We have analyzed the frequency sharing in the range of 71-275 GHz, which was adopted as a main topic of the WARC-2000 at the previous conference WARC-97. Though the technology of the active services has not been fully developed in this frequncy range, the heavy usage of this technology is expected in foreseeable future. To protect the passive services from spurious and out-of-band emissions of active services, realignment of the spectrum between 71 GHz and 275 GHz is strongly required. In addition, some effort should be made to allocate special bands for the radio astronomy service.
Effects of cloud rotation 011 the profiles of CO J=$1{\rightarrow}0$ lines arc investigated by theoretically general ing line profiles under physical conditions similar to t he ones in large globules. The synthesized profiles are presented and their characteristics are discussed. It is found that when the Doppler shift of the observed CO lines is interpreted as the rotation velocity, the optically thin $^{13}CO$ lines underestimate the rotation velocity by up to 10 percents, while the self-reversed optically thick $^{12}CO$ lines overestimate the velocity up to 20 percents. The optically thin line is shown to be of use in probing the distribution of rotation velocity in dark globules.
Radio astronomy, on its part, requires 'quiet zones' to be able to receive incoming cosmic signals unaffected by interference to enable astronomers and others learn about universe. The agenda item 1.16 of WRC-2000 contains a number of issues relevant for radio astronomy, but some of them are more important than others. The preparations for WRC-2000 have reached a close-to-final stages, with a number of proposals to this agenda item submitted to the ITU by many countries and groups of countries, like APT, CEPT and CITEL. There is no clear preference to anyone of these proposals since their differences are only minor. However, several points remain to be solved in the APT and CITEL. Fortunately, the preparation went very well, and consensus was reached on allocations above 71 GHz and three resolutions. The radio astronomy has obtained about 100 GHz of new spectrum allocations in bands above 71 GHz. In addition, a new resolution was approved by plenary meeting of WRC-2000. It deals with the consideration by a future WRC of sharing and compatibility issues between passive and active services in adjacent bands particularly with the space services (downlinks) into radio astronomy above 71 GHz. Therefore, in future, there should be a need for studies to be made to determine if and under what conditions sharing is possible, given that modifications were made on the basis of requirements known now and that little was known of requirements and implementation plans for active services in bands above 71 GHz.

It has been known that there is "dark gas" invisible either in 21-cm HI or 2.6-mm CO emission which are general tracers of atomic and molecular gas, respectively. Many researchers consider that the dark gas is "Dark Molecular Gas (DMG)" composed of CO-free $H_2$ in the intermediate zone between atomic and full-fledged molecular gas and that HCO+ and OH molecules are good tracers of the DMG since they can form in much lower $H_2$ column densities where CO does not. We have carried out HCO+ J=1-0 absorption observations toward nine bright extragalactic radio continuum sources using the KVN 21-m telescopes as single dishes. We detected HCO+ absorption lines toward two sources. We derive HCO+ and $H_2$ column densities or their limits, and discuss the implications of our results.
We observed a total of 14 Mira variables as well as 4 late type variable stars for their SiO ${\nu}= 1$, J = 2 - 1 maser lines from April 1989 to November 1990 with the 13.7 m radio telescope at Daeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. The maser intensity variations were the prime objective of the observations which well covered the periods of the variations. The origion of the variations were studied by comparing wi th those previousely measured in optical and infrared(IR) wavelengths and we confirmed that the intensity variations were in good correlation with those in V magnitude and IR intensity as previousely found in former investigators in general. However, for a few sources, we could find the missing maxima. The intensities themselves also were in good correlation with SiO ${\nu}\;=\;1$, J = 1 - 0 maser intensities observed in Yebes as expected. The good correlations indicate that the pumping source of the SiO maser is likely to be the IR emission in the masing regions and the "missing maxima" that are apparent in two particular sources are considered to relate wi th the strength of shocks arising from the eruptive mass-loss from central stars.

Impedance or admittance inverter is a conceptual 2-port device frequently used in microwave filter design. In this paper, the equivalent circuit using inverter for general loss less 2-port circuit is presented. Our equivalent circuit can be directly and easily represented with z- or y-parameters compared with the conventional methods. Based on the representation, the derived results for various coupled lines such as parallel coupled line and anti-parallel coupled lines are compared ours. In addition, the results of other workers for improvement of the distortion in frequency response of microstrip coupled line filter are derived using our representation and compared. The proposed equivalent circuit shows the difference with conventional equivalent circuit so the conventional design method can not be applied to parallel coupled line filter with our representation. So in this paper the novel design method is proposed and we showed the method yields more accurate design results.

