  • Recently, with the implementation of the "e-Government Performance Management Guidelines," there is a growing demand for setting performance indicators for information systems. For systems that provide information services to the public, such as CODIL, it is not easy to set performance indicators. This study presented a research model that applies Monte Carlo simulation to set expected performance targets that can be achieved through CODIL based on objective evidence. Among the survey contents conducted from 2015 to 2023, the statistical characteristics of user satisfaction regarding the frequency of use of construction technology information provided by CODIL were designated as input variables. Future expected targets and confidence intervals from 2024 to 2026 were designated as outcome variables. The expected target value was measured by generating 5 simulation alternatives and 1,000 random numbers for each alternative. Next, the measured expected goals were interpreted and compared with the results of time series regression analysis measured in previous studies. Although, as in previous studies, the expected target value could not be predicted based on time series regression analysis that considers the correlation between years. However, compared to previous studies, this study can be considered a more accurate analysis result because it predicted the expected target value based on 5,000 input variables.

  • RIKEN BioResource Center (BRC) has collected, preserved, conducted quality control of, and distributed mouse resources since 2002 as the core facility of the National BioResource Project by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan. Our mouse resources include over 5,000 strains such as humanized disease models, fluorescent reporters, and knockout mice. We have developed novel mouse strains such as tissue-specific Cre-drivers and optogenetic strains that are in high demand by the research community. We have removed all our specified pathogens from the deposited mice and used our quality control tests to examine their genetic modifications and backgrounds. RIKEN BRC is a founding member of the Federation of International Mouse Resources and the Asian Mouse Mutagenesis and Resource Association, and provides mouse resources to the one-stop International Mouse Strain Resource database. RIKEN BRC also participates in the International Gene Trap Consortium, having registered 713 gene-trap clones and their sequences in a public library, and is an advisory member of the CREATE (Coordination of resources for conditional expression of mutated mouse alleles) consortium which represents major European and international mouse database holders for the integration and dissemination of Cre-driver strains. RIKEN BRC provides training courses in the use of advanced technologies for the quality control and cryopreservation of mouse strains to promote the effective use of mouse resources worldwide.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore usefulness of the Library of Congress Subject Headings(LCSH)for librarians as an information access point. Sixty four librarians at the University of Washington(UW)and 67 librarians from the Council on East Asian Libraries(CEAL) participated through web surveys about LCSH and 9 librarians from UW and 10 librarians from CEAL joined in-depth interviews and e-mail correspondences. It was concluded that LCSH was very useful for finding other related materials as a subject access point. However, there were two necessary improvements recommended for the LCSH. First of all, in aspect of terminology, subject headings should be more familiar to the public with currency and show clear definitions and relationships. Second, with regard to the structure of LCSH, it should have simplicity, ease of use, and consistency when using combinations of subject headings. Since many other countries are using or adapting LCSH, its effect can be very strong. Therefore, the meaning of "Tok Island (Korea)" as well as diplomatic and scholarly efforts with sensing movements of other countries.

  • Currently, the group study becomes the most popular method and common custom for learning in public that is distinctly different from the preferred way of self-study in the last decades. As a result, the college and public facilities have been significantly changed to provide more and more new spaces for discussion, learning and sharing information with others as one of the remarkable improvements and advantages. On the other hands, library is one of the all-important public sites to obtain information and knowledge for students. Moreover, we can split out an individual space from the reading rooms to take part in the group activities such as group meetings and academic exchanges. Recently, several universities begin to recognize the value of group study and try to meet the research needs. Also, needs for students, and the group study rooms are applied into the new buildings and rebuilt ones under this background. In this study, It focuses on analyzing of the 134 group study rooms to investigate the variations in universities and classify the types of buildings with site researches through 14 indicators of indoor environments. To investigate different types of group study rooms, we use the SD method to analyze the findings. So far there is no research focusing on the study rooms, especially for the analysis of their types and indoor environments features. Therefore, this article can provide a theoretical basis and evidence to related researches; also can help us to improve indoor environments to offer a better learning environments for the students in the future.

The survey used a questionnaire with 14 questions on 6 items concerning the various aspects of the circulation system in 82 libraries responded among 85 college & university libraries as of 1981. The survey results discovered many problems needing improvement. The following list describes the measures needed to better the problems found in the survey results of 82 libraries. 1. 67.1% of the libraries shows the restricted volumes loaning less than 2 volumes, and 81.7% of the libraries shows the loan periods less than a week, but it is desirable to extend them, when comparing with the size of holdings and the higher educational system at present. 2. It is desirable that the number of a staff in charge of circulation works places one person per average 75-85 books borrowed a day, when calculating an adequate number of the staff on the basis of the correlation between books borrowed a day and number of the staff. 3. 59.8% of the libraries does not have reserved book system, but it is desirable to take it for increasing reliability about the circulation services. 4. More than half of the libraries takes a method of a public announcement on a notice-board for claims of overdue books, but it is desirable to send a claim notice to the individual in viewpoint of keeping their privacies. 5. More than half of the libraries to take the open access system uses a call slip, but it is desirable not to use it in viewpoint of simplicity and economical efficiency of the charging system, because of demanding the unnecessary records. 6. Most of libraries shows many problems of the charging system, especially in factors of the records and filing system, but it is desirable to improve it on the basis of 4 basic factors of the charging system, that is, simplicity, economical efficiency, promptitude and accuracy.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of assigning book numbers and the perceptions of librarians who assign the book numbers at two National Libraries, nine Regional Central Libraries and Jeongdok Public Library in Korea. Based upon the analysis, a better method to assign book numbers for the libraries was suggested. The most serious problem was the length of the book numbers due to the duplication of book numbers and lack of intuitiveness. Therefore, this study suggested a user-oriented way of assigning book numbers based upon combining the name of the author and the year of the publication.
