  • Recently, ink-jet printing technology has been applied for various industries such as semiconductor, display, ceramic tile decoration. Ink-jet printing has advantages of high resolution patterning, fast printing speed, high ink efficiency and many attempts have been made to apply functional materials with excellent physical and chemical properties for the ink-jet printing process. Due to these advantages, research scope of ink-jet printing is expanding from conventional two-dimensional printing to three-dimensional printing. In order to expand the application of ink-jet printing, it is necessary to optimize the rheological properties of the ink and the interaction with the substrate. In this study, photo curable ceramic complex ink containing nano silica particles were synthesized and its printability was characterized. Contact angle of the photo curable silica ink were modified by control of the ink composition and the surface property of the substrate. Effects of contact angle on printing resolution and three-dimensional printability were investigated in detail.

  • In this study, we investigated interaction of Schwann cells (SCs) with various cell-adhesive coated polymer surface. We used cell-adhesives that like a fibronectin (FN), fibrinogen(FG), laminin(LM), vitronectin (VN), poly-D-Iysine (PDL), and poly-L-Iysine (PLL) to coat PLGA film surface and evaluated the surface property of coated or not PLGA films by measurement of water contact angle and ESCA. SCs were cultured on coated or non-coated PLGA film surface, and then examined the cell adhesion and proliferation by cell count and SEM observation. Cell count results revealed initial cell adhesion related to protein adsorption on PLGA surface. In addition, serum content in media related to cell proliferation rate. In this result, we recognized that adhesion and proliferation of SCs were affected by specific cell-adhesives. In these results, we recognized that is important to provide the suitable surface environment according to cell types and culture condition for improvement of cell adhesion and proliferation.

  • To investigate the effects of conjugated linoleic acid added diet feeding on CLA accumulation and quality characteristics of pork meat. The CLA used to add in diet was chemically synthesized by alkaline isomerization method with corn oil. Pigs were divided into 5 treatment groups(4 pigs/group) and subjected to one of five treatment diets(0, 1.25% CLA for 2 weeks, 2.5% CLA for 2 weeks, 1.25% CLA for 4 weeks and 2.5% CLA for 4 weeks, CLA diets; total fed diets) before slaughter. Pork loin were collected from the animals(110 kg body weight) slaughtering at the commercial slaughter house. Pork loin meat were aerobic packaged and then stored during 2, 5, 8, 11 and 14 days at 4$^{\circ}C$. Samples were analyzed for shear force value, texture, TBARS, fatty acid composition, cholesterol and CLA content. CLA treatment groups showed significantly(p〈0.05) higher shear force value compared to those of control group at 11, 14 days of cold storage. All treatments were decreased significantly as the storage period passed. There was a not significantly difference in texture between control and CLA treatment groups. All CLA treatment groups showed significantly(p〈0.05) lower TBARS value than the control. TBARS value was increased significantly during storage in all treatment. CLA treatment groups showed significantly(p〈0.05) lower cholesterol content compared to those of control group. As dietary CLA was increased in feed, the content of CLA was increased, but the control was almost not detected. The contents of CLA were not significantly changed during chilled storage for 14 days. In the change of fatty acid composition, the contents of oleic, linoleic and arachidonic were decreased by dietary CLA-supplementation, whereas the increase level of CLA-supplementation resulted in the higher palmitic and stearic acid. In all results, CLA could be accumulated in pork meat and its antioxidant capability has been indicated. It was suggested that dietary CLA-supplementation could be produced high quality pork.

