Arousal Inhibitory Effect of Phlorotannins on Caffeine in Pentobarbital-Induced Mice

  • Sleep is vital to maintain health and well-being; however, insomnia is currently a widespread health complaint worldwide. In particular, caffeine, a psychoactive component of coffee, tea, and caffeine beverages may lead to sleep disorders such as insomnia. In this study, our primary objective was to investigate the inhibitory effect of high-purity phlorotannin preparation (HP-PRT) on caffeine-induced wakefulness. The sleep test of pentobarbital-induced mice was used as an in vivo animal model. Caffeine (50 and 100 mg/kg) showed significant arousal effects (an increase in sleep latency and a decrease in sleep duration). Co-administration of caffeine (50 mg/kg) and the sedative-hypnotic diazepam (DZP, 1 mg/kg) did not result in similar arousal activity. HP-PRT (500 mg/kg) also inhibited caffeine-induced wakefulness. Our results suggest that HP-PRT would be a useful additive for developing coffee products without the arousal effect.

헬륨가스 냉각 고온초전도 케이블의 절연특성 평가 시스템 개발 및 성능평가 (Development and Test results of the Dielectric Evaluation System for a Helium Gas Cooled HTS Cable)

  • The novel type of cable under consideration is cooled by gaseous Helium at elevated pressure. Helium is known for having poor electric breakdown strength; therefore the dielectric capabilities of this type of cable must be tested under conditions similar to the envisaged operation. In order to study the dielectric performance we have designed and built a novel high pressure cryostat rated at 2.17 MPa which has been used for testing model cables of lengths of up to 1 m. The cryostat is an open system where the gas is not re-circulated. This allows maintaining a high purity of the gas. The target temperature range is between 40 K and 70 K. This substantially increases the critical current density of the HTS compared to 77 K, which is the typical temperature of cables cooled by liquid nitrogen. The cryostat presented allows for adjusting the temperature and keeping it constant for the time necessary to run a complete dielectric characterization test. We give a detailed description of the cryostat. Measurements of partial discharge inception voltages as well as the temperature distribution along the model cables as a function of time are presented.

저장 온도와 안정제 양에 따른 고농도 과산화수소의 자연 분해 특성 (Self-Decomposition Characteristic of Concentrated Hydrogen Peroxide with Temperature and Stabilizer)

  • 과산화수소의 저장성 평가 방법을 소개하고, 고농도 과산화수소의 저장성을 평가하였다. 농도 측정 방법을 통하여 저장성을 평가하였으며, 과산화수소의 MIL-PRF-16005F 기준 만족 여부와 저장 온도 및 저장 용기의 마개 재질을 실험 변수로 선정하여 저장성을 평가하였다. 8~24개월 동안 측정을 수행한 결과, 안정제가 포함된 과산화수소가 추진제급 과산화수소에 비해 저장성이 매우 떨어졌으며, 과산화수소 증기와 반응을 보이지 않은 파라핀 필름으로 용기를 밀폐하였을 때, 플라스틱 마개를 사용한 경우에 비해 좋은 저장성을 나타내었다. 또한 과산화수소의 저장성에는 온도가 매우 큰 영향을 미쳐 상온에 비해 $10^{\circ}C$ 이하에서 보관하였을 때 저장성이 크게 향상되었다.

이산화탄소의 증발열전달 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Characteristics of Evaporative Heat Transfer of Carbon Dioxide)

  • Evaporative heat transfer characteristics of carbon dioxide have been investi- gated by experiment. The experiments have been carried out for a seamless stainless steel tube of the outer diameter of 9.55 mm, the inner diameter of 7.75 mm and the length of 5.0 m. Direct heating method was used for supplying heat to the refrigerant where the test tube was uniformly heated by electric current which was applied to the tube wall. Experiments were conducted with$CO_2$of purity 99.99% at saturation temperatures of 0.0 to 10.5$^{\circ}C$, heat fluxes of 12 to 27kW/$m^2$s and mass fluxes of 212 to 530 kg/$m^2$s. The heat transfer coefficients of $CO_2$are decreased as the vapor quality increases and these phenomena are explained by dimensionless Weber and Bond numbers. The heat transfer coefficients of$CO_2$increase when the heat and mass fluxes increase, and the saturation temperature effects are minor in the test range of this study. The present experimental data are compared with six renowned correlations with root-mean-squared deviations ranging from 23.0 to 94.9% respectively.