This paper examines the sampling and jitter specifications and considerations for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) software receivers. Software radio (SWR) technologies are being used in the implementation of communication receivers in general and GNSS receivers in particular. With the advent of new GPS signals, and a range of new Galileo and GLONASS signals soon becoming available, GNSS is an application where SWR and software-defined radio (SDR) are likely to have an impact. The sampling process is critical for SWR receivers, where it occurs as close to the antenna as possible. One way to achieve this is by BandPass Sampling (BPS), which is an undersampling technique that exploits aliasing to perform downconversion. BPS enables removal of the IF stage in the radio receiver. The sampling frequency is a very important factor since it influences both receiver performance and implementation efficiency. However, the design of BPS can result in degradation of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) due to the out-of-band noise being aliased. Important to the specification of both the ADC and its clocking Phase- Locked Loop (PLL) is jitter. Contributing to the system jitter are the aperture jitter of the sample-and-hold switch at the input of ADC and the sampling-clock jitter. Aperture jitter effects have usually been modeled as additive noise, based on a sinusoidal input signal, and limits the achievable Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). Jitter in the sampled signal has several sources: phase noise in the Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) within the sampling PLL, jitter introduced by variations in the period of the frequency divider used in the sampling PLL and cross-talk from the lock line running parallel to signal lines. Jitter in the sampling process directly acts to degrade the noise floor and selectivity of receiver. Choosing an appropriate VCO for a SWR system is not as simple as finding one with right oscillator frequency. Similarly, it is important to specify the right jitter performance for the ADC. In this paper, the allowable sampling frequencies are calculated and analyzed for the multiple frequency BPS software radio GNSS receivers. The SNR degradation due to jitter in a BPSK system is calculated and required jitter standard deviation allowable for each GNSS band of interest is evaluated. Furthermore, in this paper we have investigated the sources of jitter and a basic jitter budget is calculated that could assist in the design of multiple frequency SWR GNSS receivers. We examine different ADCs and PLLs available in the market and compare known performance with the calculated budget. The results obtained are therefore directly applicable to SWR GNSS receiver design.
In this paper, we propose a simple algorithm to calculate the number of passing cars at night by using an image processing sensor for digital black and white images with 256 tone levels. To recognize cars, we capture their head lamps. The reflection of the head lamps is one of the most troublesome factors in recognizing cars. The main problem in this paper is how to recognize cars under the influence of the reflection of the head lamps especially in rainy days. In general, the image of a head lamp is nearly circular and the reflection is long and narrow. On the difference of these forms, we can exclude the reflection in our proposed algorithms For real-time operation and simple calculation, we recognize the existence of cars using fifteen lines with 256 tone levels. In the experimental application on a road, the recognition rate of a real-time operation is more than 90%. Moreover, we will also explain briefly how to recognize passing cars for 24 hours.

We have investigated the properties of the high-latitude cloud MBM 7 using the 3 mm transitions of CO, CS, HCN, $HCO^+,\;C_3H_2,\;N_2H^+$, and SiO. The molecular component of MBM 7 shows a very clumpy structure with a size of $\le$0.5 pc, elongated along the northwest-southeast direction, perpendicularly to an extended HI component, which could be resulted from shock formation. We have derived physical properties for two molecular cores in the central region. Their sizes are 0.1-0.3 pc and masses 1-2 M$\bigodot$ having an average volume density $\~2{\times}10^3 cm^{-3}$ at the peak of molecular emission. We have tested the stability of the cores using the full version of the virial theorem and found that the cores are stabilized with ambient medium, and they are expected not to be dissipated easily without external perturbations. Therefore MBM 7 does not seem to be a site for new star formation. The molecular abundances in the densest core appear to be much less (by about one order of magnitude) than the 'general' dark cloud values. If the depletions of heavy elements are not significant in the HLCs compared with those in typical dark clouds, our results may suggest different chemical evolutionary stages or different chemical environments of the HLCs compared with dense dark clouds in the Galactic plane.
