  • In April 1, 2004, age of high-speed railway was opened to korea railroad. The railroad is a means of large transportation which has many talents such as a safety and a regularity. That is a results from various confidential performance tests and evaluations of the system. The railroad system consist of various subsystems - vehicle, power supply, signal, communications, track structures, operations, etc. Among them, as an item of safety evaluation there is a measurement of wheel/rail farce, so called a measurement of derailment coefficient. This is a very important item because a derailment of a train will bring about a big accident. Especially it is more important in high speed rail of which operation speed is over two times as fast as existing rail. In this paper, examined speed elevation possibility use the korean style high speed railway vehicle for reduce the running time of high-speed railway between high speed line and conventional line.

Development of an Imaging Based Gang Protection System

  • During maintenance or construction works in or at the tracks of railways, high risks for passengers and railway staff, especially for the workers on the construction site exist. The high risks result out of the movement of rail vehicles, like trains or construction vehicles, which must be faced by using any available technical and operational technologies for securing them against the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the level of protection continuously and to identify new and innovative methods and technologies for the protection of the gang (construction worker, machines and material). Especially on construction sites at line sections with two or more parallel tracks but also with single tracks, there are still a lot of incidents and accidents mostly with seriously injured persons or fatalities. These were mainly gang members that breach the railway-loading gage. By using proper warning or protection systems, the avoidance of such accidents must be achieved. The latest developments. in gang protection systems concern on the one hand fixed barriers in the middle between the construction site and the operated track and on the other hand construction vehicles equipped with automatic warning systems. The disadvantage of such protection methods is that the gang can be warned against an approaching train but a monitoring of the gang members cannot be performed. Only one part of a potential dangerous situation will be detected. If the gang members will overhear the acoustic warning signal of the security staff and the workers will not leave the danger zone in the track, the driver of the approaching train had no chance to react to the dangerous situation. An accident is often inevitable. While the detection of acoustic warning signals by the gang members working on a construction site is very difficult, the acoustical planning of an automatic warning system has to be designed for an acoustic short range level of one meter besides the construction vehicle. The decision about the use of today's technical warning system (fixed systems, automatic warning systems, etc.) must be geared to the technical feasibility and the level of safety which is needed. Criteria for decision guidance to block a track should be developed by danger estimation and economical variables. To realize the actual jurisdiction and to minimize the hazards of railway operations by the use of construction vehicles near the tracks further developments are needed. This means, that the warning systems have to be enhanced to systems for protection, which monitor the realization of the warning signal as a precondition for giving a movement authority to a train. This method can protect against accidents caused by predictable wrongdoing. The actual state of the art technique of using a collective warning combined with additional security staff is no longer acceptable. Therefore, the Institute of Transportation System of the German Aerospace Center in Braunschweig (Germany) will develop a gang warning and protection system based upon imaging methods, with optical sensors such as video in visible and invisible ranges, radar, laser, and other. The advantage of such a system based on the possibility to monitor both the gang itself and the railway-loading gauge either of the parallel track or of the same track still in use. By monitoring both situations, the system will be able to generate a warning message for the approaching train, that there are obstacles in the track, so that the train can be stopped to prevent an accident. And also the gang workers will be warned, while they breach their area.

  • Depending on the operating characteristics, track circuit is installed for the purpose of control directly or indirectly of the signal device, point switch machine and other security device. These are mainly used for train detection, transmission of information, broken train detection and transmission of return current. Especially, the return current is related to signal system, power system and catenary line, and track circuit systems. It is one of the most important component shall be dealt for the safety of track side staff and for the protection of railway-related electrical system according to electrification. Therefore, an accurate analysis of the return current is needed to prevent the return current unbalance and the system induced disorder and failure due to an over current condition. Also, if the malfunction occurred by the return current harmonics, it can cause problems including train operation interruption. In this paper, we presented measurement and analysis method at return current and it's harmonics by train operation. By the test criteria, we evaluated for safety. Hereafter, it is expected to contribute to the field associated with it.

