This study estimates the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction resulting from photovoltaic and wind power technologies using a bottom-up approach for an indirect emission source (scope 2) in South Korea. To estimate GHG reductions from photovoltaic and wind power activities under standard operating conditions, methodologies are derived from the 2006 IPCC guidelines for national GHG inventories and the guidelines for local government greenhouse inventories of Korea published in 2016. Indirect emission factors for electricity are obtained from the 2011 Korea Power Exchange. The total annual GHG reduction from photovoltaic power (23,000 tons CO2eq) and wind power (30,000 tons CO2eq) was estimated to be 53,000 tons CO2eq. The estimation of individual GHGs showed that the largest component is carbon dioxide, accounting for up to 99% of the total GHG. The results of estimation from photovoltaic and wind power were 63.60% and 80.22% of installed capacity, respectively. The annual average GHG reductions from photovoltaic and wind power per year per unit installed capacity (MW) were estimated as 549 tons CO2eq/yr·MW and 647 tons CO2eq/yr·MW, respectively. Finally, the results showed that the level of GHG reduction per year per installed capacity of photovoltaic and wind power is 62% and 42% compared to the CDM project, respectively.
UN-REDD (United Nations programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) is currently being emerged as one of important mechanism to reduce carbon dioxide in relation to the deforestation. Although administrative boundary has already gained world-wide recognition as a typical method of monitoring unit in the process of GHG (Greenhouse Gas) reduction project, this approach did not provide a realistic evidence in the carbon sequestering monitoring in terms of UN-REDD; the meaningful comparison of land use patterns among watershed boundaries, interpretation for distribution trends of carbon density, calculation of opportunity cost, leakage management, etc. This research proposes a comparative evaluation framework in a more objective and quantitative way for carbon sequestering monitoring between administrative and watershed boundary approaches. Mt. Geumgang of North Korea was selected as a survey objective and an exhaustive and realistic comparison of carbon sequestration between the two approaches was conducted, based on change detection using TM satellite images. It was possible for drainage boundary approach to identify more detailed area-wide patterns of carbon distribution than traditional administrative one, such as estimations of state and trends, including historical trends, of land use / land cover and carbon density in the Mt. Geumgang. The distinctive changing trends in terms of carbon sequestration were specifically identified over the watershed boundary from 4.0% to 34.8% while less than 1% difference was observed in the administrative boundaries, which were resulting in almost 21-22%. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference to support more scientific and objective decision-making in introducing watershed boundary as carbon sequestering monitoring unit.

The first category of Affective Domain objectives in Bloom's Taxonomy is about "Receiving". In it, the first subdivision listed is "Awareness" (Krathwohl, Bloom & Masia, 1964). Since these categories are intended to be hierarchical in ascending order of internalization, it is important that young learners be given ample opportunities in their learning experiences in class to be aware of positive values and effective life skills. This paper reports a feasibility study on the adoption of an integrative cognitive-affective learning approach in a primary school science lesson. 37 primary six students in a Singapore primary school were taught the concept of centre of gravity, including a hands-on activity to find the centre of gravity of an irregularly shaped cardboard by using a plumbline. After reviewing how a plumbline works, their teacher then led them into a discussion on the question "Who is the plumbline in your life?" a reference to identifying positive role models in their lives. From the transcript of the students' in-class sharing and their written responses to the question, it is clear that the integrative cognitive-affective learning approach did enable students to present their ideas and learning experiences in the affective domain quite readily. This conclusion provides a valuable lead to a follow-up project on whether students who are exposed to such integrative learning approaches will be more capable and more aware of identifying important positive social habits or values. If so, then the teaching of values in schools could take on a whole new dimension, that of borrowing students' learning energy in the cognitive domain to learn values and life skills in the affective domain.
In modern systems design and development, one of the key issues is considered to be related with how to reflect faithfully the stakeholder requirements including customer requirements therein, thereby successfully implementing the system functions derived from the requirements. On the other hand, the issue of safety management is also becoming greatly important these days, particularly in the operational phase of the systems under development. An approach to safety management can be based on the use of the failure mode effect and analysis (FMEA), which has been a core method adopted in automotive industry to reduce the potential failure. The fact that a successful development of cars needs to consider both the complexity and failure throughout the whole life cycle calls for the necessity of applying the systems engineering (SE) process. To meet such a need, in this paper a method of FMEA is developed based on the SE concept. To do so, a process model is derived first in order to identify the required activities that must be satisfied in automotive design while reducing the possibility of failure. Specifically, the stakeholder requirements were analyzed first to derive a set of functions, which subsequentially leads to the task of identifying necessary HW/SW components. Then the derived functions were allocated to appropriate HW/SW components. During this design process, the traceability between the functions and HW/SW components were generated. The traceability can play a key role when FMEA is performed to predict the potential failure that can be described with the routes from the components through the linked functions. As a case study, the developed process model has been applied in a project carried out in practice. The results turned out to demonstrate the usefulness of the approach.

