In this paper, we propose a new skyline query processing scheme to enhance accuracy of query processing and communication cost in mobile P2P environments. The proposed scheme consists of three stages such as the pre-skyline processing, the query transmission range extension policy, and the continuous skyline query processing. In the pre-skyline processing, a peer selects the candidate filtering objects who have the potential to be selected. By doing so, the proposed scheme reduces the filtering cost when processing the query. In the query transmission range extension policy, we have improved the accuracy by extending the query transmission range. In addition, it can handle continuous skyline query by performing the monitoring after the first skyline query processing. In order to show the superiority of the proposed method, we compare it with the existing schemes through performance evaluation. As a result, it was shown that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes.

As data stream is entered into system continuously and the memory space is limited, the data exceeding the memory size cannot be processed. In order to solve the problem, load shedding methods which drop a part of data to prevent exceeding the storage space have been researched. Generally, a traditional load shedding method uses random sampling with optimized rate according to data deviation. The method samples data not to distinguish those used in spatial query because the method uses only a random sampling with optimized rate according to data deviation. Therefore, the accuracy of query was reduced in u-GIS environment including spatial query. In this paper, we researched a new load shedding method improving accuracy of the query in u-GIS environment which runs spatial query and aspatial query simultaneously. The method uses a new sampling method that samples data having low probability used in query. Therefore proposed method improves spatial query accuracy and query processing speed as applying spatial filtering operation to sampling operator.

The ability of the searcher to express their information problem to an information retrieval system is fundamental to the retrieval process. Query by visual example is the principal query paradigm for expressing queries in a content-based image retrieval environment yet there is little empirical evidence to support its efficacy in facilitating query formulation. The aim of this research was to investigate the usability of the query by colour method in supporting a range of information problems in order to contribute to the gap in knowledge regarding the relationship between searchers' information problems and the query methods required to support efficient and effective visual query formulation. The results strongly suggest that the query method does not support visual query formulation and that there is a significant mismatch between the searchers information problems and the expressive power of the retrieval paradigm.
Materialized views which are stored views of the database offer opportunities for significant performance gain in query valuation by providing fast access to pre-computed data. The question of when and how to use a materialized view in processing a given query is a difficult one attracting a significant amount of research. Whether a materialized view can be used in answering a query depends on the relationship between the view and the query. Proposed in this paper are new ways of utilizing materialized views in answering a query. Semantic relationships are used in addition to syntactic ones. We also utilize a materialized view in answering a query even if it has relations unrelated to the query. We first show the conditions for testing whether a materialized view can be utilized in answering a query and then present the algorithms for testing the conditions and reformulating a query with a materialized view.

Processing the continuous queries which perform the identical query in given time interval is required because of the continuous change of location of the moving object. Thus the continuous query may cause loads to the server or network and take the cost of processing time because the continuous query is performed in server as the moving object's location changes. In this paper, we propose the query processing technique to perform the continuous range query that is a sort of continuous query effectively The proposed query processing technique predicts the query result and the validity of query answer to perform the continuous query for reciprocal moving object. And it enables to process effectively the query that moves dynamically.
With the development of location aware technologies and mobile devices, location-based services have been studied. To provide location-based services, many researchers proposed methods for processing various query types with Mapreduce(MR). One of the proposed methods, is a Reverse k-nearest neighbor(RkNN) query processing method with MR. However, the existing methods spend too much cost to process the continuous RkNN query. In this paper, we propose an efficient continuous RkNN query processing method with MR to resolve the problems of the existing methods. The proposed method uses the 60-degree-pruning method. The proposed method does not need to reprocess the query for continuous query processing because the proposed method draws and monitors the monitoring area including the candidate objects of a RkNN query. In order to show the superiority of the proposed method, we compare it with the query processing performance of the existing method.

The applying of semantic technologies that aim to let computers understand and automatically process the meaning of the interlinked data on the Web is spreading. In Semantic Web, understanding and accessing the associations between data that is, the meaning between data as well as accessing to the data itself is important. W3C recommended RDF (Resource Description Framework) as a standard format to represent both Semantic Web data and their associations and also proposed several RDF query languages in order to support query processing for RDF data. However further researches on the query language definition considering the semantic associations and query processing techniques are still required. In this paper, using the suffix array-based indexing scheme previously introduced for RDF query processing, we propose a query processing approach to handle ${\rho}$-path query which is the representative type of semantic associations. To evaluate the query processing performance of the proposed approach, we implemented two different types of query processing approaches and measured the average query processing times. The experiments show that the proposed approach achieved 1.8 to 2.5 and 3.8 to 11 times better performance respectively than others two.

In order to integrate distributed biological information sources physically or virtually, it is necessary to overcome the heterogeneity of information sources and support a superior generality and adaptation in order to satisfy user's various demands. In this paper, we present a flexible and general XML query engine of a wrapper system in designing the middleware system to integrate data as well as application programs. Since this query engine applies user-defined XML view, it is possible to composite flexible integrated query. The query processing in a wrapper requires view composition, query translation into local sources, and generation of XML documents from local query results. We present a query processing model based on the view tree, where the n views and the XML queries are represented by the view tree. Moreover, to confirm the generality of our query processing model, we present a methodology of query processing for relational databases, web sources, and application programs whose return types of query results are relational tuples or XML documents.

In stream data processing system, generally the interval queries are in advance registered in the system. When a data is input to the system continuously, for realtime processing, a query indexing method is used to quickly search queries. Thus, a main memory-based query index with a small storage cost and a fast search time is needed for searching queries. In this paper, we propose a LVC-based(Limited Virtual Construct-based) query index method using a hashing to meet the both needs. In LVC-based query index, we divide the range of a stream into limited virtual construct, or LVC. We map each interval query to its corresponding LVC and the query ID is stored on each LVC. We have compared with the CEI-based query indexing method through the simulation experiment. When the range of values of input stream is broad and there are many short interval queries, the LVC-based indexing method have shown the performance enhancement for the storage cost and search time.

Object-oriented database systems have been proposed as an effective solution for providing the data management facilities of complex applications. Proving this claim and the investigation of related issues such as query processing have been hampered by the absence of a formal object-oriented query model. In this paper, we not only define a query model based on aggregation inheritance but also develop semantic rewriting rules which are applied to equivalence preserving rewrite rules in algebraic expression of a query. Analyzing semantically the query model, the query model can be optimized to logically object-oriented query processing. And algebra expresstions of a query can be optimized by applying equivalence preserving rewrite rules.
