  • In order to handle the problem that puncture patterns will change the position distribution of original information bits and frozen bits in polar codes, which affects performance of puncture polar codes further, a minimum row weight and polar spectrum based puncture polar codes construction algorithm (called PA-MRWP) is proposed in this paper. The algorithm calculates row weight of generator matrix and sorts the row weight in ascending order first. Next, the positions with the minimum row weight are selected as initial puncture positions. If the rows with the same row weight cannot all be punctured, polar spectrum based auxiliary puncture scheme is used. In sub-channels with the same row weight, rows corresponding to the polarized sub-channels with higher reliability are selected as puncture positions to construct puncture vector, and the reliability is calculated based on polar spectrum. It is actually a two-step selection strategy, the proposed minimum row weight puncture (MRWP) algorithm is used for primary selection and polar spectrum based auxiliary puncture is used for adjustment. Simulation results show that, compared with worst quality puncture (WQP) algorithm, the proposed PA-MRWP algorithm and Gaussian approximation-aided minimum row weight puncture (GA-MRWP) algorithm provide gains of about 0.46 dB and 0.29 dB at bit error rate (BER) of 10-4, respectively when code length N=400, code rate R=1/2. In addition, the proposed puncture algorithms improve the BER performance significantly with respect to quasi-uniform puncture (QUP) algorithm.

  • In this paper, we prove that for all odd prime powers $q$ there exist MDS(maximum distance separable) self-dual codes over $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$ for all even lengths up to $q+1$. Additionally, we prove that there exist MDS self-dual codes of length four over $\mathbb{F}_q$ for all $q$ > 2, $q{\neq}5$.

  • A package to transport high-level radioactive materials is required to withstand normal transport and hypothetical accident conditions pursuant to the IAEA and domestic regulations. The package should maintain the structural safety not to release radioactive material in any condition. The structural safety of the package has been evaluated by tests using proto-type or scaled-down models, however, the method by analysis is gradually utilized due to recent advancement of computers and computer codes. In this paper, to evaluate the structural safety of a radioisotope package of the KAERI, the three dimensional impact analyses under 9m free drop and 1m puncture were performed with an explicit finite-element code, the LS-DYNA3D code. The maximum stress intensity on each part was calculated and the structural safety of the package was evaluated in accordance with the regulations.

  • A marine helicopter should remain sufficiently upright to permit safe evacuation of all personnel with a flotation system. And the rule requires that after ditching in water, the adequate flotation time will allow the occupants to leave the rotorcraft. To this end, stability test of the emergency flotation system for Korean marine helicopter was performed by using "Froude scaling method" in water tank. Test configuration and conditions were determined in consideration of the helicopter loading condition and related specifications. Test results meet the stability requirements at sea state code 4 and sea state code 2 with puncture conditions.

  • This paper addresses the effect of group delay in satellite communication system. Phase of signal is distorted by the non-constant group delay. Group delay can be modeled as linear, parabolic and cubic type according to the polynomial characteristic. We investigate BER performance of satellite communication system with each 3 kinds of group delay. As signal bandwidth becomes wider, group delay makes more influence on the signal. BNR performance of satellite communication system is found when data rates are 1Mbps, 4Mbps and 8Mbps. Convolution coding with the code rate of 1/2 or 7/8 is used. At BER =10$\^$-5/, system with group delay needs more SNR of minimum 0.3㏈ to maximum 4.4㏈ than system without group delay. The worst case of BER performance happens in the linear group delay, 7/8 punctured convolution coding and 8 Mbps. The required SNR is increased by 4.4㏈ at this worst case.

  • HIC transport packaging to transport a high integrity container(HIC) containing dry spent resin generated from nuclear power plants is to comply with the regulatory requirements of Korea and IAEA for Type B packaging due to the high radioactivity of the content, and to maintain the structural integrity under normal and accident conditions. It must withstand 9 m free drop impact onto an unyielding surface and 1 m drop impact onto a mild steel bar in a position causing maximum damage. For the conceptual design of a cylindrical HIC transport package, three dimensional dynamic structural analysis to ensure that the integrity of the package is maintained under all credible loads for 9 m free drop and 1 m puncture conditions were carried out using ABAQUS code.
