  • Perspective taking, one's knowledge of their own mental and emotional states and inferences about others' mental and emotional states, is an important higher order cognitive skill required in successful writing. However, there has not been much research on the identification and examiantion of the psychometrics of perspective taking. To fill in this gap, I reviewed the psychological and cognitive frameworks of perspective taking including theory of mind, audience awareness, development of epistemological understanding, and argumentation schema. I also reviewed various methods of examining the psychometric properties of perspective taking in written composition, including both manual and computational approaches. The review of literature yielded suggestions on the development of manual coding scheme for perspective taking as well as the selection of indexes to draw from natural language processing tools. Challenges and affordances of combining the manual and computational approach are discussed along with future research directions to advance the field of psycholinguistics.

This was to examine the relationship between psychological and environmental factors, and the value of children to mothers with young children. The participants of this study were 237 mothers, who had young children. Descriptive statistics, t-test, F-test, and Pearson's correlation analysis were used for data analysis. The results were as follows: First, the value of children was different according to the child's factors (gender and number of children in the family, etc.), the mother's factors (age and education, etc), and the family's factors (household income and cost of bringing up the child). Second, familism is related to emotional value and instrumental value, parenting efficacy is related to emotional value and social value, children's temperament is related to emotional value, and the value of children from mother's reference group is related to emotional value and instrumental value, social value, and burdensome value. As for the implication of these findings, value of children from mother's reference groups is important for changing the value of children of the mothers with young children.

  • This study analyzes the experiences of a color therapy program that uses color and fashion directing to influence the psychological characteristics of adolescents, such as emotional intelligence, self-efficacy, and color expression. The subjects of this study were 15 adolescents who participated in B-City Winter School (January 6-15, 2020). Pre- and post-tests for emotional intelligence and self-efficacy were conducted to confirm the effect of the color therapy program that indicated a significant difference at the p<.05 level. Statistical significance was confirmed through the GEE model for formal characteristics used in pre/post and fashion-directed color expression. Peter pre- and post-changes in vocabulary emergence were investigated with a Word Cloud analysis using R program 4.0.2 that extracted the lower and upper categories. The significance of this study is that by expressing both color expression and fashion direction together, a program was provided for adolescents to have richer emotional experiences and career-related experiences. This study examined changes within a short period of time in 15 subjects; consequently, a follow-up in-depth qualitative analysis of the program effect and a post-testing study on maintaining the long-term effect is expected to secure further validity and usefulness of the study results. In addition, new studies are expected to contribute to the development of differentiated fashion-related education programs.

  • Suicide is a behavior that is intended to cause death by itself and requires medical treatment, resulting in suicidal attempt or completion. Suicide causes loss of life, damages the body, costs a lot of medical expenses, and causes families to fall into sorrow and suffering therefore this suicide is a huge loss to family and society. There have been attempts to reduce and prevent suicide by understanding the mechanism of suicide. The mechanism of suicide can be thought of as psychological mechanism and biological mechanism. In the past, if we considered the psychological and biological mechanisms separately, the development of neuroscience now connects and integrates these two. Psychological factors affect biological factors and biological temperaments also affect perception or thinking about the situation and increase psychological vulnerability. Distant factors in suicidal behavior-such as childhood adversity and family and genetic predisposition-increase the lifetime risk of suicide. They alter the response to stress and other processes through changes in gene expression and regulation of emotional and behavioral characteristics. Distant factors affect the biological system and consequently changes in these systems can increase the risk of suicide. In other words, the distal factor does not directly induce suicidal behavior but rather acts indirectly through developmental or mediating factors. These mediating factors are impulsive aggressive and anxious trait, and chronic use of substances. The mechanism of this disorder is the abnormality of the serotonin system and the abnormality of the lipid level. Proximal factors are associated with the onset of suicide events and include changes in the major neurotransmitter systems, inflammatory changes, and dysfunction of glial cells in the brain. A series of studies, including a variety of research methods and postmortem and in-vivo imaging studies, show the impairment of the serotonergic neurotransmitter system and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis stress response system for suicidal behavior. These disorders lead to suicidal behavior due to difficulty in cognitive control of mood, pessimism, reactive aggression, abnormality in problem solving abilities, excessive response to negative social signals, severe emotional distress, and cognitive dysregulation of suicidal ideation.

  • This study aims to identify research trends and explore the latest methods of applying aromatherapy to the elderly. The main objective is to provide evidence in support of development of an aromatherapy nursing intervention program for the elderly. This investigation is in the form of a literature review focusing on the current status and trends in research conducted on aromatherapy intervention programs for the elderly in Korea over past decade. Published studies were identified through database such as KCI, RISS, DBpia, NDSL. A total 14 studies were selected for this review. The majority of selected articles fall within the field of nursing. The duration of the programs varied, ranging from less than 20 minutes to over 40 minutes, and consisted of 1 to 6 sessions. Most of methods involved massages using lavender oil in a hospital setting. Outcome variables were categorized into three main domains based on significance: psychological-emotional, interpersonal relationship, and physical-physiological. The variables within each category varied with 4 in psychological-emotional, 1 in interpersonal relationship, and 17 in physical-physiological. This review indicates that aromatherapy intervention programs have positive effects on the elderly and suggests the potential for developing similar interventions on a broader scale within community settings in the future.

The effectiveness of psychological skills training has been evaluated with 6 questionnaires and EEG measurement. The result was that psychological skills training had improved coping with adversity, peaking under pressure, and concentration, self-management and reduced anxiety of Korean national wheelchair curling player. The result was that the EEG inter-hemispheric asymmetry index showed negative emotional states before psychological skill training but positive emotional states after. The result implies that psychological skill training plays an important mediating role in bringing about positive effects in the psychological elements and competitiveness in national wheelchair curling players.
