Preliminary design of control software for SDSS-V Local Volume Mapper Instrument

  • The Local Volume Mapper(LVM) project in the fifth iteration of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-V) will produce large integral-field spectroscopic survey data to understand the physical conditions of the interstellar medium in the Milky Way, the Magellanic Clouds, and other local-volume galaxies. We are developing the LVM Instrument control software. The architecture design of the software follows a hierarchical structure in which the high-level software packages interact with the low-level and mid-level software and hardware components. We adopt the spiral software development model in which the software evolves by iteration of sequential processes, i.e., software requirement analysis, design, code generation, and testing. This spiral model ensures that even after being commissioned, the software can be revised according to new operational requirements. We designed the software by using the Unified Modeling Language, which can visualize functional interactions in structure diagrams. We plan to use the SDSS software framework CLU for the interaction between components, based on the RabbitMQ that implemented the Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP).

Real-time wireless marine radioactivity monitoring system using a SiPM-based mobile gamma spectroscopy mounted on an unmanned marine vehicle

  • Marine radioactivity monitoring is critical for taking immediate action in case of unexpected nuclear accidents at nuclear facilities located near coastal areas. Especially when the level of contamination is not predictable, mobile monitoring systems will be useful for wide-area ocean radiation survey and for determination of the level of radioactivity. Here, we used a silicon photomultiplier and a high-efficiency GAGG crystal to fabricate a compact, battery-powered gamma spectroscopy that can be used in an ocean environment. The developed spectroscopy has compact dimensions of 6.5 × 6.5× 8 cm3 and weighs 560 g. We used LoRa, a low-power wireless protocol for communication. Successful data transmission was achieved within 1.4 m water depth. The developed gamma spectroscopy was able to detect radioactivity from a 137Cs point source (3.7 kBq) at a distance of 20 cm in water. Moreover, we demonstrated an unmanned radioactivity monitoring system in a real sea by combining unmanned surface vehicle with the developed gamma spectroscopy. A hidden 137Cs source (3.07 MBq) was detected by the unmanned system at a distance of 3 m. After successfully testing the developed mobile spectroscopy in an ocean environment, we believe that our proposed system will be an effective solution for mobile real-time marine radioactivity monitoring.

Comparative evaluation of Emblica officinalis as an etchant and an MMP inhibitor with orthophosphoric acid and chlorhexidine on the microshear bond strength of composite resin: an ex vivo study

  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate Emblica officinalis (Indian gooseberry or amla) as an acid etchant and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitor, and to compare its effect on the microshear bond strength of composite resin with orthophosphoric acid (OPA) and 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) as an acid etchant and MMP inhibitor, respectively. Materials and Methods: The etching effect and MMP-inhibiting action of amla on dentin samples were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and gelatin zymography, respectively. Dentinal slabs (3 mm thick) from 80 extracted human molars were divided into 10 and 20 samples to form 2 control groups and 3 experimental groups. Groups 1, 2, and 4 were etched with OPA and groups 3 and 5 with amla juice. An MMP inhibitor was then applied: CHX for group 2 and amla extract for groups 4 and 5. Groups 1 and 3 received no MMP inhibitor. All specimens received a standardized bonding protocol and composite resin build-up, and were subjected to microshear bond strength testing. The force at which the fracture occurred was recorded and statistically analyzed. Results: Amla juice had a similar etching effect as a self-etch adhesive in SEM and 100% amla extract was found to inhibit MMP-9 by gelatin zymography. The microshear bond strength values of amla were lower than those obtained for OPA and CHX, but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusions: Amla has a promising role as an acid etchant and MMP inhibitor, but further studies are necessary to substantiate its efficacy.

