To evaluate the position accuracy of the MLC. This study analyzed the variations of the dosimetric leaf gap(DLG) and MLC transmission factor to reflect the location of the MLC leaves according to the dose rate variation for dynamic IMRT. We used the 6 MV and 10 MV X-ray beams from linear accelerator with a Millennium 120 MLC system. We measured the variation of DLG and MLC transmission factor at depth of 10 cm for the water phantom by varying the dose rate to 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 MU/min using the CC13 and FC-65G chambers. For 6 MV X-ray beam, a result of measuring based on a dose rate 400 MU/min by varying the dose rate to 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 MU/min of the difference rate was respectively -2.59, -1.89, 0.00, -0.58, -2.89%. For 10 MV X-ray beam, the difference rate was respectively ?2.52, -1.69, 0.00, +1.28, -1.98%. The difference rate of MLC transmission factor was in the range of about ${\pm}1%$ of the measured values at the two types of energy and all of the dose rates. This study evaluated the variation of DLG and MLC transmission factor for the dose rate variation for dynamic IMRT. The difference of the MLC transmission factor according to the dose rate variation is negligible, but, the difference of the DLG was found to be large. Therefore, when randomly changing the dose rate dynamic IMRT, it may significantly affect the dose delivered to the tumor. Unless you change the dose rate during dynamic IMRT, it is thought that is to be the more accurate radiation therapy.
In this study, physical properties of normal concrete, magnetite concrete, EAF concrete, and EAF concrete with added iron powder were evaluated and a feasibility of radiation shielding is also evaluated through irradiation tests against X-rays and gamma-rays. While the unit weight of EAF concrete (3.21 t/㎥) appeared lower than that of magnetite concrete (3.50 t/㎥), the results in compressive strength of EAF concrete were greater than those in magnetite and normal concrete. While the radiation transmission rate of normal concrete reaches 26.0% in the X-ray irradiation test, only 6.0% and 9.0% of transmission rate were observed in magnetite concrete and linear relationship with unit volume weight and radiation shielding. In the gamma-ray irradiation test, the performance of EAF and magnetite concretes appeared to be similar. Through the results on the excellent physical properties and radiation shielding performance a potential applicability of EAF concrete to radiation shielding was verified.

In order to apply VLC (visible light communication) in harsh environment of nuclear power plant in-containment building, the high luminance LEDs, which are key components of the VLC system, have been gamma irradiated at the dose rate of 4 kGy/h during 72 hours up to a total dose of 288 kGy. The radiation induced coloration effect in the high luminance LED bulb made of acryl or plastic material was observed. In the VLC wireless data transmission experiment using the high luminance LEDs irradiated by high dose rate gamma-ray, the radiation induced coloration effect of the high luminance LED bulb extended the communication distance compared to non-irradiated LEDs.
Radiation absorption parameters of carbon fiber panel were measured in comparison to acrylic panel. $30{\times}30cm$ sized 2mm thick carbon fiber panel and identical sized 6mm thick acrylic panel were placed in tray holder position and 0cm, 5cm, 10cm from surface of phantom. Radiation field size was $10{\times}10cm$. 50MU of 4MV photon was irradiated to the phantom with dose rate of 300MU/min. Source-to-phantom distance was 120cm. Radiation dose was measured with 0.6cc Farmer-type ionization chamber with 1cm build-up. Measurement was repeated thrice and normalization was done to the dose of the open field. Radiation transmission rate of carbon fiber panel is approximately 1% lower than acrylic panel of equivalent thickness. However, considering the strength of the material, transmission rate is higher for carbon fiber panel. Although carbon fiber panel increases the radiation dose when attached to the surface for about 2%, it normalizes the radiation dose to 97-99% of irradiated dose which could have been lowered to as much as 5-7.5% with acrylic panel. As carbon fiber panel is stronger than acrylic panel, radiation fixation device could be made thinner and thus lighter and furthermore, with increased radiation transmission. This in turn makes carbon fiber more ideal material for radiation fixation device over conventionally used acrylic.
The number of facilities using radiation generators increases and related regulations are strengthened, the establishment of a shielding management and evaluation technology has become important. The characteristics of the radiation generator used in previous report differ from those of currently available high-frequency radiation generators. This study aimed to manufacture lead, iron, and concrete shielding materials for the re-verification of half-value layers, tenth-value layers, and attenuation curve. For a comparison of attenuation ratio, iron, lead, and concrete shields were manufactured in this study. The initial dose was measured without shielding materials, and doses measured under different types and thicknesses of shielding material were compared with the initial dose to calculate the transmission rate on 50-300 kVp X-ray. All the three shielding materials showed a tendency to require greater shielding thickness for higher energy. The attenuation graph showed an exponential shape as the thickness decreased and a straight line as the thickness increased. The difference between the measurement results and the previous study, except in extrapolated parts, may be due to the differences in the radiation generation characteristics between the generators used in the two studies. The attenuated graph measured in this study better reflects the characteristics of current radiation generators, which would be more effective for shield designing.
Purpose: Proton therapy has been used for optimal cancer treatment by adapting its Bragg-peak characteristics. Recently, a tissue-sparing effect was introduced in ultrahigh-dose-rate (FLASH) radiation; the high-energy transmission proton beam is considered in proton FLASH therapy. In measuring high-energy/ultrahigh-dose-rate proton beam, Faraday Cup is considered as a dose-rate-independent measurement device, which has been widely studied. In this paper, the feasibility of the simply designed Faraday Cup (Poor Man's Faraday Cup, PMFC) for transmission proton FLASH therapy is investigated. Methods: In general, Faraday cups were used in the measurement of charged particles. The simply designed Faraday Cup and Advanced Markus ion chamber were used for high-energy proton beam measurement in this study. Results: The PMFC shows an acceptable performance, including accuracy in general dosimetric tests. The PMFC has a linear response to the dose and dose rate. The proton fluence was decreased with the increase of depth until the depth was near the proton beam range. Regarding secondary particles backscatter from PMFC, the effect was negligible. Conclusions: In this study, we performed an experiment to investigate the feasibility of PMFC for measuring high-energy proton beams. The PMFC can be used as a beam stopper and secondary monitoring system for transmission proton beam FLASH therapy.

