  • This paper presents a methodology to nominate and select improvement projects that are perceived as adding value to customers (both internal and external). The structure of the methodology can be explained in three "stages." First, the methodology suggests a new way of categorizing improvement opportunities, i.e. reactive-proactive, to "upgrade" the little Q-big Q categorisation. Then, it develops a roadmap that links performance indicators and improvement projects for both reactive and proactive improvements. Finally, it suggests an algorithm to select the improvement project, where the assessment of to what extent the nominated improvement projects add value to customers relies on the comparison between Overall Perceived Benefits (OPB) and Overall Perceived Efforts (OPE). The improvement project perceived as having the largest impact on adding value to customers receives the highest priority.

  • In this paper we propose a levitation and imbalance compensation controller design methodology of magnetic bearing system. In order to achieve levitation and elimination of unbalance vibartion in some operation speed we use the discrete-time Q-parameterization control. When rotor speed p = 0 there are no rotor unbalance, with frequency equals to the rotational speed. So in order to make levitatiom we choose the Q-parameterization controller free parameter Q such that the controller has poles on the unit circle at z = 1. However, when rotor speed p $\neq$ 0 there exist sinusoidal disturbance forces, with frequency equals to the rotational speed. So in order to achieve asymptotic rejection of these disturbance forces, the Q-parameterization controller free parameter Q is chosen such that the controller has poles on the unit circle at z = $exp^{ipTs}$ for a certain speed of rotation p ( $T_s$ is the sampling period). First, we introduce the experimental setup employed in this research. Second, we give a mathematical model for the magnetic bearing in difference equation form. Third, we explain the proposed discrete-time Q-parameterization controller design methodology. The controller free parameter Q is assumed to be a proper stable transfer function. Fourth, we show that the controller free parameter which satisfies the design objectives can be obtained by simply solving a set of linear equations rather than solving a complicated optimization problem. Finally, several simulation and experimental results are obtained to evaluate the proposed controller. The results obtained show the effectiveness of the proposed controller in eliminating the unbalance vibrations at the design speed of rotation.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the subjective relapse experiences of patients with alcohol use disorder in one's life context. Methods: A Q methodology was used to analyze the subjectivity of relapse experiences among 55 participants with alcohol use disorder. Fifty-five Q-statement were derived from interviews and literature review. Q-statements were classified into normally distributed shapes using a 9-point scale. Data were analyzed using the QUANL program. Results: Four types of relapse experiences were identified: failure to self-regulation drinking cravings, fear of relapse and awareness of the need for treatment, drinking as a coping mechanism and defensive coping, and lack of motivation to change drinking behavior. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that patients with alcohol use disorder need a differential approach based on four types of relapse experiences in the recovery process.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the attitude toward multi-cultural families. Method: The Q-methodology which provides a method of analyzing the subjectivity of each item was used. Thirty nurses classified the 34 selected Q-statements into a normal distribution using a 9 point scale. The collected data was analyzed using the Quanl PC program. Result: Four types of attitudes toward multi-cultural families were identified. The first type(value-neutral acceptance) considered multi-cultural families as individual's choice so they accepted it as one type of families and they persisted that nobody can oppose or blame for it. The second type(inevitable acceptance) considered multi-cultural families as a necessary evil that can solve the problem of old bachelors' seeking marriage. The third type (NIMBY: Not in my backyard) understood various advantage of multi-cultural families but they opposed their own family's intermarriage. The fourth type(negative prejudice) considered intermarriage as trading for the benefit of each other and they had strong antipathy against multi-cultural families. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that different approaches of educational program based on the four types of attitudes toward multi-cultural families are recommended.

  • This study examined attitudes of grandmothers who had experience in grandchild care in order to explore their subjectivity. Research questions were 1) to categorize the attitudes toward grandchild care, and 2) to analyze each type's characteristics and elucidate the analyses. The results are as follows. Grandmothers' attitudes toward grandchild care were categorized into three types: (1) adjusting-to-role-change type, (2) recognizing-the-role-burdens type, (3) enjoying-the-traditional-role type. Type 1, the adjusting-to-role-change type was aware of positive facets of grandchild care, and actively accepted the caring responsibility, but did not think it was a grandmother's duty to care for the grandchildren or that it was the sole pleasure in a grandmother's life. Type 2, the recognizing-the-role-burdens type, had a negative view regarding grandchild care, perceiving the cost too high relative to the reward. On the other hand, Type 3, the enjoying-the-traditional-role type considered grandchild care as a pleasure and a duty, and downplayed negative aspects such as having no time to herself, assuming the traditional grandmother role and enjoying it. These results imply that the attitudes of grandmothers nowadays are undergoing a change from the traditional grandmother role attitude.
