  • New WSW(Wrap Side Wall) is proposed to decrease junction electric field in this paper. WSW process is fabricated after first gate etch, followed NM1 ion implantation and deposition & etch nitride layer. New WSW structure has buffer layer to decrease electric field. Also we compared the hot carrier characteristics of WSW and conventional. Also, we design a test pattern including pulse generator, level shifter and frequency divider, so that we can evaluate AC hot carrier degradation on-chip. It came to light that the universality of the hot carrier degradation between DC and AC stress condition exists, which indicates that the device degradation comes from the same physical mechanism for both AC and DC stress. From this universality, AC lifetime under circuit operation condition can be estimated from DC hot carrier degradation characteristics.

  • The exact partial discharge pulse should be measured in order to estimate the discharge source in the solid insulation and diagnose the degree of deterioration. Partial discharges generated in the insulation occur in the internal voids or at the edge of the insulation, have unique characteristics following the type and location. When external voltage is applied, Partial discharges occurred in the restrictively presented voids increase the quantity of electrical charge at the discharge onset voltage. The discharge characteristics have remained constant as space is filled by the impurity such as a compound of gases accompanied with discharge. In this study, How to design the insulation about the problems of the built-in diagnostics in the transformer is discussed by the interpretation of electric field.

  • This review explores the factors that improve meat protein digestibility and applies the findings to the development of home meal replacements with improved protein digestion rates in older adults. Various methods improve the digestion rate of proteins, such as heat, ultrasound, high pressure, or pulse electric field. In addition, probiotics aid in protein digestion by improving the function of digestive organs and secreting enzymes. Plant-derived proteases, such as papain, bromelain, ficin, actinidin, or zingibain, can also improve the protein digestion rate; however, the digestion rate is dependent on the plant enzyme used and protein characteristics. Sous vide processing improves the rate and extent of protein digestibility, but the protein digestion rate decreases with increasing temperature and heating time. Ultrasound, high pressure, or pulsed electric field treatments degrade the protein structure and increase the proteolytic enzyme contact area to improve the protein digestion rate.

  • The expansion and stable operation of electric power facilities are important factors with development of industrial facilities in modern society. In high-voltage equipment such as GIS, the insulation characteristics may be deterioated by environment-friendly gas adaption and miniaturization. There is also the possibility of accidents due to insulation breakdown due to the deterioration of power facilities. Therefore, it is necessary to extend the diagnosis system to continuously monitor the danger signals of these power equipment and to prevent accidents. Most of the internal defects in the GIS system are conductive particles, floating electrode defects, protrusion defects, and the like. In this case, a partial discharge phenomenon is accompanied. These partial discharge signals occur irregularly and various noise signals are included in the field, so it is difficult to evaluate the reliability in the development of the diagnostic system. In this paper, a study was made on equipment capable of generating a partial discharge simulated signal that can be adjusted in size and frequency to be applied to a diagnostic device by electromagnetic wave detection method. The PD simulated pulse generator consists of a user interface module, a high-voltage charging module, a pulse forming circuit, a voltage sensor and an embedded controller. In order to simulate the partial discharge phenomenon similar to the actual GIS, a discharge cell was designed and fabricated. The application of the prototype pulse generator to the commercialized PD diagnosis module confirmed that it can be used to evaluate the performance of the diagnostic device. It can be used for the development of GIS diagnosis system and performance verification for reliability evaluation.

  • We use the outer gap model to explain the spectrum and the energy dependent light curves of the X-ray and soft ${\gamma}$-ray radiations of the spin-down powered pulsar PSR B1509-58. In the outer gap model, most pairs inside the gap are created around the null charge surface and the gap's electric field separates the opposite charges to move in opposite directions. Consequently, the region from the null charge surface to the light cylinder is dominated by the outflow current and that from the null charge surface to the star is dominated by the inflow current. We suggest that the viewing angle of PSR B1509-58 only receives the inflow radiation. The incoming curvature photons are converted to pairs by the strong magnetic field of the star. The X-rays and soft ${\gamma}$-rays of PSR B1509-58 result from the synchrotron radiation of these pairs. The magnetic pair creation requires a large pitch angle, which makes the pulse profile of the synchrotron radiation distinct from that of the curvature radiation. We carefully trace the pulse profiles of the synchrotron radiation with different pitch angles. We find that the differences between the light curves of different energy bands are due to the different pitch angles of the secondary pairs, and the second peak appearing at E > 10 MeV comes from the region near the star, where the stronger magnetic field allows the pair creation to happen with a smaller pitch angle.

