A linear form of reduced-order distillation model is proposed, which contains the physical properties of distillation process and can be used in real time applications. The proposed model is linear in terms of liquid mole fraction and contains some tuning parameters. To verify the applicability of the proposed model, the model identification using nonlinear filtering techniques was applied. As a result, it was found that this model represented the simulated distillation process very closely as the parameters were converged.

A numerical model for the solidification of binary mixture is proposed. Numerical model, which employs enthalpy method, is modified from Continuum model, that is, improved relation is proposed for the Enthalpy - Temperature - Concentration - Liquid Mass Fraction. One dimensional example was selected to verify the proposed model. The results show that the new relation can be applied successfully to the solidification or melting of binary mixture.
An accurate mathematical model of permanent magnet stepping motor is proposed. On the basis of this model, micro-stepping control is experimented. A comparison is made between the Data experimented by micro-stepping control and the data predicted by the proposed model and by Leenhouts' earlier model. The result shows that the proposed model is more accurate than the earlier model, and micro-stepping can be attained by dividing a given step electrically, without adding much complexity to the control circuit, or degrading the speed of stepping motors.
In this paper, we proposed a simplified strategy for the epipolarity of linear pushbroom imagery. The proposed strategy is verified on "Gupta and Hartly" sensor model and "Orun and Natarajan" sensor model. It is also compared with the precise epipolarity model of each sensor model on SPOT and KOMPSAT imagery. For the quantitative analysis, 20 ground control points are used as independent checking points. Based on the results, the accuracy of the proposed strategy is not different from that of the precise epipolarity model of each sensor model (below 0.1 pixels). Under the worst circumstance, the proposed strategy is robust. We can assure that the proposed strategy will show high accuracy on most of sensor models based on the co-linearity equations.
Understanding and classification of the human's emotion play an important tasks in interacting with human and machine communication systems. This paper proposes a novel emotion recognition method by extracting facial keypoints, which is able to understand and classify the human emotion, using active Appearance Model and the proposed classification model of the facial features. The existing appearance model scheme takes an expression of variations, which is calculated by the proposed classification model according to the change of human facial expression. The proposed method classifies four basic emotions (normal, happy, sad and angry). To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we assess the ratio of success with common datasets, and we achieve the best 93% accuracy, average 82.2% in facial emotion recognition. The results show that the proposed method effectively performed well over the emotion recognition, compared to the existing schemes.

This paper presents an evaluation model for the performance of Value Engineering Study (VES) for construction projects. The proposed model consists of 6 PEGs and 32 PEIs. The expertise of the proposed model was collected from VE experts in Taiwan using two-phase questionnaire survey. One real-life VES of construction projects was used to demonstrate how the proposed model works. The proposed model not only can be used by project owners to appraise the performance of VES team but also be used by the VES teams to conduct self-diagnosis, improvement, and motivation for achieving better performance. Additionally, the proposed model is capable of: (1) clarifying the defects of VES and avoiding committing same mistakes, (2) assisting inexperience team members to implement VES and catch the critical issues of a VES.

Exact impedance modeling of the electrode/electrolyte interface is important in bio-signal sensing electrode development. Therefore, the investigation of the equivalent circuit models for the interface has been pursued for a long time by several researchers. Previous circuit models fit the experimental results in limited conditions such as frequency range, type of electrode, or electrolyte. This paper describes a new electrical circuit model and its capability of fitting the experimental results. The proposed model consists of three resistors and two constant phase elements. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to characterize the interface for Au, Pt, and stainless steel electrode in 0.9% NaCl solution. Both the proposed model and the previous model were applied to fit the measured impedance results for comparison. The proposed model fits the experimental data more accurately than other models especially at the low frequency range, and it enables us to predict the impedance at very low frequency range, including DC, using the proposed model.

This paper addresses the design of sliding model fuzzy-model-based controller using genetic algorithms. In general, the construction of fuzzy logic controllers has difficulties for the lack of systematic design procedure. To release this difficulties, the sliding model fuzzy-model-based controllers was presented by authors. In this proposed method, the fuzzy model, which represents the local dynamic behavior of the given nonlinear system, is utilized to construct the controller. The overall controller consists of the local compensators which compensate the local dynamic linear model and the feed-forward controller which is designed via sliding mode control theory. Although, the stability and the performance is guaranteed by the proposed method, some design parameters have to be chosen by the designer manually. This problem can be solved by using genetic algorithms. The proposed method tunes the parameters of the controller, by which the reasonable accuracy and the control effort is achieved. The validity and the efficiency of the proposed method are verified through simulations.

In this paper, a new continuous~time small signal model of an average current mode control is proposed. Sampling effect Is considered to obtain the proposed small signal model. By the proposed model, the high frequency response characteristics of current loop gain might be predicted accurately compared to previous models. And this leads the prediction of inductor current response of the proposed model to be accurate compared to others. In order to show the usefulness of the proposed model, prediction results of the proposed model are compared to those of the circuit level simulator, PSIM and experiment.
Behavior of RC beam-column joint is very complex as the composite material behaves differently in elastic and inelastic range. The approaches generally used for predicting joint shear strength are either based on theoretical, strut-and-tie or empirical methods. These approaches are incapable of predicting the accurate response of the joint for entire range of loading. In the present study a new generalized RC beam-column joint shear strength model based on hybrid approach i.e. combined strut-and-tie and empirical approach has been proposed. The contribution of governing parameters affecting the joint shear strength under compression has been derived from compressive strut approach whereas; the governing parameters active under tension has been extracted from empirical approach. The proposed model is applicable for various conditions such as, joints reinforced either with or without shear reinforcement, joints with wide beam or wide column, joints with transverse beams and slab, joints reinforced with X-bars, different anchorage of beam bar, and column subjected to various axial loading conditions. The joint shear strength prediction of the proposed model has been compared with 435 experimental results and with eleven popular models from literature. In comparison to other eleven models the prediction of the proposed model is found closest to the experimental results. Moreover, from statistical analysis of the results, the proposed model has the least coefficient of variation. The proposed model is simple in application and can be effectively used by designers.
