  • Recently, the cooperation between railway operators has been increased to maximize the efficiency of Asian railway network and international tourists, especially tourists to Asian region grow rapidly. But the cooperation in the rail tourism and leisure field has not yet been promoted. Therefore, this study suggests the development strategy of Asian Rail Pass like Eurail and InetRail Pass. It discusses mainly three Northeast Asian countries, Korea, China and Japan, which are very important area as the third world trade market and high rate of personal exchange. A joint research has to be conducted to feel out the practicability and profitability for the development of Asian Rail Pass. This study will publicize the necessity of Rail Pass in Asia.

  • According to opening Seoul-Busan high speed rail line in 2004, we are studying to offer speedily for the parcel service of high speed rail-combined transport as it does, tender the quality freight services within a one and the same high speed train formation. Therefore, we reviewed for various types of HSR-combined transport and suggested to application methods in Korean high speed rail line. Through these kinds of approaches, we are able to expect the fulfillment of customer needs for high speed rail market segments, the profit maximization of future railway operating companies, and enhancement for cost-effective rail network operation of the mixed traffic on infrastructure cost-reduction in national logistics.

  • The last decades railroad transport has lost market share to cars, trucks and airplanes. Rail companies could not compete in flexibility, speed, cost and quality. The new technology developments of rail transport are focused on high speed. But not all technology is easily transferable from one society to another, if for no other reasons than those attributable to differences in economic, demographic, and geographic factors. This case study is focused on the technological transfer process and items of Korea's high speed rail system and also compares with the Japanese Shinkansen and German ICE.

  • This primary study describes the strategies for expanding the railway market to overseas. Therefore, I mainly reviewed and analysed the report of KRRI. Hereafter, I referred to the world railway market analysis, and benchmarked about Japan, France and Germany for high speed rail system of their export strategies to the world. After than, I suggested some measures for expanding strategies through analysing the problems. According to opening the KTX from Seoul to Busan, we have to think what the next step is. Like other countries of developing the high speed rail system, we have to try to export some kinds of system for further technology and industry development.

  • Recently, the demands of the large scale machine tools gradually increase to machine the large parts, such as large scale crankshaft, yaw and pitch bearings for the wind power generator and the vehicle or aircraft components. But the high technology is necessary in order to develop the huge machine tools. Furthermore, the global market of it has been monopolized by a few companies. So, we need to develop the large scale machine tools and study its core technology to rush into the increasing market. In this study, we carried out the researches for the important core technology of a multi-tasking, machine tool; a large scale 5-axis machine tool of gantry type for multi-task machining. This study is focused on the design of large size gantry type multi-axis machine. In the case of large size of machine the cross rail deflection in the X-axis is significant. To reduce the deflection due to the eccentric spindle head, a special hollow type design in the cross rail with outside ram is adapted in this study. Also, the Zig-Zag motion in the Y-axis is inevitable with the gantry geometry, which is by the un-balancing, different motion at the left and the right columns moving. We tried to reduce the influence of Zig-Zag motion using FEM with different loading conditions at the left and the right side column.

  • To solve the metropolitan traffic problem, it is urgently needed to introduce new transportation system in Korea. The Light Rail Transit(LRT) can offer passenger capacity in the 5,000 to 20,000 per hour range. The LRT offers a fast, frequent and comfortable service to passenger, with service intervals of S minutes or less at peak times. This frequent and convenient service should give confidence to Koreans as a good riders. Now, it's time to introduce this LRT into Korea. Chonju will be the first city with LRT in Korea.

  • The Korean government, as of last year, is attempting to introduce a competitive system in the rail-market. However there are some pertinent issues which need to be addressed in order to select the best possible organization for optimum railway traffic control. As there are no standard guidelines in selecting an agency, objective evaluation factors need to be properly applied to ensure the best possible decision is made. Through literature review and various interviews with experts, appropriate criteria were selected to evaluate the suitability of each potential operator. As generally mentioned, both safety and efficiency play vital roles in the selection process but in addition, there are other factors such as security and fairness, which also need to be considered. The individual weight of these factors were calculated by the AHP, in which three groups of experts were interviewed to acquire their expertise. According to the results, as a potential operator, the score of a railway operating company and the management cooperation of railway is 2.75 and 3.85, respectively. In the future, in preparation towards becoming a competitive rail-market, this research is expected to assist in choosing the best party to control the rail traffic system.
