This study designs and tests a photovoltaic system with distributed maximum power point tracking (DMPPT) methodology using a field programmable gate array (FPGA) controller. Each solar panel in the distributed PV system is equipped with a newly designed DC/DC converter and the panel's voltage output is regulated by a FPGA controller using PI control. Power from each solar panel on the system is optimized by another controller where the quadratic maximization MPPT algorithm is used to ensure the panel's output power is always maximized. Experiments are carried out at atmospheric insolation with partial shading conditions using 4 amorphous silicon thin film solar panels of 2 different grades fabricated by Chi-Mei Energy. It is found that distributed MPPT requires only 100ms to find the maximum power point of the system. Compared with the traditional centralized PV (CPV) system, the distributed PV (DPV) system harvests more than 4% of solar energy in atmospheric weather condition, and 22% in average under 19% partial shading of one solar panel in the system. Test results for a 1.84 kW rated system composed by 8 poly-Si PV panels using another DC/DC converter design also confirm that the proposed system can be easily implemented into a larger PV power system. Additionally, the use of NI sbRIO-9642 FPGA-based controller is capable of controlling over 16 sets of PV modules, and a number of controllers can cooperate via the network if needed.
The construction and operation of industrial automation has been actively taking place from manufacturing plan to production for improving operational efficiency of production line and flexibility of equipment. ISO/TC184 is standardizing on operating methods that can share information of programmable device controllers such as PLC and IoT that are geographically distributed in the production line. In this study, the design of the cell controller consists of PLC group and IoT group that perform signals such as temperature sensors, gas sensors, and pressure sensors for thermal processes and corresponding motors or valves. The operation and analysis of the cell controller were performed using SDN(Software Defined Network) and the three types of process services performed in thermal processes are real-time transmission service, loss-sensitive large-capacity transmission service, and normal transmission service. The simulation result showed that the average loss rate improved by about 17% when the traffic increased before and after the application of the SDN route technique, and the delay in the real-time service was as low as 1 ms.
The Motion controllers provide the sophisticated performance and enhanced capabilities we can see in the movements of robotic systems. Several types of motion controllers are available, some based on the kind of overall control system in use. PLC (Programmable Logic Controller)-based motion controllers still predominate. The many peoples use MCU (Micro Controller Unit)-based board level motion controllers and will continue to in the near-term future. These motion controllers control a variety motor system like robotic systems. Generally, They consist of large and complex circuits. PLC-based motion controller consists of high performance PLC, development tool, and application specific software. It can be cause to generate several problems that are large size and space, much cabling, and additional high coasts. MCU-based motion controller consists of memories like ROM and RAM, I/O interface ports, and decoder in order to operate MCU. Additionally, it needs DPRAM to communicate with host PC, counter to get position information of motor by using encoder signal, additional circuits to control servo, and application specific software to generate a various velocity profiles. It can be causes to generate several problems that are overall system complexity, large size and space, much cabling, large power consumption and additional high costs. Also, it needs much times to calculate velocity profile because of generating by software method and don't generate various velocity profiles like arbitrary velocity profile. Therefore, It is hard to generate expected various velocity profiles. And further, to embed real-time OS (Operating System) is considered for more reliable motion control. In this paper, the structure of chip-based precision motion controller is proposed to solve above-mentioned problems of control systems. This proposed motion controller is designed with a FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) by using the VHDL (Very high speed integrated circuit Hardware Description Language) and Handel-C that is program language for deign hardware. This motion controller consists of Velocity Profile Generator (VPG) part to generate expected various velocity profiles, PCI Interface part to communicate with host PC, Feedback Counter part to get position information by using encoder signal, Clock Generator to generate expected various clock signal, Controller part to control position of motor with generated velocity profile and position information, and Data Converter part to convert and transmit compatible data to D/A converter.