센서 응용을 위한 다공성 골드의 제조 (Preparation of Porous Gold for Sensor Applications)

  • U-safety system 구축을 위한 휴대 및 설치가 편리한 액상/기상 센서가 요구되고 있다. 나노다공성 알루미나를 구조유도체로 사용한 다공성 골드(Au)를 제조하여 센서의 전극 및 센서기질로 사용하였다. 제조한 다공성 골드는 평균 $200{\sim}300\;nm$의 윈도우 기공을 갖고, $4.8\;m^2/g$의 비표면적을 갖는 100% 순수한 골드로 구성되어 있다. 다공성 골드는 우수한 전기전도성, 불순물의 탈 부착에 따른 저항 변화 측정의 간편성, 좋은 재현성을 가져 액상/기상 센서의 기질로 사용하기에 적합하다. 본 연구에서는 검증실험으로 실시간 수은 검출실험을 실시하여, 센서로서의 활용 가능성을 확인하였다.

듀얼 FDG 자동합성장치 개발 (Development of Dual FDG Auto Synthesis Module)

  • [$^{18}F$]FDG (2-[$^{18}F$] Fluoro-2-deoxy-D-Glucose), which is required Automated Synthetic Module for production, is most often used Radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine. In this study, an Automated Synthesis Module was developed to produce FDG in two consecutive time when F-18 feds continuously by modifying a domestic FDG Automated Synthetic Module on structural geometry and control system. The results were showed that the Average Synthesis Yields on the developed Automated Synthetic Module were $45{\pm}3%$ (n=20), $50{\pm}3%$ (n=20) respectively. The Quality Control results, such as Radio TLC, Radiochemical purity, Gamma-counter, pH, LAL Test, Micro bacteria test, showed in same level with domestic [$^{18}F$]FDG Auto-Synthetic modules. Therefore, if some features were improved by considering the components life time and appearance, commercial sales can be expected because of low price and easy maintenance compared with foreign products.

국내산 상지(桑枝)의 품질관리 연구 (Studies on quality control of domestic Morus alba Linne)

  • Objectives : Mori Ramulus is a young branch of Morus alba Linne, which has been used as traditional medicines for antidiarrhea, antibacteria, and antihypertension in Korea. With the basis on these medicinal activities, it is registered at the Korean Herbal Pharmacopoeia. The standard for quality control in use, however, is not yet validated.Methods : We experiment on heavy metals test, TLC, loss on drying, ash, acid-insoluble ash, contents of ethanolsoluble extracts and contents of oxyresveratrol by using the 15 samples of Mori Ramulus which are collected domestically. We tested items according to the General Test, processes and apparatus, Crude Drugs Test of KP(2011).Results : Purity test(Heavy metals) showed contents for Pb, As, Hg, and Cd range of 0.1~1.1 ppm, 0.0~0.2 ppm, 0.00~0.01 ppm, and 0.00~0.02 ppm. Identification test(Thin layer chromatography) was on comparing with morucine standard solution in Rf value, all samples showed morucine spot (dark blue, Rf : 0.3) as same as Rf value of morucine-standard solution. Loss on drying was ranged from 5.1 to 8.9 %, ash and acid-insoluble ash were between the range 3.0~6.3% and 0.3~0.8%. Contents of ethanol-soluble extracts was ranged from 6.2 to 12.0%. Content of oxyresveratrol was ranged from 0.01 to 0.16 % based on the oxyresveratrol standard curve.Conclusions : We sincerely hope that this study will be contributed to the standardization and quality control of Korean herbal medicines.

