Study of Oxygen Plasma Effects to Reduce the Contact Resistance of n-type GaN with Nitrogen Polarity (질소 분극면을 갖는 N형 질화물반도체의 접촉저항 감소를 위한 산소 플라즈마 효과에 관한 연구)

  • We studied the effect of $O_2$ plasma treatments on the electrical property of Ti / Al ohmic contacts to N-face n-type GaN. The surface of N-face, n-type GaN has been treated with $O_2$ plasma for 120 s before the deposition of bilayered electrodes, Ti (50 nm) / Al (35 nm), and its contact resistance was compared with that of the reference sample without $O_2$ plasma. As a result, we found that the ohmic contact was reduced from $4.3\;{\times}\;10^{-1}\;{\Omega}cm^2$ to $1.25\;{\times}\;10^{-3}\;{\Omega}cm^2$ by applying $O_2$ plasma on the surface of n-type GaN, which was attributed to the reduction in the Schottky barrier height (SBH), caused by nitrogen vacancies formed during the $O_2$ plasma process.

Properties of aggregation and spatial distribution of fish in the South Sea of Korea using hydroacoustic data (수산음향기법의 주파수에 따른 남해안의 어류의 군집 및 공간분포 특징)

  • Properties of aggregation and spatial distribution of fish were examined based on three lines in the South Sea of Korea using three frequencies (18, 38, and 120 kHz) of a scientific echosounder. The vertical distribution of fish was displayed using acoustic biomass namely nautical area scattering coefficient (NASC). As a result, at 120 kHz high NASC showed from water surface to 20 meters in deep while at 18 and 38 kHz very high NASC presented in 70 ~ 90 meters in depth, especially at line 3. Among three lines, the line 2 had lowest NASC. The horizontal distribution of fish using three frequencies together exhibited high NASC between the eastern South Sea and center of South Sea. In especial, NASC ($801{\sim}1,920m^2/n{\cdot}mile^2$) was observed along coastal waters from Busan to Tongyeong, Geoje, and Namhae. In regard with the property of aggregation of fish schools, the volume back-scattering strength ($S_V$) of three lines presented close each other, however, the range of $S_V$ in the line 2 was shortest (-53.5 ~ -43.4 dB). The average distributional depth was deep in the order of L3 ($32.8{\pm}9.0m$), L1 ($45.2{\pm}9.5m$), L2 ($49.7{\pm}5.6m$). The average altitude was high in the order of L3 ($13.4{\pm}10.3m$), L1 ($17.0{\pm}12.6m$), L2 ($56.7{\pm}5.6m$). The average length, thickness, and area were large in the order of L1, L3, and L2. This means that small sized fish schools were distributed near water surface in the line 2 while relatively large and similar sized fish aggregations between line 1 and line 3 appeared however, fish schools at line 3 had lower distributional depth and smaller compared to those at line 1. Acoustic data were visualized for demonstrating the entire circumstances of survey area. Additionally, there was no correlation between acoustic and trawl results.

cAMP-Dependent Signalling is Involved in Adenosine-Stimulated $Cl^-$ Secretion in Rabbit Colon Mucosa