AIn this paper, a new desist of LDI controller IC for general purpose is proposed for driving the LDI(LCD Driver Interface) controller in $4{\sim}9$ inches sized portable small-medium TFT-LCD(Thin Film Transistor addressed -Liquid Crystal Display) panel module. The designed LDI controller was verified on the FPGA(Reld Programmable Gate Array) test board, and was made the interactive operation with the commercial TFT-LCD panel successfully. The purpose of design is that it is standardized the LDI controller's operation by one LDI controller for driving all TFT-LCD panel without classifying the panel vendor, and size. The main advantage for new general-purpose LDI controller is the usage for the desist of all panel's SoG(System on a Glass) module because of the design for the standard operation. And in the previous method, it used each LDI controller for every LCD vendor, and panel size, but because a new one can drive all portable small-medium sized panel, it results in reduction of LDI controller supply price, and manufacturing cost of AV(Audio Video) board and panel. In the near future, the development of SoG IC(Integrated Circuit) for manufacturing more excellent functional TFT-LCD panel module is necessary. As a result of this research, the TFT-LCD panel can make more small size, and light weight, and it results in an upturn of domestic company's share in the world market. With the suggested theory in this paper, it expects to be made use of a basic data for developing and manufacturing for the SoG chip of TFT-LCD panel module.
This paper proposes a new approach of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) controlled digital implementation of shunt active power filter (SAPF) under steady state and dynamic operations. Typical implementations of SAPF uses microprocessor and digital signal processor (DSP) but it limited for complex algorithm structure, absence of feedback loop delays and their cost can be exceed the benefit they bring. In this paper, the hardware resources of an FPGA are configured and implemented in order to overcome conventional microcontroller or digital signal processor implementations. This proposed FPGA digital implementation scheme has very less execution time and boosts the overall performance of the system. The FPGA controller integrates the entire control algorithm of an SAPF, including synchronous reference frame transformation, phase locked loop, low pass filter and inverter current controller etc. All these required algorithms are implemented with a single all-on chip FPGA module which provides freedom to reconfigure for any other applications. The entire algorithm is coded, processed and simulated using Xilinx 12.1 ISE suite to estimate the advantages of the proposed system. The coded algorithm is also defused on a single all-on-chip Xilinx Spartan 3A DSP-XC3SD1800 laboratory prototype and experimental results thus obtained match with simulated counterparts under the dynamic state and steady state operating conditions.
This paper presents a design of Programmable logic Controllers which are well known for a long time that can be applied to be a controller for an automatic machine in industries. However, most of them have been imported from oversea country. This research focuses on the development of PLC by KMITL staff. This PLC system is consists of CPU unit, Digital I/O RTU unit, ANALOG RTU unit. The implementation of the CPU scan time and I/O refresh are principle to PLC. In this article, there are many benefits to industries especially in order to support SME that can use local technology. Therefore, we can apply this research to the manufacturing process in Thailand for the future.

Since a slight malfunction of control systems in a nuclear power plant may cause huge catastrophes, such control systems usually have multiple redundancy and reliable features, and their reliability and availability should be analyzed and verified thoroughly. This paper performed the reliability analysis of the SPLC (Safety Programmable Logic Controller) that is under developed as the control systems for the next generation nuclear power plant. One of the key features of SPLC is that it has multiple redundancy modes as faults happen, which means the reliability analysis for one fixed redundant model is not enough to analyze the reliability of SPLC. With considering this reconfigurable concept, FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) was used to capture fault-relationship among sub-modules. The analysis results show that MTTF (Mean Time to Fault) of SPLC is 45,080 hours, which is a about 4.5 times longer than the regulation, 10,000 hours.
Modeling a discrete event system such as a sequential control system is difficult compared with a continuous system. Petri nets have been introduced as an analyzing and design tool for the discrete systems. One of the problems in its applications is that the model can not be analyzed easily in the case of large scale or complicated systems because of increase of the number of components of the system. To overcome this problem, some methods for dividing or reducing Petri nets have been suggested. In this paper, an approach for a hierarchical expression of Petri nets based on Sequential Function Chart(SFC) is proposed. A measuring tank system will be described as a typical kind of discrete systems. The system is modeled by sub Petri nets based on SFC in order to analyze and visualize efficiently about the dynamic behaviors of the system. Some numerical simulations using state equations are performed to prove the validity of the proposed method.

Recently, a software program has been used in nuclear power plants (NPPs) to digitalize many instrumentation and control systems. To guarantee NPP safety, the reliability of the software used in safetycritical instrumentation and control systems must be quantified and verified with proper test cases and test environment. In this study, a software testing method using a simulation-based software test bed is proposed. The test bed is developed by emulating the microprocessor architecture of the programmable logic controller used in NPP safety-critical applications and capturing its behavior at each machine instruction. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated via a case study. To represent the possible states of software input and the internal variables that contribute to generating a dedicated safety signal, the software test cases are developed in consideration of the digital characteristics of the target system and the plant dynamics. The method provides a practical way to conduct exhaustive software testing, which can prove the software to be error free and minimize the uncertainty in software reliability quantification. Compared with existing testing methods, it can effectively reduce the software testing effort by emulating the programmable logic controller behavior at the machine level.
It is known that the ability and habit to "flow" could be one of the important indices to evaluate one's life. And the flow experience of university students who are in the important time transferring from the adolescence to the initial adult period will give an important effect firstly to study one's major and map out one's career path, finally to spread out the high quality life. This study investigated the university students who are in School of Mechatronic Engineering to experience the flow in the learning of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) practice. For this, the flow condition was arranged. And in order to experience the flow in the learning of PLC, lecture plan was established, studying environment was changed and level of difficulty was controlled. Then the implications of the flow were explored by a 5-point Likert scale survey performed to 90 students.
