  • The genus Callochiton Gray, 1847 is small to medium sized chiton (up to $55{\times}36mm$ in size) and includes approximately 30 species worldwide, most of which are found on hard substrata in subtidal zone. To date, only three species of Callochiton Gray, 1847 have been reported in Japan. In this study, we found C. foveolatus(Is. Taki, 1938) as first record of the family Callochitonidae Plate, 1901 in Korea and its morphological features were described and compared with other northwestern Pacific species. In addition, the partial fragment of mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I sequences of C. foveolatus was determined as DNA barcoding record and compared with other congeneric species.

  • Until now, five species (Meghimatium bilineatum, M. fruhstorferi, Limax flavus, L. marginatus, Deroceras reticulatum) in three genera of families Philomycidae and Limacidae have been reported in Korea. Philomycidae is a family of air-breathing land snails. Meghimatium hongdoensis sp. nov. is described based on its middle size (60-80 mm in body length), its body coloration (dark-red yellow), no dorsal with streaks, its genitalia, and 16rDNA sequence analysis. Specimens of this new species were collected from Hongdo island, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, Korea. This species is only known from the type locality at Hongdo to date. It could be found in high-humidity sites. Meghimatium uniforme (Laidlaw 1937) was the first one reported in Korea. It was also collected from Gageodo island, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, Korea. In this study, morphological characteristics including their radula and genital structures of these two species were described. Preliminary results of mitochondrial 16S rDNA sequencing and phylogenetic analyses indicated that these species belonged to the Korean clade.

  • Acanthochitonidae Pilsbry, 1893 is one of the chiton families characterized by 9 pairs of sutural tufts on a well-expanded girdle that overgrows plates. It is found in intertidal and subtidal zones worldwide. Of its eight genera, only two have been previously reported in South Korea: Acanthochitona Gray, 1821 and Notoplax H. Adams, 1862. Here we report Leptoplax doederleini (Thiele, 1909) as the first record of the genus Leptoplax in South Korea and describe and compare its morphological features with N. kaasi Hong, Dell'Angelo and Van Belle, 1990. In addition, we provide the partial sequence of the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene as a DNA barcode sequence record.

  • The genus Dendrodoris Ehrenberg, 1831 includes about 46 valid species worldwide, and is found in relatively shallow waters in the Indo-Pacific, Atlantic, and Australian regions. To date, five Dendrodoris species have been reported from Korea. In this study, we report D. guttata (Odhner, 1917) collected from Jeju Island. Morphology is distinguished from other Dendrodoris species by the shape of the black spots on the dorsal mantle and coloration of the gills. We determined mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (cox1) partial sequences and combined them with publically available sequences of closely related congeneric species to examine its phylogenetic position among Dendrodoris species.

  • Morphological characters of inflorescence, spikelet, rachilla, glume, lemma and palea about 17 taxa of Korean Poa L. were investigated to evaluate their taxonomic significances. The bulbil present or not, inflorescence shape, callus shape of lemma and surface shape of palea were thought to be the subgenus characters. The keels shapes of palea, the number of lower glume, lateral nerve shape of lemma were thought to be the section characters. The number of floret, rachilla present or not, the number of lower glume, nerve shape of glume, surface shape of lemma were thought to be the species characters. Consequently, 17 taxa of the Korean Poa L. is classified into 3 subgenus (Ochlopoa, Stenopoa, Stenopoa), 7 section(Arenariae, Ochlopoa, Homalopoa, Poa, Pandemos, Tichopoa, Stenopoa). 6 taxa, P. ullungdoensis, P. takeshimana and P. matsumurae, P. nipponica, P. radula, P. viridula, not included in the existing classification system, were suggested to their taxonomic category in infragenic rank, and P. nemoralis, had been included in section Stenopoa of subgenus Stenopoa, was proposed to move to section Poa of subgenus Poa. P. ullungdoensis, reported as new species in 1955, was grasped its taxonomic identity.

  • These studies were conducted to compare the radulae of six species (Nordotis madaka, N. gigantea, N. discus discus, N. discus hannai, Sulculus diversicolor diversicolor, and S. diversicolor supertexta) of the family Haliotidae in Korea using the scanning electron microscope. As a result, teeth of all species has asymmetry rhipidoglossate form and basic tooth formula of six Haliotids was >50-5-1-5-50< (one central tooth, five lateral teeth, and over the 50 marginal teeth on each side). Therefore it is difficult that all of the species can be detected sharply the difference of interspecies by comparisons of radulae.

  • Three species belonging to the genus Trapania Pruvot-Fol, 1931 are redescribed from Korea in this paper: Trapania euryeia Gosliner & Fahey, 2008, T. japonica (Baba, 1935), and T. toddi Rudman, 1987. Among these species, T. japonica is newly added to Korean fauna. The genus Trapania is characterized by a pair of extra-rhinophoral appendages on each side of the head, tentacular foot corners, a pair of extra-branchial appendages present around the gill, radula formula N×1.0.1. and consists of denticulated teeth, triaulic reproductive system, and minute spines on the armed penis. Herein, synonyms of the genus Trapania are summarized through a detailed literature review and the diagnostic characters of the genus Trapania are provided. Three species of the genus Trapania from Korea are distinguished from each other based on the color of extra-rhinoporal appendages and extra-branchial appendages, ground color, and distribution range of the brown markings on the dorsal surface. A taxonomic key to the genus Trapania in Korea is provided. In addition, the morphological characteristics of three trapanian nudibranchs in Korea are described and detailed photos of living animal are provided.
