  • The advancement of network & application technology causes a major change for the use of IT(Information Technology) equipment, including computer and mobile system. In the process from beginning with main frame in the 1960s and 70's, through the server-client paradigm in the 1980s and toward the development of network computer since 90's, computer systems are now evolutioning from isolated physical system to complementary network based virtual system[1][2]. In network based computer system, application and data required for operation are stored at not client as local system, but at server[1]. User can use application & data on a server as if those are on a local client, and a client is now toward a developing thin and network friendly system. In this paper, we discuss possible ways for the efficient implementation of thin-client. For the use of remote application & data as if in local environment, we make use of X protocol. Unlike formal simple Client - Server paradigm, we design a Proxy for middle-tier server for the improvement of QoS and session persistence. X server, Xvfb(X virtual frame buffer) are implemented on thin client and Server, respectively and we applied XSMP(X Session Management Protocol) to our framework for session management. In the end, beyond simple transfer of server display, we suggest thin client framework for the transfter of remote server application over internet.

  • The PMIPv6 is a network controlled mobility management protocol in which mobile nodes never participate in IP mobility protocol signaling. One issue in using PMIPv6 for multicast service is that a new component should be added as the mobility management functions are located not on the device but on the network. Currently, standardization activities for providing muticast services with PMIPv6 have been actively in progress. This paper addresses some issues about the on-going standardization works for providing efficient real-time multicast services with PMIPv6, and proposes a scheme for minimizing hand over delays and packet losses by using a new neighbor cell reporting method. The proposed scheme has been verified to outperform the existing scheme in hand over delay and packet loss perfonnrmces by using computer simulations.

  • This paper proposes a new agent based mechanism called a Multicast Handoff Agent (MHA) to reduce handoff latency for IP multicast. The MHA acts as a proxy for an Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) of Mobile Nodes (MNs) at each Base Station (BS) and keeps information for members of multicast groups in a cell. When an MN moves to a next cell, the MHA immediately sends unsolicited reports without waiting for the IGMP query. The mechanism was evaluated through simulation and analysis and compared with the IGMPv2 for micro-mobility and the IGMP traffic. Simulation results show that handoff latency for micro-mobility can be largely reduced and the IGMP control traffic on the wireless links during the duration of membership can be eliminated. Thus, this mechanism is superior to the existing mechanism in both micro-mobility and battery duration, as the need not to reply to a query conserves battery power.

  • Explosive growth of smartphone-based mobile nodes has increased exponentially the mobile data traffic on the Internet. To reduce the traffic load on the network and to support the seamless mobility of the mobile nodes, the IETF and 3GPP have standardized a number of mobility management mechanisms. More recently, they are making an effort to find some schemes to distribute the networking systems that involve in the mobility management in order to assure the scalability and the reliability of the network. In IETF, DMM concept for the distributed mobility management on the Internet is being discussed. Specifically, the DMM can be classified into the partially distributed management and fully distributed management. In this paper, we propose a fully distributed mobility management scheme (FuDMM) on PMIPv6-based network by applying the extended NDP. We also present the performance of FuDMM using the comparative analysis with the existing ones.

  • Wireless mesh networks(WMNs) are wireless backbone networks technology consisting of a multi-hop routers. Location management is essential to provide a service to the terminal in WMNs. IEEE 802.11s standards have two basic location management scheme for location management - the proxy registration procedure and the associated station discovery protocol. These basic schemes, however, suffer from serious drawbacks including redundancy control message, ineffective location information maintenance, additional delay time. This paper propose an on-demand station location management scheme using 6-address structure of IEEE 802.11s. Through analysis and experimental evaluation on simulation, we show that proposal scheme reduce control message and forwarding delay time.

