  • In this study, the effects of various operational conditions for floor radiant heating system were researched by experiments. Hot water supply set temperature, indoor air set temperature and supply water flowrate were considered as operational conditions. The control method for this system is On-Off control of automatic thermostatic valve. The purpose of this study is to evaluate indoor thermal control characteristics and energy performance, respectively. As a result, if lower supply water temperature is applied, the supply and return temperature difference is reduced and energy consumption of heat supply is also reduced.

  • The Effects of hot water supply temperature on indoor thermal characteristics for floor radiant heating system in residential apartment were researched by computer simulation. The parametric study on hot water supply temperatures with different outdoor air temperatures was done with regard to energy performance and control characteristics, respectively. As a result, the maximum overshoot of indoor air temperature and energy consumption were reduced by adjusting the hot water supply temperatures with outdoor air temperatures.

  • For the radiant floor heating system, the possibility of suboptimal prediction control was investigated by computer simulation and experiment. For this study, TRANSYS program was used and an experimental facility consisting of two rooms (3$\times$4.4$\times$2.8m) was built. The facility enabled simultaneous comparison of two different control strategies which implemented in a separate room. Results showed that outdoor air temperature prediction control was superior to the conventional outdoor air temperature compensation control for radiant floor heating system. However, more research for fine prediction of outside air temperature was required in the future.

  • In this study, existing control methods that are suggested or applied until now are classified by control parameters, and stability of in the room and floor surface temperatures of each control method is compared through experiments. Then, the control performance of these control methods are analyzed to evaluate the applicability to Korean apartment housing. From the result of the applicability analysis, the outdoor reset with on/off PWM control is found to be desirable for district heating systems and flux modulation is found to be applicable for decentralized heating systems. In the case of independent control systems for each room, on/off PWM control is desirable.

  • In this study, to improve the indoor thermal environment of the radiant floor heating system, a study was conducted on the temperature change characteristics and energy consumption according to the change of the indoor air set temperature, the supply hot water temperature and the outdoor temperature. As for the control method, the on/off control and the thermal difference proportional control method proposed through previous studies were applied. In addition, in consideration of field applicability, numerical analysis was performed for the case where the indoor air temperature sensor was affected by the wall temperature. As a result, it was found that the temperature difference proportional control method is more effective for thermal comfort and energy saving than on/off control.

  • "Ondol" have been used in residential buildings for several thousands years in Korea. The traditional "Ondol" heating system of Korea has changed into the radiant heating system with piping embedded in floors or slabs. This study reports the results of transient experiments performed on a radiant heating system and enclosure. The paper presents some details of the thermal response of slab-heated buildings to varying patterns of heat input. Furthermore, I'll compare the results of experimentation with the ones of the numerical simulation by using the explicit and implicit forms of the finite difference methods (FDM). The study has contributed to testify the feasibility of numerical analysis, and the understanding of the transient behavior of radiant heating panels and enclosure exposed to this type of heating system.

  • The control characteristics for radiant panel heating system with automatic thermostatic valves were researched by computer simulation and experiment. The unsteady energy analysis using equivalent R-C circuit method and radiation heat transfer analysis of enclosure analysis method with simple structured rooms was performed. The results of flow rate changes of the simulation study are good fit with the ones of experimental one.

  • One of the most common approaches to achieve better thermal comfort with the radiant floor heating system is supply water temperature control, which is that supply water temperature is varied with outdoor air temperature. But the application of this control method was not easy, because there has been no way to determine the supply water temperature. So in this study, a comprehensive, yet simple calculation method to find out the required supply water temperature is suggested by combining the building heat loss equation and the heat emission model of hydronic radiant floor heating system for single zone. And then using this calculation method, the multizone control method is suggested and confirmed through the thermal simulation. It is shown that indoor air temperature is stably maintained around the set point.

  • Numerical analysis was applied to a simplified two-dimensional Ondol heating model which consists of heating space on the top of it along with radiant and convective heating floor panel, flue channel in the midway and rectangular underground soil region at the bottom. These three components constitute a system thermally coupled at the top and bottom interfaces of the flue channel. Investigated in the present paper are effects with variations of the Reynolds numbers of 100, 200, and 300, Grashof numbers of $0.1{\times}10^6$ and $0.3{\times}10^6$ and aspect ratios of 15 and 20 on the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of two-dimensional Ondol heating model by computer simulation.

The application possibility of predictive suboptimal control for Koran residential house was investigated by computer simulation and experiment. For this study, TRNSYS program was used and an experimental facility consisting of tow rooms ($3\times4.4\times2.8 m$) identical in construction was built. The facility enabled simultaneous comparison of two different control method. And real multi residential hose was investigated. Results showed that outdoor air temperature prediction control was superior to the conventional control for radiant floor heating system operated in the intermittent heating mode. New control system resulted in good thermal environment and les energy consumption.
