Effects on the Al2O3 Thin Film by the Ar Pulse Time in the Atomic Layer Deposition (원자층 증착에 있어서 아르곤 펄스 시간이 Al2O3 박막에 미치는 효과)

  • As an insulator for a thin film transistor(TFT) and an encapsulation material of organic light emitting diode(OLED), aluminum oxide (Al2O3) has been widely studied using several technologies. Especially, in spite of low deposition rate, atomic layer deposition (ALD) has been used as a process method of Al2O3 because of its low process temperature and self-limiting reaction. In the Al2O3 deposition by ALD method, Ar Purge had some crucial effects on the film properties. After reaction gas is injected as a formation of pulse, an inert argon(Ar) purge gas is injected for gas desorption. Therefore, the process parameter of Ar purge gas has an influence on the ALD deposited film quality. In this study, Al2O3 was deposited on glass substrate at a different Ar purge time and its structural characteristics were investigated and analyzed. From the results, the growth rate of Al2O3 was decreased as the Ar purge time increases. The surface roughness was also reduced with increasing Ar purge time. In order to obtain the high quality Al2O3 film, it was known that Ar purge times longer than 15 sec was necessary resulting in the self-limiting reaction.

Volatile Flavor Compounds in Commercial Milk by Static Headspace, Purge and Trap, Solid-Phase Microextraction (Static headspace, purge & trap 및 solid-phase microextraction을 이용한 시판우유의 휘발성 향기성분 분석)

  • Volatile flavor compounds in commercial sterilized milk were analyzed and identified by static headspace, purge-and-trap, and solid-phase microextraction (SPME) methods. About 20 volatile compounds were identified by GC/MS, and aldehydes and ketones were the most distinctive and abundant compounds. Static headspace analysis allowed the identification of only the most abundant compounds, such as acetone. Five ketones (acetone, 2-butanone, 2-pentanone, 2-heptanone, 2-nonanone), four aldehydes (2-methylbutanal, pentanal, hexanal, benzaldehyde) and dimethyl sulfide, all of which were responsible for off-flavor in milk, were found by the purge-and-trap and SPME methods. The two methods differed little in their release of these compounds, but they yielded different amounts in the extraction.

Night Purge Control Strategies With Outdoor Air Temperature Conditions for Central Cooling System (중앙냉방시스템의 외기온도조건을 고려한 나이트 퍼지 제어방안에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the effects of control strategies of night-purge control system on control characteristics and energy consumption for central cooling system in building are researched by simulation. The start time and set-point temperature for night-purge control with outdoor temperature changes and building cold storage performance are obtained. The system analysis modelling is done by using TRNSYS program package, and the control performances with suggested night-purge control method are compared with the existing control ones. As a result, the suggested night-purge control method shows maximum 16.8% and 28.6% energy saving in comparison with existing control method and conventional one without night-purge control, respectively.

The effect of acupuncture treated by tonification and sedation manipulation at LI4 and KI7 on lacking of sweating in cold environment(I) (합곡(合谷) 복류(復溜) 보사(補瀉) 시술(施術)이 소한(少汗)에 미치는 영향(影響)(I))

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of the tonification & sedation manipulation for LI4 and KI7 on lacking of sweating in cold environment. Methods: The participants were divided into 3 groups as intact group without acupuncture, acupuncture group inserting and twisting with LI4 tonificaton and KI7 sedation method(LI4-tonify KI7-purge) and acupuncture group inserting and twisting with LI4 sedation and KI7 tonificaton method(LI4-purge KI7-tonify). We obtained baseline data at cold condition with the temperature $14{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. After making the participant staying in cold condition for 10 minute, we measured sweating rate in skin surface, body temperature, oxygen saturation, pulse rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, deoxy-Hb and oxy-Hb in subcutaneous. Results : After acupuncture in cold environment, the sweating rate in skin surface significantly decreased in KI7-purge LI4-tonify group comparing the intact groups. The body temperature significantly increased in LI4-tonify KI7-purge and LI4-purge KI7-tonify groups comparing the intact group. The oxygen saturation significantly increased in LI4-tonify KI7-purge group comparing the intact group. Conclusions : These findings indicated that LI4 tonificaton and KI7 sedation method(LI4-tonify KI7-purge) could be effective for production of sweating in cold condition.

  • Since trihalomethanes (THMs) and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were detected and measured in drinking water supplies in 1974, because of the frequent occurrence of these compounds and the potential health hazard they pose, several methods for detecting VOCs have been developed. The most widely accepted method for the analysis of THMs and other VOCs is a purgeand-trap method. In the analysis of VOCs by purge-and-trap,there are several factors which may give rise to errors. Some of the factors to be considered are purge time, carryover effect, cryofocusing temperature, and trap desorption temperature. In this study,many aspects of purge-and-trap were investigated. Understanding the sources of error makes it possible to adapt the analysis parameters to compensate for such effects.

