformation to find the block(called range block) which is the most similar to the original image. In this paper, we applied the neural network(SOM) in encoding. In order to improve the performance of image compression, we intend to reduce the similarities and unnecesaries comparing with the originals in the codebook. In standard image coding, the affine transform is performed with eight isometries that used to approximate domain blocks to range blocks.

  • It is needed many images with different exposure to acquire high dynamic range (HDR) image of a scene using digital still camera. This paper proposed to acquire HDR image with small error using reduced number of image. Proposed method takes two pictures with different exposure and estimates dynamic range of scene using information two images, and takes three pictures with calculated proper exposure to acquire HDR image.

  • This thesis deals with range finding using one camera and laser pointer. Range finding will be used further recognition of the image, that is, range image which allows further segmentation of the scene. In the first step, camera modeling is performed by camera calibration which executes least square fit. Least square fit uses the method of sigular value decomposition. And perspective transform of camera is obtained. Lastly range finding is performed by triangulation principle. The result of this algorithm are displayed.

  • Conventional method for fractal image decoding requires high-degree computational complexity in decoding propocess, because of iterated contractive transformations applied to whole range blocks. In this paper, we propose a fast decoding algorithm of fractal image using data depence in order to reduce computational complexity for iterated contractive transformations. Range of reconstruction image is divided into a region referenced with domain, called referenced range, and a region without reference to domain, called unreferenced range. The referenced range is converged with iterated contractive transformations, and the unreferenced range can be decoded by convergence of the referenced range. Thus the unreferenced range is called data dependence region. We show that the data dependence region can be deconded by one transformation when the referenced range is converged. Consequently, the proposed method reduces computational complexity in decoding process by executing iterated contractive transformations for the referenced range only.

  • The Image sensor of digital still camera has a limited dynamic range. In high dynamic range scenes, a picture often turns out to be underexposed or overexposed. Retinex algorithm based on the theory of the human visual perception is known to be effective contrast enhancement technique. However, it happens the unbalanced contrast enhancement which is the global contrast increased, and the local contrast decreased in the high dynamic range scenes. In this paper, to enhance the both global and local contrast, we propose the weight mapping retinex algorithm. Weight map is composed of the edge and exposure data which are extracted in the each retinex image, and merged with the retinex images in the fusion processing. According to the output picture comparing and numerical analysis, the proposed algorithm gives the better output image with the increased global and local contrast.