  • An important property of the intestine is the ability to secrete fluid. The intestinal secretion is regulated by a number of substances including vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), ATP and different inflammatory mediators. One of the most important secretagogues is adenosine during inflammation. However, the controversy concerning the underlying mechanism of adenosine-stimulated $Cl^-$ secretion in intestinal epithelial cells still continues. To investigate the effect of adenosine on $Cl^-$ secretion and its underlying mechanism in the rabbit colon mucosa, we measured short circuit current ($I_{SC}$) under automatic voltage clamp with DVC-1000 in a modified Ussing chamber. Adenosine, when added to the basolateral side of the muocsa, increased $I_{SC}$ in a dose-dependent manner. The adenosine-stimulated $I_{SC}$ response was abolished when $Cl^-$ in the bath solution was replaced completely with gluconate. In addition, the $I_{SC}$ response was inhibited by a basolateral Na-K-Cl cotransporter blocker, bumetanide, and by apical $Cl^-$ channel blockers, dephenylamine-2-carboxylate (DPC), 5-nitro-2-(3-phenyl-propylamino)-benzoate (NPPB), glibenclamide. Amiloride, an epithelial $Na^+$ channel blocker, and 4,4-diisothiocyanato-stilbene-2,2-disulphonate (DIDS), a $Ca^{2+}-activated$ $Cl^-$ channel blocker, had no effect. In the mucosa pre-stimulated with forskolin, adenosine did not show any additive effect, whereas carbachol resulted in a synergistic potentiation of the $I_{SC}$ response. The adenosine response was inhibited by 10 ${\mu}M$ H-89, an inhibitor of protein kinase A. These results suggest that the adenosine-stimulated $I_{SC}$ response is mediated by basolateral to apical $Cl^-$ secretion through a cAMP-dependent $Cl^-$ channel. The rank order of potencies of adenosine receptor agonists was $5'-(N-ethylcarboxamino)adenosine(NECA)>N^6-(R-phenylisopropyl)adenosine(R-$ PIA)>2-[p-(2-carbonylethyl)-phenyl-ethylamino]-5'-N-ethylcarboxaminoadenosine(CGS21680). From the above results, it can be concluded that adenosine interacts with the $A_{2b}$ adenosine receptor in the rabbit colon mucosa and a cAMP-dependent signalling mechanism underlies the stimulation of $Cl^-$ secretion.

Comparison of Drying Yield, Meat Quality, Oxidation Stability and Sensory Properties of Bone-in Shell Loin Cut by Different Dry-aging Conditions

  • This study aimed to investigate the drying yield, meat quality, oxidation stability and sensory properties of Hanwoo beef loin subjected to different dry-aging conditions. A total of 54 Hanwoo beef loins (bone-in, $6^{th}-13^{th}$ ribs) with fat cover at 2 d postmortem were assigned to four groups and hung in a dry-aging room at a controlled temperature ($2^{\circ}C-4^{\circ}C$), humidity (65%-85%) and air velocity (3 m/s). Four treatment conditions were tested; the respective temperature, humidity and treatment duration are as follows: T1, $2^{\circ}C$, 85%, 60 d; T2, $2^{\circ}C$, 65%, $20d+2^{\circ}C$, 75%, $20d+4^{\circ}C$, 85%, 20 d; T3, $2^{\circ}C$, 75%, $20d+4^{\circ}C$, 85%, 40 d; T4, $4^{\circ}C$, 85%, 60 d. The drying yield, total aerobic counts and fat contents increased, whereas the moisture content, meat color (CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, and $b^*$), and Warner-Bratzler shear force values decreased significantly during the aging period for all treatments (p<0.05). The cooking loss (%) did not change significantly until 40 d, and it was significantly higher in T1 and T4 than in T2 and T3 at 60 d (p<0.05). The water-holding capacity, pH and lipid oxidation [thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) values] increased during aging (p<0.05). The sensory scores for tenderness, juiciness, flavor, and overall acceptability of dry-aged loin muscles increased as the aging period increased. T2 and T3 had significantly higher sensory scores and T1 had significantly lower scores for tenderness, juiciness, flavor, and overall acceptability at 20, 40, and 60 d for loin muscles (p<0.05).