  • Three experiments were conducted to study the property of xylanase and the effects of xylanase in wheat-based diets on growth performance of broilers, respectively. Experiment 1 was performed in vitro to evaluate the effect of different pH and temperature on xylanase activity, and to evaluate the enzymic stability under different conditions. The results indicated that the optimum temperature and pH for xylanase activity were $50^{\circ}C$ and 4.5, respectively. The activity of enzyme solution was reduced rapidly after the treatment of water bath above $60^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. The enzyme was relatively stable at pH 3.5 to 8.0 and deteriorated when incubated at pH below 3.5. In Experiment 2, a total of 378 d-old male Arbor Acres broilers were randomly distributed to 7 different treatments with 6 replicates (9 birds) in each treatment. The treatments were as follows: (1) corn based diet (CS), (2) wheat based diet (WS), (3) WS+ 0.05% xylanase, (4) WS+0.15% xylanase, (5) WS+0.25% xylanase, (6) WS+0.35% xylanase, (7) WS+0.45% xylanase. The results showed that the body weight and feed/gain ratio of the broilers fed wheat-based diets have been significantly improved (p<0.05) compared to that fed corn-based diet in the first 3 wk. With regard to the wheat-based diets, the xylanase supplementation had a tendency to improve the growth performance in first 3 wk. After 3 wk, no significant difference (p>0.05) was found among all these different treatments. The supplementation of xylanase and the type of diets did not affect the feed intake but increased the concentration of triglyceride in serum. In Experiment 3, a total of 360 d-old male Arbor Acres broilers were assigned to 30 groups with 12 birds in each group randomly. These groups were then randomly distributed to 5 different treatments with 6 replicates within each treatment. The broilers of each treatment were fed one of the diets as follows: (1) Corn based diet, (2) White wheat based diet (WW) (3) White wheat based diet+0.25% xylanase, (4) Red wheat based diet, (5) Red wheat based diet+0.25% xylanase. The results showed that the body weight and feed/gain ratio had been significantly improved (p<0.05) by xylanase supplementation in the first 2 or 3 wk. The effect of xylanase in red wheat diet is a little higher than that used in white wheat diet. From the results of the present experiments, it can be concluded that the supplementation of Aspergillar xylanase can improve the performance of the broilers fed the wheat-based diet.

  • A series of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) based hot melt adhesives containing different types and compositions of tackifier resins were prepared to investigate their rheological behavior and T-peel adhesion strength on polyurethane (PU) elastomeric sheets. C5 aliphatic hydrocarbon resin (C5 resin), C9 aromatic hydrocarbon resin (C9 resin), hydrogenated dicyclopentadiene resin ($H_2$-DCPD resin), and dicyclopentadiene and acrylic monomer copolymer resin (DCPD-acrylic resin) were used as the tackifiers for the hot melt adhesives. To determine the polarity of the tackifiers, their oxygen contents were analyzed, and the DCPDacrylic resin was found to contain an oxygen content higher than the other tackifiers. Only the DCPD-acrylic resin showed complete miscibility with EVA and the homogeneous phase of the hot melt adhesive blends at all compositions. The T-peel adhesion strength between the hot melt adhesives and polyurethane elastomeric sheets was mainly affected by the polarity of the tackifier resins in the hot melt adhesives, rather than by the storage moduli, G', of the hot melt adhesives themselves.

  • In this paper, we developed a broadband multi-layered radome applicable for high-power applications. In this regard, we presented the wave propagation characteristics of the broadband multi-layered radome with the ABCD matrix and obtained the optimal thickness and the material constant for each layer by an optimization algorithm called "particle swarm optimization," implemented by a commercial numerical modeling tool. Further, we redesigned it in view of mechanical properties to reflect environmental conditions such as wind, snow, and ice. The power transmission property was reanalyzed based on the recalculated data of each layer's thickness to consider the limitations of the fabrication of a large structure. Under the condition of a peak electric field strength that is 10 dB above the critical electric field strength in air breakdown, we analyzed the air breakdown by radio frequency(RF) in the designed radome using the commercial full-wave electromagnetic tool. The radome was manufactured and tested by continuous wave(CW) RF small signal and large signal in an anechoic chamber. The test results showed good agreement with those attained by simulation.

