  • This paper is to study on rating system of some shrubs for pedestrian control with concentrate upon the density of branch. It was usd that Hibiscus syricacus L., Spiraea prunifolia var. simpliciflora Nak, Ligustrum obtusifolium S. et Z., Callicarpa dichotoma Raeusch., Rhoododendron mucrionulatum Turcz., Syringa vulgaris L., Weigela subsessilis L. H. Bailey, Cercis chinensis bunge, Forsythia koreana Nak., Euonymus alatus Sieb, Chaenomeles speciosa Nak., orbaria sorbifolia var. stellipila Max., Deutzia parviflora Bunge, Kerria japonica De Candolle, Prunus tomentosa Thunberg ex Murray, Purunus grandulosa for. albiplena Koehne. Shrubs are invesitgated ito the density of branch, the power of sprout, height, a rate of growth, hardness of naturalizaton, crown width and existence of thorns. Shrubs belonged to high group of rating system for pedestrian control were Euonymus alatus Sieb, Purunus grandulosa for. albiplena Koehne, Chaenomeles speciosa Nak., Spiraea prunifolia var. simpliciflora Nak., Prunus tomentosa Thunberg ex Murray, Rhododendron mucronulatum Turcz., Hibiscus syricacus L., Ligustrum obtusifolium S. et Z., Syringa vulgaris L., Weigela subsessilis L.H.Bailey.

Inhibitory Effect of Ethanol Extract and Juice of the Korean Cherry (Prunus tomentosa Thunberg) on Tyrosinase Activity In vitro (앵두과즙과 Ethanol 추출액의 In vitro에서 Tyrosinase 활성 저해효과)

  • To develop a functional beverage from Korean cherry (Prunus tomentosa Thunberg), inhibition effect of ethanol extract and juice of the korean cherry on melanin systhesis and tyrosinase activity in vitro was investigated. Inhibition ratio of tyrosinase activity increased as the concentration of solid of korean cherry juice increased, and inhibition affect was high in initiation step of enzyme reaction and then gradually decreased. Inhibition ratio of tyrosinase activity was high in the 70% (v/v) ethanol extract of the cherry and the highest in the ethyl acetate fraction of the 70% (v/v) ethanol extract. Ultimatly, the amounts of functional matter (melanin synthesis inhibitor) in the cherry was highest in ethyl acetate fraction of the ethanol extract.

Lipid Composition and Protein Pattern of Prunus Tomentosa Thunberg Seed (앵두(Prunus Tomentosa Thunberg)씨의 지방질 조성 및 단백질 패턴)

  • Prunus tomentosa Thunberg seed was investigated to evaluate its possibility for use as food resources of fats and proteins. The seed contained 40.38% of crude fat and 26.59% of crude protein. The lipid fractions obtained by silicic acid column chromatography were mainly composed of 95.49% of neutral lipids, whereas compound lipids were only 4.51%. Among the neutral lipid components by thin-layer chromatography, triglycerides were 89.86%, sterols, monoglycerides, sterol esters, free fatty acids and diglycerides were 4.14%, 2.98%, 1.77%, 1.07%, and 0.18%, respectively. Oleic acid (65.06-66.05%) and linoleic acid (26.56-28.40%) were the main fatty acids in the total lipid, neutral lipid and triglyceride fractions. In the glycolipid and phospholipid fractions, predominant fatty acids were oleic acid (40.55-51.46%), linoleic acid (20.26-30.89%) and palmitic acid (17.64-21.43%). The extractability of salt soluble protein of seed was 60%, and recovery rate of main protein fraction separated by Sephadex G-200 was about 46.5%. The electrophoretic analysis showed 7 bands in seed protein.

Flavonoids and Antimicrobial Activity of the Ethanol Extract of Korean Cherry (Prunus tomentosa Thunberg) (앵두 Ethanol 추출물의 항균력과 Flavonoid)

  • Quantitaties of flavonoids were determined by HPLC in three different ethanol extract (50, 70 and 95%, v/v) from Korean cherry. Antimicrobial activity of the ethanol extract and its solvent fraction (ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions) against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538) and Staphylococcus epidermidis (ATCC 12228) was evaluated using MIC and disk test. Additionally, UV protective effect was also determined. The highest flavonoid quantity was found in 70% ethanol extract of Korean cherry. The quantities of quercitrin were 12.7 mg% and 2.1 mg% in ethyl acetate fraction and in buthanol fraction, respectively. In addition, the flavonoid in 70% (v/v) ethanol extract of Korean cherry included 14.9 mg% of quercitrin, 6.0 mg% of tannic acid and 5.2 mg% of catechin. Therefore, it was confirmed that main flavonoid of Korean cherry was quercitrin. For antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract of Korean cherry against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538) and Staphylococcus epidemidis (ATCC 12228), MIC and disk test using ethyl acetate fraction and butanol fraction were carried out. As a result, ethyl acetate fraction with higher quantity of flavonoid showed higher antimicrobial activity. Therefore, it was confirmed that the higher antimicrobial activity was brought about by flavonoid in Korean cherry. For UV protective effect of Korean cherry, ethanol extract showed the absorption zone of ultraviolet rays in 210∼380 nm including 290∼320 nm that is the wave length of UV-B harmful to the skin of human body. The pattern is the same as the absorption zone of 220∼300 nm in catechin and 210∼400 nm in quercitrin. Then, the functionalities of catechin and quercitrin were anticipated. It is expected that quercitrin in Korean cherry has the antimicrobial effect and UV protective effect related to the skin.
