Automatic Control of pH and EC by Programmable Logic Controller in Nutriculture of Tomato(Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) (토마토의 양액재배시 Programmable Logic Controller에 의한 pH와 EC의 자동조절)

  • Using the programmable logic controller (PLC), a kind of microcomputer, a facility to control EC and pH automatically in nutriculture of tomato was developed. A program for the automatic control of nutriculture was written in ladder diagram language. EC and pH levels of nutrition solution could be maintained at 1.70-1.72 and 6.1-6.5, respectively, during the entire growing period. Better fruits and higher yield were obtained in automatic control plot than in the control plot. Inorganic elements in plant were higher in the former than in the latter.

  • Nuclear industries have faced unfavorable circumstances such as an obsolescence of the instrumentation and control system, and therefore nuclear society is striving to resolve this issue fundamentally. IEC and IAEA judge that FPGA technology is a good replacement for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) of Nuclear Instrumentation and Control System. FPGAs are currently highlighted as an alternative means for obsolete control systems. Because the main function inside an FPGA is initially developed as software, good software quality can impact the reliability of an FPGA-based controller. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a software development aspect strategy that enhances the reliability of an FPGA-based controller. In terms of software development, HDL-Programmed Device (HPD) Development Life Cycle is applied into FPGA-based Controller. The burn-in test and environmental(temperature) test should be performed in order to apply into nuclear instrumentation and control system. Therefore it is ensured that the developed FPGA-based controller are normally operated for 352 hours and 92 hours in test chamber of Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM).

  • A multiloop programmable controller using graphic control language and a configuration graphic editor for designing control algorithm in graphic windows are developed. Using the graphic control language, large and complex control algorithm can be designed easily and the modification of control algorithm is simple. The proposed controller using graphic language can be effectively used for complex plants like power plants.

  • This paper presents a desing of a PWM programmable controller for industrial robot to be utilized in process which reqires various movements and repeating operations. To be specific, a low-level robot language is constructed which makes easy for the user to program complex robot motion, and an interpreter is developed to execute the program. Also, related hardware and software, and monitor program for convenience of user are implemented. When the proposed controller is applied to the catresian coordinate 4-axis manipulator, it reveals that the error probabilities of X,Y and Z axis as 0.033%, 0.023%,0.028% respectively.

  • Nuclear industries have faced unfavorable circumstances such as an obsolescence of the instrumentation and control system, and therefore nuclear society is striving to resolve this trouble fundamentally. FPGAs are currently highlighted as an alternative means for obsolete control systems. Because of the obsolescence-unaffected characteristics, FPGA should be highly reliable in order to be a replacement for PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). Therefore, it is necessary to establish a software development aspect strategy that enhances the reliability of an FPGA-based controller. The reliability analysis including the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) is carried out based on the MIL-HDBK-217F. MTBFs are compared with the FPGA-based controller COMMON-Q PLC. As an analysis result, it shows that the reliability of the FPGA-based controller is better than or equal to that of PLC.

  • A Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) has been developed by Turbotek Co., Ltd. The developed system has multi-domain functionality-including sequence control, motion control and HMI- on a single platform. The PAC also has a common development platform for the design and integration of multi-domain automated systems. Since hardware of the developed system has modular architectures, performance and specification of the controller are determined by combination of specific modules. The developed system employs de facto standards such as OPC interface that allow users to easily exchange data as part of networked multi-vendor systems.

  • A fuzzy control algorithm is used to weigh alloy metal into electric arc furnace and implemented by using ladder program for programmable logic controller, where weight error and its derivative are used for input variables and vibration amplitude of alloy bin is used for output variable. Proposed fuzzy control algorithm is applied to the plant and results in higher measuring accuracy as well as faster measuring term than conventional on-off control system.

  • In this paper an intelligent supervisory programmable controller for automatic assembly machine is developed. This is achieved by adding sequence control hardware with input-interrupts to supervisory real time language and also by incorporating an automatic planning method which uses a predicate logic model and an action model. The designed intelligent supervisory programmable controller is applied to Die Bonding Machine and is to found to work well.

  • In this paper, we designed IOT(Internet of Things) based hydroponic plant factory in order to avoid the effects of fine dust penetrating into the soil, and proposed the PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) control methods. The designed plant factory could monitor the density of oxygen, the density of nutrient solution, temperature and humidity through touch screen and smart phone, and control the heater and cooler, ventilation and dehumidifier, and wavelengths of LEDs to grow plant in appropriate environments.

  • In this paper, we have developed a general purpose motion controller using an FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array). The multi-PID controllers on a single chip are implemented as a system-on-chip for multi-axis motion control. We also develop a PC GUI for an efficient interface control. Comparing with the commercial motion controller LM 629 it has multi-independent PID controllers so that it has several advantages such as space effectiveness, low cost and lower power consumption. In order to test the performance of the proposed controller, robot finger is controlled. The robot finger has three fingers with 2 joints each. Finger movements show that position tracking was very effective. Another experiment of balancing an inverted pendulum on a cart has been conducted to show the generality of the proposed FPGA PID controller. The controller has well maintained the balance of the pendulum.