  • Radioactive materials from nuclear power facilities can be released into the atmosphere through various channels. Recently, the dispersion of radioactive materials has become critical issue in Korea after Kori Unit 1 and Wolsong Unit 1 were permanently shut down. In this study, annual atmospheric dispersion factors were compared based on the continuous release and purge release using the XOQDOQ computer program, a method for calculating atmospheric dispersion factors at commercial nuclear power stations. The meteorological data analyzed in this study was based on the Shin Kori nuclear power meteorological tower which has the largest operating nuclear power plants in Korea, for three years (from 2008 to 2010). The analysis results of the dispersion factor of the radioactive material release obtained using the XOQDOQ program showed that the difference between the continuous release and purge release was within two times. This study will be valuable helpful for revealing the uncertainty of the predictive atmospheric dispersion factor to achieve regulation.

Effects of aging and freezing/thawing sequence on quality attributes of bovine Mm. gluteus medius and biceps femoris

  • Objective: The effects of aging and freezing/thawing sequence on color, physicochemical, and enzymatic characteristics of two beef muscles (Mm. gluteus medius, GM and biceps femoris, BF) were evaluated. Methods: Beef muscles at 3 d postmortem were assigned to four different combinations of aging and freezing/thawing sequence as follows; aging at $2^{\circ}C$ for 3 wk (A3, never-frozen control), freezing at $-28^{\circ}C$ for 2 wk then thawing (F2, frozen/thawed-only), aging at $2^{\circ}C$ for 3 wk, freezing at $-28^{\circ}C$ for 2 wk then thawing (A3F2), and freezing at $-28^{\circ}C$ for 2 wk, thawing then further aging at $2^{\circ}C$ for 3 wk (F2A3). Results: No significant interactions between different aging/freezing/thawing treatments and muscle type on all measurements were found. Postmortem aging, regardless of aging/freezing/thawing sequence, had no impact on color stability of frozen/thawed beef muscles (p<0.05). F2A3 resulted in higher purge loss than F2 and A3F2 treatments (p<0.05). A3F2 and F2A3 treatments resulted in lower shear force of beef muscles compared to F2 (p<0.05). Although there was no significant difference in glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity, F2A3 had the highest ${\beta}-N-acetyl$ glucominidase (BNAG) activity in purge, but the lowest BNAG activity in muscle (p<0.05). GM muscle exhibited higher total color changes and purge loss, and lower GSH-Px activity than BF muscle. Conclusion: The results from this present study indicate that different combinations of aging/freezing/thawing sequence would result in considerable impacts on meat quality attributes, particularly thaw/purge loss and tenderness. Developing a novel freezing strategy combined with postmortem aging will be beneficial for the food/meat industry to maximize its positive impacts on tenderness, while minimizing thaw/purge loss of frozen/thawed meat.

Optimization of Dynamic Headspace Purge Conditions for Concentration of Volatile Flavor Compounds of Roasted Perilla Seeds Oil by Response Surface Methodology (반응표면 분석에 의한 볶음들기름의 향기성분 포집조건 최적화)

  • Dynamic headspace purge conditions were investigated to obtain minimum loss of high volatile compounds by breakthrough and maximum recovery of low volatile components of roasted perilla seed oil (RPSO). A response surface methodology was applied to evaluate the effect of purge temperature, purge time, and sample weight on $\ell$ n (total peak area), breakthrough ratio, and peak area of perilla ketone the least volatile component of RPSO. Sample weight was the most important factor on the $\ell$ n (total peak area) but it did not affect peak area of perilla ketone. All process variables significantly influenced breakthrough ratio. The optimum condition was determined by superimposing contour plots at purge temperature of 48$^{\circ}C$ for 12 min purge time at sample weight of 0.60 g. 2-Propanone, 2-butanone, acetic acid, 2-methyl propanal were main breakthrough compounds in RPSO flavor.

Energy Saving Effect of the Night Purge Control using ERV in a School Building (전열교환형 환기시스템을 이용한 학교건물의 나이트 퍼지 적용 효과 분석)

  • The indoor temperature of a building increases during the day due to solar radiation. This behavior is significant in school buildings that are finished with high thermal capacity materials. Moreover, in school buildings, windows cannot be opened until the class has finished owing to the security policy of schools. Consequently, classrooms maintain a high temperature throughout the morning. It is thus important to remove the indoor heat before the commencement of classes in order to reduce the cooling energy needed. The Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) system is currently being installed in school buildings for ventilating the classrooms. Night-purge control using ERV can be a good strategy to cool the classroom in advance of the operation of the cooling system. However, the optimal operation method of the ERV for night-purge control has not yet been reported. In this study, the effect of night-purge control with ERV in school buildings is analyzed by simulation method. The results of this study showed that the energy saving effect of night-purge control with ERV is most effective in the case of 2 hours operation prior to the commencement of the first lass and when enthalpy based outdoor air cooling is used.