The Strength Properties Activated Granulated Ground Blast Furnace Slag with Aluminum Potassium Sulfate and Sodium Hydroxide (칼륨명반과 수산화나트륨으로 활성화된 고로슬래그 미분말의 강도 특성)

  • In this paper, the effects of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and aluminum potassium sulfate ($AlK(SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2O$) dosage on strength properties were investigated. For evaluating the property related to the dosage of alkali activator, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) of 4% (N1 series) and 8% (N2 series) was added to 1~5% (K1~K5) dosage of aluminum potassium sulfate ($AlK(SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2O$) and 1% (C1) and 2% (C2) dosage of calcium oxide (CaO). W/B ratio was 0.5 and binder/ fine aggregate ratio was 0.5, respectively. Test result clearly showed that the compressive strength development of alkali-activated slag cement (AASC) mortars were significantly dependent on the dosage of NaOH and $AlK(SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2O$. The result of XRD analysis indicated that the main hydration product of $NaOH+AlK (SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2O$ activated slag was ettringite and CSH. But at early ages, ettringite and sulfate coated the surface of unhydrated slag grains and inhibited the hydration reaction of slag in high dosage of $NaOH+AlK(SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2O$. The $SO_4{^{-2}}$ ions from $AlK(SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2O$ reacts with CaO in blast furnace slag or added CaO to form gypsum ($CaSO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$), which reacts with CaO and $Al_2O_3$ to from ettringite in $NaOH+AlK(SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2O$ activated slag cement system. Therefore, blast furnace slag can be activated by $NaOH+AlK(SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2O$.

Quality and Antioxidant Properties of Cookies Supplemented with Cabbage Powder (양배추 분말을 첨가한 쿠키의 품질 및 산화방지 활성)

  • The feasibility of incorporating cabbage powder (CP) as a value-added food ingredient into convenient food products was investigated using cookie as a model system. CP was incorporated into cookies at amounts of 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8% (w/w) based on total weight of wheat flour. pH level and moisture content of cookie dough decreased and increased significantly, respectively, with increasing levels of CP (p<0.05), whereas density was not directly affected by levels of CP incorporation. The spread ratio of cookies and their hardness increased significantly while the loss rate decreased significantly with increasing levels of CP (p<0.05). In terms of color, lightness and yellowness decreased while redness increased significantly (p<0.05) with increasing levels of CP. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activities were significantly elevated by CP addition, and they increased significantly as CP concentration increased in the formulation (p<0.05). Finally, consumer acceptance test indicated that the higher than 4% of CP incorporation had an adverse effect on general consumer preferences. In contrast, cookies with moderate levels of CP (2%) were recommended based on overall scores to take advantage of the antioxidant properties of CP without sacrificing consumer acceptability.

Physicochemical Properties of the Mung Bean (Phaseolus aureus L.) as Biohealth Functional Substance (기능성 소재로서 녹두(Phaseolus aureus L.)의 이화학적 특성)

  • This study on the physicochemical property of physiological activity substance in mung bean (Phaseolus aureus L.) was performed for the use as an functional food materialization. The proximate composition in the vacuum freeze dried mung bean was carbohydrate 57.20±0.29%, crude protein 26.40±0.69%, moisture 9.90±0.16%, crude ash 3.54±0.43%, and crude fat 2.96±0.26%, respectively. The vitamin content of mung bean was vitamin B5 0.62±0.013 mg/100 g, vitamin E 0.17±0.001 mg/100 g, vitamin B1 0.13±0.016 mg/100 g, and β-carotene 87.37±0.754 ㎍ RE/100 g, respectively. The mineral content of mung bean was potassium (K) 12,428.55±147.55 mg kg-1, magnesium (Mg) 2,053.32±14.13 mg kg-1, calcium (Ca) 1,966.40±14.53 mg kg-1, sodium (Na) 1,063.99±7.75 mg kg-1, iron (Fe) 63.77±0.98 mg kg-1, and manganese (Mn) 14.67±0.22 mg kg-1. The compositions of fatty acid were saturated fatty acid 29.23±0.03%, monoenes 20.30±0.04%, and polyenes 50.46±0.06%. Protein bound amino acid content of mung bean was 21.75±0.24 g%. And major amino acids were glutamic acid 3.93±0.03 g%, aspartic acid 2.68±0.03 g%, respectively. The composition of free amino acid of mung bean was 336.77±8.66 mg%, and major free amino acids were arginine, glutamic acid, asparagine, and aspartic acid. As a results of these experiment, Mung bean could be used a natural resouce and functional biohealth food substance.