  • Proxy mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6), which is a centralized mobility management protocol, are dependent on a local mobility anchor (LMA) to process all control and data traffics. Therefore, it has serious problems such as the tremendous traffic concentration into the core network and the triangle routing. In this paper, therefore, in order to alleviate these drawbacks, we propose a PMIPv6-based enhanced distributed mobility management scheme considering a user's traffic locality. Performance evaluation results indicate that in most cases, except for when a user's mobility rate is relatively very higher than the traffic rate, the proposed scheme shows better performance result than that of PMIPv6. Besides, it is demonstrated that the proposed scheme can be an effective alternative that can distribute the significant loads on the LMA of the core networks to the MAGs of the edge networks.

  • Recently, the mobility of users and mobile communication technologies have developed rapidly. The users in this state also want to connect their devices and to receive services anywhere, anytime. Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) has been proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to compensate for such problems as handover latency and signaling overhead when employing Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6). HMIPv6 supports micro-mobility within a domain and introduces a new entity, namely Mobility Anchor Point (MAP) as a local home agent. However, HMIPv6 has been found to cause longer handover latency when the inter-domain handover occurs. This is because a Mobile Node (MN) has to generate two addresses and register them to Home Agent (HA) a MAP, respectively. In order to solve such problems, we propose a scheme that an MN generates one address and registers it to HA for supporting fast handover during the inter-domain handover process. In the proposed scheme, the load of MAP and MAP domain is reduced because the number of MNs which are managed by MAP is decreased and the MAP does not perform proxy Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP) to intercept packets destined to MNs. We evaluate the performance of proposed scheme in comparison to HMIPv6 through the simulation and numerical analysis.

  • Machine to machine (M2M) communications is the hottest issue in the standardization and industry area, it is also defined as machine-type communication (MTC) in release 10 of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). Recently, most research have focused on congestion control, sensing, computing, and controlling technologies and resource management etc., but there are few studies on security aspects. In this paper, we first introduce the threats that exist in M2M system and corresponding solutions according to 3GPP. In addition, we present several new security issues including group access authentication, multiparty authentication and data authentication, and propose corresponding solutions through modifying existing authentication protocols and cryptographic algorithms, such as group authentication and key agreement protocol used to solve group access authentication of M2M, proxy signature for M2M system to tackle authentication issue among multiple entities and aggregate signature used to resolve security of small data transmission in M2M communications.

  • IP-based Wireless Sensor Networks (IP-WSNs) are gaining importance for their broad range of applications in health-care, home automation, environmental monitoring, industrial control, vehicle telematics and agricultural monitoring. In all these applications, mobility in the sensor network with special attention to energy efficiency is a major issue to be addressed. Because of the energy inefficiency of networks-based mobility management protocols can be supported in IP-WSN. In this paper we propose a network based mobility supported IP-WSN protocol called Multicasting-based inter-Domain Mobility Management Scheme in Sensor-based Fast Proxy Mobile IPv6 Networks (mSFP). Based on [8,20], We present its network architecture and evaluate its performance by considering the signaling and mobility cost. Our analysis shows that the proposed scheme reduces the signaling cost, total cost, and mobility cost. With respect to the number of IP-WSN nodes, the proposed scheme reduces the signaling cost by 7% and the total cost by 3%. With respect to the number of hops, the proposed scheme reduces the signaling cost by 6.9%, the total cost by 2.5%, and the mobility cost by 1.5%. With respect to the number of IP-WSN nodes, the proposed scheme reduces the mobility cost by 1.6%.

  • Conditional Access System (CAS) is a core security mechanism of IPTV SCP (Service and Content Protection) which enables only authenticated user to be able to watch the broadcasting contents. In the past, it was general that CAS was built in Set-Top Box (STB) as hardware or as a detachable cable card. However, numerous researches in Downloadable CAS (DCAS), where users can download CAS code in their STB through their network, have been recently conducted widely due to the lack of security and scalability problem. In this paper, the security requirements of OpenCable based DCAS which is typical example of downloadable IPTV SCP will be derived, the novel authentication and key management scheme will be proposed by using the Authentication Proxy (AP) which is the core DCAS. Also, the benefits of the proposed system will be evaluated by comparison and analysis with preceding research.