전자저울 접근제어 기술을 통한 이력번호 기반의 재고관리 IoT 시스템 (Traceability Number-Driven Livestock Inventory Management IoT System Utilizing Electronic Scale Access Control Technology)

  • 2014년 12월, 가축 및 축산물 이력 관리에 관한 법률이 제정되면서 소비자는 축산물 이력정보를 제공받게 되었다. 이러한 축산물이력제는 소비자들에게 먹거리에 대한 투명하고 공정한 정보를 제공하여 신뢰를 높일 수 있는 반면, 정육업계 관계자들에게는 이력 관리로 인한 업무 증가와 과태료 부담을 가져왔다. 본 논문에서는 판매자가 소비자에게 편리하게 축산물 이력정보를 제공할 수 있도록 이력번호 기반의 재고관리 IoT 시스템을 제안하였다. 저울 데이터를 관리하기 위한 전송 프로토콜을 분석하고 모바일 기기에서의 기능 테스트와 검증을 진행하였으며, 안드로이드 기반 기기에서 이력정보와 상품정보를 전자저울과 연동하고 동기화할 수 있도록 사용자 입장에서의 UI/UX를 고려한 디자인 설계와 시스템 기능을 구현하였다. 향후 제안된 방식은 기존 시장에서 사용자의 불편함을 최소화하고 생산 효율성을 향상시킬 것으로 기대된다.

  • 본 연구는 최근 다양화, 대규화 되어가는 IoT시스템을 위한 시험기 개선에 관한 것으로 IoT성능시험기의 패킷 처리 성능개선, 트래픽 프로토콜 생성과 동작에 유연성을 확보하는 방안에 대한 것이다. 본 연구의 목표는 고도화되어 가는 대용량 IoT 네트워크 시스템에서 데이터 트래픽 전송의 안정성을 사전에 검증하고 성능을 측정하는 개방형 소프트웨어인 DPDK기반 고속 IoT 네트워크 성능시험 시스템을 설계하는 것이다. DPDK 기반 트래픽 발생기를 이용하여 고속 IoT 성능시험기의 기본 구성을 설계하였으며 실험을 통해 해당 시스템 적용시 트래픽 모델링하고 패킷생성능력의 기대효과를 제시하였다.

금속체 표면파 통신 기술의 선내 적용 방안에 관한 고찰 (A Consideration on the Application of Metal Surface Wave Communication Technology in the Ships)

  • 본 연구는 금속체 표면파 통신을 이용한 선내 통신 네트워크 구축을 위한 실증 결과이며, 이에 대한 선내 적용방안에 대한 고찰이다. 지난 3년간 5척의 선박을 대상으로 금속체 표면파 통신에 대한 적용 가능성을 확인하였으며, 소형 선박부터 중형선박까지 선내 밀폐 구역에 대한 표면파 통신의 실증을 통해 그 성능을 입증하였다. 통신방식은 IEEE 802.11 기반의 Wi-Fi 통신을 이용하여 무선신호를 표면파롤 전송하는 방식으로 진행하였으며, AP 기반의 데이터를 전송하고 AP - AP의 Point to Point 방식으로 전송속도를 측정하였으며, 표면파 통신이 도달되지 않은 구간은 중계기 AP를 추가하여 전송거리를 연장하는 방안으로 이용하였다. 총 5척의 선박을 통해 무선통신이 불가능한 구역에서 5~100Mbps의 전송속도를 도출함에 따라 선내 Back Bone network를 표면파 기반으로 이용하여 선내 중량 감소, 통신 케이블 구축에 따른 비용 절감이 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

감염병 대응 개인보호복의 동작성 및 열적 쾌적성: 보호 수준 및 여성 착용자 체격의 영향 (Mobility and Thermal Comfort Assessment of Personal Protective Equipment for Female Healthcare Workers: Impact of Protective Levels and Body Mass Index )