Effects of Raising Periods on Physico-Chemical Meat Properties of Chicken (육계의 사육 일령에 따른 닭고기의 이·화학적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of different raising days (30, 36, 42) on physico-chemical meat quality properties of chicken breasts and legs stard with 1 day old. In chemical compositions, moisture and protein contents (%) were decreased whereas fat contents (%) were increased as the raising days. In mineral contents, there was not significantly different in calcium contents. However, there was a decrease of potassium contents (p<0.05) as raising periods increased. Nucleotide-related compounds were 121.0 mg/100 g at 30 day, 130.4 at 36 day and 131.2 at 42 day, respectively. However, they were not significantly different during the raising periods (p<0.05). The similar tendency was observed in leg parts. $L^*$ values were decreased especially for chicken raised for 42 days. $b^*$ values were gradually increased as the raising periods increased. Cooking loss (%) was decreased whereas Warner-Bratzler shear forces (WBS) were increased as the raising periods increased.

A Continuous Cell Separator Based on Gravity and Buoyant Forces in Fluids of Dissimilar Density (서로 다른 밀도의 유체 내 바이오 물질이 받는 중력과 부력 차를 이용한 연속적 세포 분리기)

  • We present a continuous cell separator that achieves density-dependent and size-independent cell separation based on the net force of gravity and buoyancy forces on the cells in dissimilar density fluids. Previous cell separators are, based on the size or dielectrophoretic property of the cells and, are suitable for size-dependent and density-independent cell separation. However, these properties can make it difficult to collect the same types of cells with the same density but with size variations. The present separator, however, is capable of collecting the same types of cells based on the cell density in the fluid. Regardless of cell size, the proposed chip isolates low density cells, (white blood cells, or WBCs) at the upper outlet while obtaining high-density cells (red blood cells, or RBCs) from the lower outlet based on density. Efficiency levels for separation of WBCs and RBCs were $90.9{\pm}9.1%$ and $86.4{\pm}1.99%$, respectively. The present separator therefore has the potential for use in the pretreatment of whole blood.

Microwave hybrid sintering of NTC themistor (마이크로파 하이브리드 소결법에 의한 NTC 서미스터의 제조)

  • The NTC thermistors were sintered by using microwave hybrid heating method at $1100^{\circ}C$~$1300^{\circ}C$ and those electrical properties were investigated. The obtained $B_{25^{\circ}C/85^{\circ}C}$ values from temperature dependence of electrical resisitivity were around 3100~3200 K which were almost the same values as conventionally sintered ones. Compared with conventional sintering process, this process could complete whole sintering process within 20 minutes. This the processing time and energy consumption could be reduced through this rapid heating by using microwave hybrid heating.t there were showed only two peaks, glycolide melting peak and lower molecular weight melting peak without lauryl alcohol. Conversion increased slowly with the reaction time up to 50 minutes, and then gave a sudden increase above that. The reaction time to disappear in glycolide melting peak during polymerization was shortened with the increase of lauryl alcohol content. Zero-shear viscosity of polyglycolic acid decreased with the increase of free acid content in glycolide.ssional energy and bending hysteresis increased. \circled3 Surface characteristics such as friction coefficient and thickness variation of highly shrinkage fabrics became relatively roughened state. \circled4 Since stiffened and roughened characteristics of highly shrinkage fabrics, drapabilities of them were significantly lowered. Additionally thermal insulation property of high shrinkage fabric was higher than that of low shrinkage fabric due to bulky and thickened feature. From the results, it is considered that the silk fabrics with high filling shrinkage have the good bulkiness and heat keeping properties and thus they have the suitable characteristics for high quality men's and women's formal garments.
