Synthesis of Ladder Diagrams for PLCs Based on Discrete Event Models (이산사건모델에 기반한 PLC 래더다이어그램 자동합성)

  • PLC(programmable Logic Controller)s essential components of modern automation systems encompassing almost every industry. Ladder Diagrams (LD) have been widely used in the design of such PLC since the LD is suitable for the modeling of the sequential control system. However, the synthesis of LD itself mainly depends on the experience of the industrial engineer, which may results in unstructured or inflexible design. Hence, in this paper, we propose a ladder diagram conversion algorithm which systematically produces LDs for PLCs based on discrete event models to enhance the structured and flexible design mechanism.

  • In this paper, the architecture of a dataflow logic solving processor for programmable logic controller is proposed. As the proposed DFLSP(dataflow logic solving processor) is designed based on the dataflow architecture, it has inherently concurrent processing and data synchronization capabilities. And also, it has dynamic load balancing capabilites which increases the utilization of the whole system that can he hardly implemented in other multiprocessor system. The re-matching unit gets rid of unnecessary matching cycles in LSU, which increases the performance of LSU and allows the multiple input multiple output operations.

  • In this paper, an organic signal control method for the traffic lights system is suggested. To do this, Programmable Logic Controller(PLC) and position sensor are utilized to manufactured a traffic lights signal control system. An operating example of the manufactured traffic lights system in special situation is given to illustrate that the proposed method is effective better than the existing method.

  • An automatic verification method has been studied to determine the safety and operability of programmable logic controller (PLC) based systems. For the systematic and efficient verification, we have developed a conversion method from relay ladder logic (RLL) to the verification system description. RLL is a common representation used to document PLC programs for the sequential logic of the system such as the safety interlocks and the startup/shutdown procedures. Once the modules are developed, complex RLLs can be represented by the combination of modules. As a result we can verify complex PLC systems using the verification method including RLL modules. The developed modules are used to verify alarm systems and show that the method is valid.

  • Petri nets have been introduced as a powerful analyzing and design tool for the discrete systems such as sequential control systems. However, one of the important problems in its applications is that the model can be analyzed hardly when we deal with large scale systems because of increase of the number of Petri net components. To overcome this problem, some methods for dividing or reducing of Petri net have been suggested. In this paper, an approach for hierarchical expression of Petri net based on Sequential function Chart(SFC) and Bottom Up oriented Mehodology(BUM) is proposed. Especially, some definitions and rules are defined in order to divide and compose sub Petri nets. A measuring tank system will be described as a typical kind of discrete systems and modeled by some sub Petri nets based on the SFC and BUM by the proposed method in this paper.

  • The basic processing unit for instant ramen noodles includes mixing, rolling, boiling, frying, cooling, and packing processes. For uniform thickness of dough sheets in rolling process, the roll-gap in rolling process needs to keep uniform thickness of flour sheets in spite of different kinds of raw materials. In this paper, we have developed a roll gap adjustment system using a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) with a touch panel and an AC servo-mechanism to make dough sheets with a good gluten starch-network structure and uniform thickness and to contribute to process standardization by transferring from tacit knowledge of skilled workers to explicit knowledge. The developed system can adjust the roll gap in units of 0.01mm and correspond to various product items which have different thickness specification by recalling the presetting values of the desired thickness from database.

  • This paper introduces the software life-cycle V&V (verification and validation) tasks for the KNICS (Korea nuclear instrumentation and control system) project. The objectives of the V&V tasks are mainly to develop a programmable logic controller (PLC) for safety critical instrumentation and control (I&C) systems, and then to apply the PLC to developing the prototype of an engineered safety features-component control system (ESF-CCS) in nuclear power plants. As preparative works for the software V&V, various kinds of software plans and V&V task procedures have been developed according to the software life-cycle management. A number of software V&V tools have been adopted or developed to efficiently support the V&V tasks. The V&V techniques employed in this work include a checklist-based review and inspection, a requirement traceability analysis, formal verification, and life-cycle based software testing.

  • 산업계에서의 제어시스템(Control System)은 크게 SCADA(Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) 시스템, 분산 제어시스템(Distributed Control System, DCS), PLC 시스템 (Programmable Logic Controller System)으로 분류할 수 있다. 특히 전력분야의 SCADA 시스템은 목적상 실시간의 대규모 측정 정보 취득을 목적으로 운영되며, 실시간 및 이력 데이터베이스, 원격 데이터 취득, 다양한 데이터 처리, Supervisory Control 등 복잡한 기능과 다양한 전력시스템과의 정보교환이 요구된다. 다양한 전력시스템과의 정보 교환을 위한 표준화 요구에 부응하여, 향후 전력시스템은 표준화되고 공개된 정보모델을 활용한 통합시스템 개발이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 전력 공통정보모델(CIM)과 애플리케이션 통합 정보기술을 이용한 전력시스템의 메시지 통합버스 설계에 대하여 기술하고자 한다.

ISO 26262 automotive functional safety: issues and challenges

  • Recently, the automotive industry has been introduced to ISO 26262 in November 2011 to address the necessity of safety risk from sensor to actuator by providing guidance in the form of requirements and processes. The malfunctioning behaviour of these systems could have significant impact on the safety of humans and/or the environment. Most of the modern automobiles are equipped with embedded electronic systems which include lots of Electronic Controller Units (ECUs), electronic sensors, signals, bus systems and coding. Due to the complex application in electrical, electronics and programmable electronics, the need to carry out detailed safety analyses which focuses on the potential risk of malfunction is crucial for automotive systems. In this paper, the international trends on pre and post introduction of ISO 26262 through publications will be analyzed as well as to take a glimpse in the activities for implementing this standard by the automotive manufacturers. The issues and challenges which have been occurring from implementing this standard also will be highlighted.

  • Protective relay play a crucial role in the proper operation of a power system, and the reliable transfer of electrical power. This paper deals with the design and implementation of a digital protective relay on a single chip. Implementation on the FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) of the chip of digital protective relay. This protective relaying chip monitors the frequency and the voltage and current of the power system. And report the voltage, the current. the frequency, active power and reactive power.