  • This study aimed to assess the mobility and thermal comfort of personal protective equipment (PPE) among female healthcare workers, taking into account wearers' physique and PPE protection levels. A total of 16 participants (age: 26.3 ± 8.3 y, height: 161.5 ± 7.3 cm, body weight: 57.1 ± 11.0 kg, BMI: 21.9 ± 3.6), representing diverse body types, underwent four PPE conditions: L (Low_Plastic gown ensemble), M (Medium_Tyvek 400), H (High_Tyvek 800J with Powered Air Purifying Respirator [PAPR]), and E (Extremely high_Tychem 2000 with PAPR, Bib apron, and Chemical-resistant gloves). The mobility protocol consisted of 10 different tasks in addition to donning and doffing. The 10 tasks were repeated twice at an air temperature of 24.3 ± 0.1℃, 59±4%RH. Findings revealed a disproportionate relationship between PPE protection and wearer discomfort. Significant differences in clothing microclimate and total sweat rate were observed between the lowest (L) and highest (E) protection levels (p < 0.01), while distinctions among medium levels were inconclusive. Subjective evaluations favored conditions H and L over M and E (p < 0.05), indicating reduced heat, and humidity, increased comfort, and lower exertion. Instances of mobility discomfort, specially in the small body type group, underscored the need for a suitable PPE size system for Korean adult female medical workers. Furthermore, enhancements in gloves, shoe cover, and PAPR hood designs are essential for improving ease of movement and preventing hindrance.

동적 신경근 안정화 운동이 노인들의 폐기능과 뇌파에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization Exercise on Pulmonary Function and Electroencephalogram in Elderly)

  • Purpose : After coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, many people around the world became aware of respiratory diseases and developed increased interest in health and exercise. As the elderly population grows larger, the prevalence of brain diseases and respiratory conditions increases. This study aimed to investigate the impact of dynamic neuromuscular stabilization (DNS) exercises on pulmonary function and electroencephalogram (EEG) findings in the elderly population. Methods : In this study, we measured the pulmonary function and performed EEG of 30 elderly individuals. The participants were randomly divided into an experimental group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). The experimental group completed a DNS exercise training protocol, while the control group performed simple exercise training. After the exercise, the pulmonary function and EEG testing were repeated, and the amounts of change within and between groups were determined. Results : In terms of pulmonary function, the experimental group's forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume at 1 second (FEV1) increased significantly after the exercise (p<.05), while the FVC differed significantly between groups (p<.05). In terms of EEG findings, the relative alpha waves significantly decreased in the F3 region (p<.05), while the relative beta waves significantly increased in the F4 region (p<.05). The relative gamma waves increased significantly in the Fp2 and P3 regions (p<.05), while the values in the F3 region differed significantly between groups (p<.05). Conclusion : DNS exercises performed by this elderly population demonstrated significant clinical value by providing fundamental data about both pulmonary function and EEG activity.