  • We have studied on the possibility of precise positioning using hybrid Track Circuit system. Hybrid Track Circuit uses RFID which replaces UHF. Hybrid Track Circuit is a part of next generation railroad signal system which is available to communicate with a railway on board system based on a realtime operating system. If applicate on a current hand operating subway, phenomenon caused by driver's mistake such as passing a stop without stopping or mismatch error between PSD and train door should be prevented.

  • The railway developed countries in Europe, Japan such as ERTMS Regional, FFB, COMBAT, it is the stage of development or testing the train control system for the signal system of branch interval of low density. Similar to the signal system used by the mainline and branch sections of low density domestic portions not suitable in terms of maintenance operational efficiency in accordance with the installation and operation in many cases. Therefore these low-density branch railway lines required that oriented train control system of wireless communication to improve the operation efficiency and line side equipment controlled on board the train. In this paper, We was published a route on setting is the operation of the new on-board oriented train control system for controlling a line converter of the train so that it is possible to improve the operational efficiency of the branch of the low density.

  • This study proposes the analysis and evaluation method of time series ultrasonic signal using the phase space-frequency domain. Features extracted from time series signal analyze quantitatively characteristics of weld defects. For this purpose, analysis objectives in this study are features of time domain and frequency domain. Trajectory changes in the attractor indicated a substantial difference in fractal characteristics resulting from distance shifts such as parts of head and flange even though the types of defects are identified. These differences in characteristics of weld defects enables the evaluation of unique characteristics of defects in the weld zone. In quantitative fractal feature extraction, feature values of 3.848 in the case of part of head(crack) and 4.102 in the case of part of web(side hole) and 3.711 in the case of part of flange(crack) were proposed on the basis of fractal dimension. Proposed phase space-frequency domain method in this study can integrity evaluation for defect signals of rail weld zone such as side hole and crack.

Intelligent IIR Filter based Multiple-Channel ANC Systems (지능형 IIR 필터 기반 다중 채널 ANC 시스템)

  • This paper proposes a novel active noise control (ANC) approach that uses an IIR filter and neural network techniques to effectively reduce interior noise. We construct a multiple-channel IIR filter module which is a linearly augmented framework with a generic IIR model to generate a primary control signal. A three-layer perceptron neural network is employed for establishing a secondary-path model to represent air channels among noise fields. Since the IIR module and neural network are connected in series, the output of an IIR filter is transferred forward to the neural model to generate a final ANC signal. A gradient descent optimization based learning algorithm is analytically derived for the optimal selection of the ANC parameter vectors. Moreover, re-estimation of partial parameter vectors in the ANC system is proposed for online learning. Lastly, we present the results of a numerical study to test our ANC methodology with realistic interior noise measurement obtained from Korean railway trains.

  • In relay networks, relay nodes amplify or demodulate/remodulate the received signal from the transmitter, and transmit that signal to the receiver. The received signals from several relays are combined and used for demodulation at the receiver, which enhances the performance of the overall system. Partially differential modulation scheme which uses coherent modulation at the relay and non-coherent modulation scheme at the receiver is adopted for modulation scheme. We analyze the performance of systems depending on various energy allocations of source and relays given the total energy in relay networks.

  • In this study, Urban maglev is applied to inductive-loop speed and position detection system for the top-level classification system for the entire system, and performed functional analysis On-board signal equipment, Wayside-signal equipment divided by the reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety through analysis of the proposed formula. RDB and by applying a system service for each device was calculated to availability, safety analysis. The PHA, FMEA, HAZOP over the Top Event of the FTA is performed by presenting the results. This also shows approach methods and relative activities for project to accomplish and ensure the system requirements.

  • Iron fillings which were accumulated around the rail was often the cause of abnormal signal in case of signaling equipment using rail as transmission line. Iron fillings were generated on curved section of railroad due to the friction between rail and wheel, and metro line company urged to find the way to remove these iron fillings, because these were often the cause of abnormal signal. Magnetic device for trapping iron fillings around concrete slab tracks is introduced. The characteristics of magnetic device were analyzed using basic design and numerical analysis method. Magnetic device for trapping iron fillings were examined for application to the train which were operating in commercial line.