  • Submerged thin walls are extreme case of submerged rectangular blocks, and could be used for many purposes in rivers or coastal zones, e.g. to tsunami. To understand flow characteristics including flow and pressure fields around a specific submerged thin wall a numerical model was applied which includes computation of hydrodynamic pressure on ${\sigma}$-coordinate. ${\sigma}$-coordinate has strong merits for simulation of subcritical flow over mild-sloped beds. On the other hand ${\sigma}$-coordinate is quite poor to treat sharp structures on the bed. There have been a few trials to incorporate dynamic pressure in ${\sigma}$-coordinate by some researchers. One of the previous approaches includes process of sloving the Poisson equation. However, the above method includes many high-order terms, and requires long cpu for simulation. Another method SOLA was developed by Hirt et al. for computation of dynamic pressure, but it was valid for straight grid system only. Previous SOLA was modified for ${\sigma}$-coordinate for the present purpose and was adopted in a model system, CST3D. Computed flow field shows reasonable behaviour including vorticity is much stronger than the upstream and downstream of the structure. The model was verified to laboratory experiments at a 2DV flume. Time-average flow vectors were measured by using one-dimensional electro-magnetic velocimeter. Computed flow field agrees well with the measured flow field within 10 % error from the speed point of view at 5 profiles. It is thought that the modified SOLA scheme is useful for ${\sigma}$-coordinate system.

  • The plasma surface modification of natural rubber vulcanizate was carried out using chlorodifluoromethane in a radio-frequency (13.56 MHz) electrodeless bell type plasma reactor. The modification was qualitatively assessed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The frictional force of the plasma-treated surface was found to decrease with the time of plasma treatment. An increase in the surface polarity, as evidenced by the decrease in contact angle of a sessile drop of water and ethylene glycol on the natural rubber vulcanizate surface, was noted with the plasma modification. In the case of similar plasma treatment of glass surface, only a reduction in the polarity was observed. The use of geometric and harmonic mean methods was found to be useful to evaluate the London dispersive and specific components of surface free energy. Irrespective of the method used for evaluation, an increasing trend in the surface free energy was noted with increasing plasma treatment time. However, the harmonic mean method yielded comparatively higher values of surface free energy than the geometric mean method. The plasma surface modification was found to vary the frictional coefficient by influencing the interfacial, hysteresis and viscous components of friction in opposing dual manners.

  • Nanohybrid based on environmentally friendly and biodegradable polymer, poly propylene carbonate (PPC) and cloisite 20B (PPC/C-20B) have been synthesized by solution blending method and their morphology, thermal and water absorption properties have been evaluated. The structure of PPC/C-20B nanohybrid was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The thermal property of PPC and PPC/C-20B nanohybrid were investigated by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetric (DSC). The experimental results demonstrated that nanohybrid showed the highest thermal stability in TGA and DSC. TGA tests revealed that the thermal decomposition temperature ($T_{d50%}$) of the nanohybrid increased significantly, being $23^{\circ}C$ higher than that of pure PPC while DSC measurements indicated that the introduction of 5 mass% of clay increased the glass transition temperature from 21 to $30^{\circ}C$. Further the water absorption capacity of the PPC was significantly decreased by the incorporation of clay. Water absorption cause degradation of the coating by the moistures and affect the physical and mechanical performance. This result indicates that organic modifiers have effect on thermal and water absorption capacity of PPC and are of importance for the practical process and application of PPC.

  • The river-bed sediments from the major river basins were analysed for the chemical and physical properties to evaluate environmental safety for the agricultural uses. The samples were taken from 16 sites of Han river, 36 of Geumgang river, 27 of Yeongsan river, and 140 of Nakdong river. The total of 219 samples from the 28 counties were taken from the surface of the sediments at the depth of 50 cm. The particle density of the sediments was greater than $2.63Mg\;m^{-3}$ and the whole range of the density was $2.60{\sim}2.69Mg\;m^{-3}$, the average particle size was 0.7 mm whereas the size range was 0.075~0.85 mm. The analyses of the particle sizes by basins showed that Han and Geumgang river had particle sizes of 0.075~0.85 mm, while Geumgang and Yeongsan river had particle sizes of 0.25~0.85 mm. Geumgang and Yeongsan river tended to have greater particle sizes. The average values of the chemical properties were 6.3 for pH, $0.16dS\;m^{-1}$ for EC, $8g\;kg^{-1}$ for organic matter, $101mg\;kg^{-1}$ for available phosphate, 0.39, 3.47, and $0.93cmol_c\;kg^{-1}$ for exchangeable potassium, calcium, and magnesium respectively. The greatest property at each basin was pH for Han river, Ec, available phosphate and exchangeable sodium for Geumgang river, organic matter, exchangeable calcium and magnesium for Yeongsan river, and exchangeable potassium for Nakdong river.