  • This paper presents the detailed statistics on radiation field signatures associated with multiple-intracloud lightning discharges. A transient signal recording system was used to measure the electric and magnetic fields produced by lightning flashes. The measurements were made in th summers of 1995 through 1999, and the location of the observation station was in Inchon on the coast of the Yellow Sea in Korea(37$^{\circ}$25'N, 126$^{\circ}$ 39'E). Most of lightning flashes typically contains between two and five strokes. The individual intracloud stork radiation fields were the bipolar pulse. On the average, the ratio of the peak of the second stroke to the first stroke peak was 75.1$\pm$40.1% for the negative, and a fraction of the subsequent stroke peaks were higher than the first stroke peak. The greater the number of the subsequent stroke order, less time separations between strokes were produced. The mean of the depth of the dip was 81.2$\pm$27.9% for the positive polarity and 75.9$\pm$24.4% for the negative. The depth of the dip increased for the positive bipolar pulses and decreased for the negative as the number of the stroke order increased.

  • Breakdown voltage model and expertiments are compared for discharge cells of AC plasma display panel. In the model, discharge paths are assumed to be initial electric field lines and the one-dimensional continuity equation is applied to the charged particle transport at each field line. The comparisons are performed in the wide range of gas pressure (50-600torr), Xe partial pressure over total pressure (1-6%), sustain electrode gap(100-1000$\mu\textrm{m}$), wall height(130, 300$\mu\textrm{m}$), and voltage pulse width(2-6${\mu}$s). The presented breakdown voltage model well agree with experiments in the above wide range. The increase of breakdown voltage with the decrease of the width(L) of protruding electrode is also described by the model.

  • Multipactor-free S-band duplexer based on inter-digital cavity type filter is proposed and demonstrated by in-house mulitpactor test facility for satellite RF components. Multipactor sensitivity of designed duplexer is analyzed by checking it out the maximum field accumulated region inside duplexer and calculating the electric field intensities at each resonator using 3D EM simulation in order to restrict the minimum gap distance as 2.5 mm which handles 43.13 dBm RF input power. Multipactor threshold was finally detected at 44 dBm in experiment for pulse mode test. The developed multipactor test method is cost effective, simple structure and gives a good agreement compared with the previous high cost MP test methodologies.

  • We demonstrate the first separation of neutral molecules using optical forces. Unlike laser atomic cooling or optical tweezers, optical separation technique requires the manipulation of only one component of the molecular motion. Thus the mixtures can be separated, in principle, with less complex schemes. When an Intense nonresonant laser beam is focused onto a beam of molecules, the interaction between the laser electric field and the induced dipole moment of a molecule invokes a mechanical force on the molecule proportional to the field gradient and the molecular polarizability ($\alpha$) to mass (m) ratio $\alpha$/m. • Lethal effects of high voltage pulsed electric fields (PEF) on suspensions of Lactobacillus plantarum cells in phosphate buffer solution were examined by using continuous recycle treatment system. Critical electric field strength and treatment time needed for inactivation of L. plantarum were 13.6 kV/cm and $16.1\;{\mu}s$ at room temperature, respectively. As decrease in frequency (decreasing pulse number), the degree of inactivation of L. plantarum was increased. A 2.5 log reduction in microbial population could be achieved with an electric field strength of 80 kV/cm, 300 Hz frequency and $2000\;{\mu}s$ treatment time. Survivability was decreased with increase in total treatment time (cycle number) and frequency at the same cycle number. As sterilization model of continuous recycle PEF treatment, $logS=-N_m\;log\;m+B$ and $N_m=k_1\;P_n+k_2$ were established. This model was very well fitted to tile empirical data. The rate of inactivation increased with increase in the processing temperature. The maximum reduction in survivability (5.6 log reduction) was obtained with 80 kV/cm electric field strength at $50^{\circ}C$ for $1000\;{\mu}s$ treatment.