To project military power, the paradigm of the modern warship aquisition has evolved with more large platform and high-technology equipment. For example, the Aegis combat system equipped warship is one of the most advanced and capable defense systems currently in use. Concurrently, if the warship attacked and disabled, it may worse the asymmetry of the battle field and it also depress the morale of the fleet. For that reason, to keep and protect few number of the big and high technology equipped warship from enemy is very important. At the present, the performance of unit weapon has enhanced remarkably. A Korean-built SS-209 class submarine, Lee Chun-ham, participated in Naval Exercise Tandem Thrust conducted in 1999, sink the target ship ex-USS Oklahoma by a single torpedo. USS Stark was struck on May 17, 1987, by two Exocet anti ship missiles and disabled. For this reason, susceptibility should be prior to vulnerability and recoverability. In this paper, deception ship which is small and chief but has very similar signatures to large and high technology equiped warship has conceptually studied by using systems engineering approach. And it may be a effective way to enhance the susceptibility of the key fighting power.
For the development of Korean health promotion projects, this paper appraised the capacities of health promotion projects and examined the latest international trend of the health promotion field, based on the appraisal of data made by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, 2005 and IUHPE relevant reports. The capacities of Korean health promotion should be strengthened as follows: First, it is urgent to give health education and to use the professionals of it. Secondly, setting approach is required when working on health promotion projects. Thirdly, it is necessary to strengthen the capacities of local communities through the central government's administrative and financial supports for the healthy cities project which is a strategy of general approach to new public health projects. The $21^{st}$ century is an age of new public health that the cause for deaths increasingly is centered on life style. So it is necessary to expand the scope of health education to the field of making the environment of local community healthy beyond the level of individual health education. And further, it is required to develop the curriculum of health and to work out new strategies for health promotion. In conclusion, Korea should train competent human resources in the fields of practice of healthy public policies, of knowledge-based projects, and of health promotion (like health educators). The political direction for it should be to promote various healthy city projects, not only health center-led health promotion projects, and further, to strengthen the capacities of the health promotion projects of local communities.

Greybox fuzzing is known as an effective method to discover unknown security flaws reside in software and has been actively researched today. However, most of greybox fuzzing tools require an executable file. Because of this, a library, which cannot be executed by itself requires an additional executable file for greybox fuzzing. Generating such an executable file is challengeable because it requires both understanding of the library and fuzzing. In this research, we suggest the approach to generate an executable file automatically for a library and implement this approach as a tool based on the LLVM framework. This tool shows that executable files and seed files can be generated automatically by static/dynamic analysis of a unit test in the target project. A generated executable file is compatible with various greybox fuzzers like AFL because it has a common interface for greybox fuzzers. We show the performance of this tool as code coverage and discovered unknown security bugs using generated executable files and seed files from open source projects through this tool.

The content based on image retrieval makes use of features of information within image such as color, texture and share for Retrieval data. we present a novel approach for improving retrieval accuracy based on DCT Filter-Bank. First, we perform DCT on a given image, and generate a Filter-Bank using the DCT coefficients for each color channel. In this step, DC and the limited number of AC coefficients are used. Next, a feature vector is obtained from the histogram of the quantized DC coefficients. Then, AC coefficients in the Filter-Bank are separated into three main groups indicating horizontal, vertical, and diagonal edge directions, respectively, according to their spatial-frequency properties. Each directional group creates its histogram after employing Otsu binarization technique. Finally, we project each histogram on the horizontal and vertical axes, and generate a feature vector for each group. The computed DC and AC feature vectors bins are concatenated, and it is used in the similarity checking procedure. We experimented using 1,000 databases, and as a result, this approach outperformed the old retrieval method which used color information.
Global warming under the influence of climate change and its direct impact on glacial and sea level are known issue. However, there is a lack of research on an indirect impact of climate change such as coastal structure design which is mainly based on a frequency analysis of water level under the stationary assumption, meaning that maximum sea level will not vary significantly over time. In general, stationary assumption does not hold and may not be valid under a changing climate. Therefore, this study aims to develop a novel approach to explore possible distributional changes in annual maximum sea levels (AMSLs) and provide the estimate of design water level for coastal structures using a multiple non-crossing quantile regression based nonstationary frequency analysis within a Bayesian framework. In this study, 20 tide gauge stations, where more than 30 years of hourly records are available, are considered. First, the possible distributional changes in the AMSLs are explored, focusing on the change in the scale and location parameter of the probability distributions. The most of the AMSLs are found to be upward-convergent/divergent pattern in the distribution, and the significance test on distributional changes is then performed. In this study, we confirm that a stationary assumption under the current climate characteristic may lead to underestimation of the design sea level, which results in increase in the failure risk in coastal structures. A detailed discussion on the role of the distribution changes for design water level is provided.
For the past decade, South Korea had experienced catastrophic building fires, which resulted in consider-ably high number of casualties. This motivated research to develop fire-safe wall assemblies. In this study Fire Risk Analysis (FRA) is conducted as part of the project designing phase to ensure fire safety of the final product. Traditional approach was to consider fire performance at the end of the designing stage, when PASS/FAIL fire test results are required to be submitted to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). By applying a fire risk analysis to guide the designing phase, overall fire safety of a wall assembly can be achieved more systematically as conducting FRA allows designers to clearly identify elements that are more vulnerable to fire and simply replace them with other practical options. Severity of fire risk is determined by considering the fire hazards of a wall assembly such as the exterior layer, insulation, vertical connectivity, and external ignition sources (e.g., photovoltaic panels). Frequency of fire risk is assessed based on the factors affecting fire likelihood, which are air cavity and fire-stopping applied in the design, and random design changes occurring during on-site construction. Fire risk matrix is proposed based on these fire risk factors and efforts to reduce the fire risk level associated with the wall assembly are given by systematically assessing the fire risk factors identified from fire risk analysis. Current study demonstrates how fire risk analysis can be applied to develop fire-safe walls by reducing the relevant fire risks- both severity and frequency.