This paper presents the radiation rate formula due of a inclusion of a series capacitor and shunt inductor in a unit cell for the right/left-handed transmission line (RLH-TL). The equivalent circuit for a RLH unit cell considering radiation effects is presented and analyzed in terms of the Bloch impedance and dispersion diagram. It has been found that when two radiation rates are identical, the Blockimpedance reduces to the characteristic impedance of the host conventional RH-TL. Besides, design equations for a unit cell for a specific phase shift at a given frequency are provided. The method of realizing uniform excitation along the RLH-TL is also proposed for antenna applications.

One of the confronting problems in using optical fibers under radiation environments is producing of color centers in optical materials due to nuclear radiation. These centers increase transmission loss by absorbing propagating light. In this study, the radiation effects on optical fiber are studied theoretically. Also, optical attenuation induced by \ulcorner-ray irradiation from Co**60 for single mode and multimode optical fibers is measured at the optical wavelength of 0.85\ulcorner and 1.3\ulcorner, and the results are analyzed. Gammaray is irradiated for 5hours at the rate of 300rads/min, which is corresponding to 90 krads of integrated dose. In case of multimode optical fibers, the induced loss at 0.85\ulcorner wavelength has been twice higher than that at 1.3\ulcorner. The loss in multimode fibers has been significantly larger by 7-20 times than that in single mode fibers, dependently on fiber materials at 1.3\ulcorner.
This study developed a PDA based wireless communication radiation measuring instrument using Bluetooth. The proposed system is composed of Student Radiation Monitor of Vernier using GM (Geiger Mueller) counter tube as a radiation measuring sensor, LabPro of Vernier as a module for data collection, Promi SD 101 of Initium, which can make Bluetooth communication up to 30 m, for wireless data transmission, and HP 5550 embedded with Pocket PC 2003 as OS for data storage and display. Because GM counter tube is used as a radiation measuring sensor, the system cannot measure radiation energy but measures count volume and count rate. When the result of natural radiation measuring by the PDA based system was compared with that by a PC based system, it was found that the proposed system transmits and receives data without distortion.

The equivalent circuit for the RLH-TL is proposed considering radiation effects due to the inclusion of a series capacitor and shunt inductor in a unit cell for the right/left-handed transmission line(RLH-TL). The design equations to realize a specific phase shift at a given frequency is also provided. The S-parameters for unit cells with N=1, 3, 5, and 10 are analyzed in various aspects based on the EM and circuit simulations especially for the purpose of controlling radiation along RLH-TL's. A modification formula for the radiation rate per unit cell is also proposed for good agreement between the EM and circuit simulation results.