협심증이 의심되는 환자에서 운동부하검사로 유발되는 흉통의 양상과 생리적 변인에 관한 연구 (A study on characteristics and physiological variables of chest pain induced by exercise test in angina suspected patients)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics and physiological variables of chest pain induced by exercise test in angina suspected patients. The subjects of this study consisted of 28 inpatients and outpatients aged between 40 and 75 who underwent treadmill test at exercise testing laboratory of S-University from January 2000 to June 2000. Subjects were interviewed with questionnaire regarding sociodemography, the past health history and history related to chest pain before the exercise test. Subjects were interviewed with questionnaire concerning quality, intensity, duration of chest pain induced by walking on the treadmill(Marquette, U.S.A. 1992) according to Bruce protocol following exercise test. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure were measured before, during and after the test, heart rate was determined by ECG. The results of this study were as follows ; 1) Quality of chest pain induced by exercise test were feeling stiffness 19(67.9%), heavy 10(36.0%), exploded 9(32.1%), crushing, suffocating, tight 8(28.6%), stuffy, prickly 7(25.0%), burning 6(21.4%), clasp 5(17.9%), cleaved, tensed, piercing 3(10.7%), perfectly fitting, sore 2(7.1%), tearing, tingling, ticklish, heartburn 1(3.6%). 2) Mean score of VAS(intensity of pain) following exercise test was $5.79{\pm}2.27$ and mean duration of chest pain after the test was $7.83{\pm}5.31$ minutes. 3) Sites of chest-pain induced by exercise test were middle site 11(39.3%), left-chest 10(35.6%), right-chest 6(21.5%). Radiation site of chest-pain was neck(18.0%), right flank site 1(3.6%), left shoulder & arm 2(7.1%) and back 1(3.6%). 4) Symptoms other than chest-pain induced by exercise test were dyspnea 21(75.6%), perspiration 14(50.4%), fatigue 12(43.2%), leg-pain 11(39.6%), dizziness 7(25.2%) anxiety toward chest-pain 3(10.8%), thirst 2(7.1%), and palpation, headache and tingling sensation of hand and leg 1(3.6%). 5) Mean MET(intensity of exercise) during the exercise test was $7.64{\pm}2.57$ and mean RPE(rating of perceived exertion) was $15.89{\pm}2.36$. Mean duration of exercise was $6.79{\pm}2.88$. 6) correlation coefficients between RPE and VAS was 0.500(p=0.003), those between MET and VAS was 0.287(p=0.069) and those between either depression or elevation of ST segment and VAS was 0.236(p=0.114). 7) There was a significant difference in mean systolic pressure between before and after the test as $146.29{\pm}28.18mmHg$ and $177.96{\pm}28.82mmHg$(t=-5.640, p=0.000), a significant difference in mean diastolic blood pressure between before and after the test as $84.85{\pm}15.07mmHg$ and $88.89{\pm}13.72mmHg$(t=-2.082, p=0.047), and there was a significant difference in mean heart-rate between before and after the test as $81.89{\pm}12.22/min$ and $160.68{\pm}21.77/min$(t=-21.255, p=0.000).

젊은 정상성인의 비운동 VO2max 추정식 (Non-Exercise VO2max Estimation for Healthy Young Adults)

  • The purpose of this study was to produce the regression equation from non-exercise $VO_{2max}$ of healthy young adults and to develop a maximal oxygen consumption ($VO_{2max}$) regression model. This model was based on heart rate non-exercise predictor variables (rest heart rate, maximal heart rate/rest heart rate), as an extra addition to the general regression which can reflect an individual's inherent or acquired cardiorespiratory fitness. The subjects were 101 healthy young adults aged 19 to 35 years. Exercise testing was measured by using a Balke protocol for treadmill and indirect calorimetry. The prediction equation was analyzed by using stepwise multiple regression procedures. The mean of $VO_{2max}$ was $39.02{\pm}6.72\;m{\ell}/kg/min$ (mean${\pm}$SD). The greatest variable correlated to $VO_{2max}$ was %fat. The predictor variable used in the non-exercise $VO_{2max}$ included %fat, gender, habitual physical activity and $HR_{max}/HR_{rest}$. The non-exercise $VO_{2max}$ estimation was as follows: $VO_{2max}$($m{\ell}/kg/min$)=55.58-.41(%fat)+.59(physical activity rating)-2.69($HR_{max}/HR_{rest}$)-5.36 (male=0, female=1); (R=.85, SEE=3.64, R2=.72: including heart rate variable); $VO_{2max}$($m{\ell}/kg/min$)=48.47-.41(%fat)+.45(physical activity rating)-5.12 (male=0, female=1); (R=.84, SEE=3.74, R2=.70: with the exception of heart rate variable). As an added heart rate variable, there was only a 2% coefficient of determination improved. Therefore, these results demonstrated that heart rate variable correlation with a non-exercise regression model was very low. In conclusion, for healthy young korean adults, those variables that can affect non-exercise $VO_{2max}$ estimation turned out to be only % fat, gender, and physical activity. We suggest that further research of predictor variables for non-exercise $VO_{2max}$ is necessary for different patient groups who cannot perform maximal exercise or submaximal exercise.