  • 70 N급 액체로켓엔진 개발모델의 추력실 최적설계형상 도출을 위한 지상연소시험을 수행하였다. 단일추진제급(순도: ${\geq}98.5%$) 하이드라진이 연소시험용 추진제로 선정되었고, 특성길이($L^*$) 2.79, 2.95, 그리고 3.13 m를 갖는 추력실에 대한 성능평가가 수행되었다. 시험조건 내에서의 촉매대 $L^*$ 증가는 추력기의 성능저하를 야기하는 것이 관찰되었으며, 개발모델의 펄스응답 성능이 현재 상용화되어 있는 하이드라진 추력기와 비교하여 우수한 것이 확인되었다.

Assessment of chemical purity of [13N]ammonia injection: Identification of aluminium ion concentration

  • $[^{13}N]$Ammonia or $[^{13}N]NH_3$ is one of the most widely used PET tracer for the measurement of MBF. To produce $[^{13}N]NH_3$, devarda's alloy which contains aluminum, copper and zinc is used for the purpose of reduction from $^{13}N$-nitrate/nitrite to $[^{13}N]NH_3$. Since aluminum has neurotoxicity and renal toxicity, the amount of it should be carefully limited for the administration to the human body. Although USP and EP provide a way to identify the aluminum ion concentration, there are some difficulties to perform. Therefore, we tried to develop the modified method for verifying aluminum concentration of test solution. We compared color between test and standard solutions using chrome azurol S in pH 4.6 acetate buffer. We also tested color change of test and standard solutions according to pH, amounts and the order of reagent and time difference These results demonstrated that the color change of the solution can reflect quantitatively measure aluminum ion concentration. We hope the method is to be used effectively and practically in many sites where $[^{13}N]NH_3$ is produced.

유기농 식물성 계면활성제의 합성과 베르가못오일에 대한 가용화력에 관한 연구 (A Study on Synthesis of Organic Plant Surfactant and Its Solubilizing Action on Bergamot Oil)

  • 이 연구는 유기농 식물성 계면활성제의 화장품 가용화력에 관한 연구이다. 유기농으로 인증된 원료를 사용하여 고순도의 폴리글리세릴-10올리에이트와 폴리글리세릴-10스테아레이트를 합성하여 우수한 가용화력을 가진 계면활성제를 개발하였다. 이 혼합원료의 이름을 Solubil ORG-1300으로 칭하였다. 이 원료의 외관은 엷은 노란색의 페이스트이었고, 특이한 고유의 냄새를 가지고 있었다. 비중은 1.15, 산가는 0.072±0.1로 순도가 높았다. 이 계면활성제의 HLB값은 평균값=15.1로 Griffin식을 사용하여 계산하였다. 유기농 가용화제가 향과 오일을 어떻게 가용화되는가를 메커니즘적으로 해석하였다. 가용화 실험은 두 가지 오일에 대하여 성능실험을 통하여 육안으로 판별하고 UV분광광도계로 890nm에서 투과도를 측정하여 투명도를 평가하였다. 이 결과 베르가못오일을 가용화하는데 필요한 계면활성제의 농도는 약 2배정도가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 토코페릴아세테이트를 가용화하는데 필요한 계면활성제의 농도는 약 8배정도가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. pH변화에 따른 가용화력을 실험한 결과 pH=3.5의 산성영역, pH=7.2의 중성영역, pH=11.5의 알칼리성영역에서도 안정화된 가용화력을 보였다. 화장품의 응용분야로써 보습스킨토너 처방을 성공적으로 개발하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 스킨케어, 베이비 로션, 민감성 혹은 아토피 피부용 화장품에 폭넓게 응용이 가능할 것으로 기대한다.
