  • This paper proposes a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) controller design technique using intelligent digital redesign. Intelligent digital redesign is to convert a well-designed analog fuzzy-model-based controller into an equivalent pulse-amplitude-modulation (PAM) digital controller maintaining the original analog control system in the sense of state-matching. In similar line of conversion concept, the redesigned PAM intelligent digital controller is converted into a PWM controller using the equivalent area principle. To convincingly visualize the proposed technique, an computer simulation example-attitude control of nonlinear artificial satellite system is included.

  • In this paper, a composition modulation of Dot-matrix display grayscale is presented. There's two method of expression of Dot-matrix Display grayscale. One is PWM by controlling pulse width. The other is PAM by controlling pulse amplitude. Composition modulation of Dot-matrix use PWM and PAM together. Composition modulation shows the number of grayscale as number of grayscale of PWM$\times$number of grayscale of PAM and have the effect of reduced size than existing single modulation.

  • User cooperation provides high reliability in wireless communication systems by employing relay nodes to transmit the same information. In this paper, a bit error rate (BER) study is presented for decode-and-forward (DF) relaying for user cooperation in independent and identically distributed Rayleigh fading channels. For an arbitrary number of relays, exact and closed-form expressions of the BER are proposed for M-ary PAM (Pulse Amplitude Modulation), QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) and PSK (Phase Shift Keying), respectively. It is also shown that the analytic results are perfectly matched with the simulated ones.

  • In many applications of power electronics, high frequency resonant inverters are used, and the PAM(Pulse Amplitude Modulation), PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation) or PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) techniques are used to control the output power of resonant inverters. And the resonant inverters have to control the output frequency for the reliable operation under the variable load conditions. In this paper, a new switching scheme is proposed as a PWM control of resonant inverters. With the proposed method, it can be obtained that optimum resonant frequency and unity output displacement factor under the variable resonant frequency adaptively. The detail algorithm or the proposed PWM switching scheme and its output characteristics are discussed. And the veridity of the proposed method is confirmed with the experimental results.

  • This article presents a novel cooperative spectrum sharing (CSS) scheme. The primary transmitter transmits a complex Quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signal in the first phase, and CSS occurs in the second phase. The secondary transmitter with the largest forwarding channel gain among the nodes that successfully decode the primary signal in the first phase is selected for CSS. This selected node employs a pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM) signal for primary information message (IM) instead of the QAM signal, and it employs a modified PAM signal for the secondary IM. The proposed modified PAM signal depends on the amplitude of the primary PAM signal. This method results in no mutual interference and negligible primary interference constraint and allows a higher degree of exploitation of spatial diversity, thus enabling increase in secondary power to improve primary transmission. The outage performance is enhanced in both the primary and secondary systems. The critical region, in which the primary outage performance is enhanced with the proposed CSS scheme, can be adjusted and widened by varying either the modulation cooperation sharing factor or the number of secondary transmitters.

  • In this paper, the performance improvement of ultra-wideband (UWB) communications system to achieve high-data-rate using spatial diversity provided by multiple receive antennas is investigated. We derive the expression for the received SINR after spatially combining through multiple receive antennas and evaluate the bit error rate (BER) performance by numerical simulation. We also compare the performance results in the case of 2PPM systems with the theoretical performance results in the case of 2PAM THMA UWB systems. The impacts of spatial diversity on the performance of 2PPM and 2PAM THMA UWB systems are analyzed. It is shown that the BER performance is improved as the number of receive antennas increases. Also, it is observed that in the presence of multiple user interference signals, the performance of 2PAM THMA UWB systems is considerably superior to that of 2PPM THMA UWB systems.

  • In this paper, the performance of double binary turbo code is analyzed and simulated in ultra wide-band (UWB) systems employing multiple-antenna scheme. We consider both pulse position modulation-time hopping (PPM-TH) and pulse amplitude modulation-direct sequence (PAM-DS) UWB systems. The space time block code (STBC) scheme is adopted as a transmit diversity method. Also, receive diversity scheme is applied. And double binary turbo code is applied to the UWB system.

  • The signal processing algorithm for a PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) using amplitude modulation/demodulation is addressed in this paper. Dark currents and external noises such as daylight and fluorescent lights are eliminated by using amplitude modulation/demodulation and a low pass filter. The proposed amplitude modulation/demodulation method for a PSD sensor is compared with pulse amplitude modulation method. The proposed amplitude modulation is proved to be more accurate and robust than PAM method by analysis and experiments. Multiple measurements using one PSD sensor by amplitude modulation/demodulation is also addressed. The Power variation of light source is compensated by normalization process using a divider.
