  • Various types of fieldbus are used in factories in order to achieve the communication between the parts of process. But the protocol of the fieldbus doesn't have the standardized unique protocol. Thus, it is hard to exchange information each other with real time base when the different type protocols are adopted in the same network. In this paper, we implement two types of gateway for CAN and Profibus-DP: PC-based gateway and stand-alone gateway using the 80186 core based Dstni-LX network processor. The performance of proposed PC-based and stand-alone gateway is verified experimentally.

  • As many sensors and actuators are used in many automated system, various industrial networks are adopted for digital control system. In order to take advantages of the networking, however, the network implementation should be carefully designed to satisfy real-time requirements considering network delays. This paper presents the implementation scheme of a networked control system via Profibus-DP network. More specifically, the effect of the network delay on the control performance was evaluated on a Profibus-DP testbed, and a GA based PID tuning algorithm is proposed to demonstrate the fesibility of the networked control system.

  • The fieldbus is one of the communication networks in control and automation systems and allows the exchange of information between sensors/actuators and controlling elements. By means of the fieldbus, the various field devices can exchange their information among the nodes in the system. In this paper, we implemented the protocol of profibus, a kind of fieldbus for communication in FMS plant model. We applied this fieldbus to the FMS plant model which consists of three stations and eight slave stations.

  • This paper focuses on the feasibility of fuzzy logic control for networked control systems. In order to evaluate its feasibility, a networked control system for motor speed control is implemented on a Profibus-DP network. The NCS consists of several independent, but interacting processes running on two separate stations. By using this NCS, the network delay is analyzed to find the cause of the delay. Furthermore, in order to prove the feasibility, the fuzzy logic controllers performance is compared with those of conventional PID controllers. Based on the experimental results, the fuzzy logic controller can be a viable choice for NCS due to its robustness against parameter uncertainty.

  • A cluster tool for semiconductor manufacturing is an integrated device that consists of several single wafer processing modules and a wafer transport module based on a robot. The distributed module controllers are integrated by an inter-module communication network and coordinated by a centralized controller, called a cluster tool controller (CTC). Since the CTC monitors and coordinates the distributed complex module controllers for advanced process control, complex commuication messaging and services between the CTC and the module controllers are required. A SEMI standard, CTMC(Cluster Tool Module Communication), specifies application-level communication service requirements for inter-module communication. We propose the use of high-level fieldbuses, for instance. PROFIBUS-FMS, for implementing CTMC since the high-level fieldbuses are well suited for complex real-time distributed manufacturing control applications. We present a way of implementing CTMC using PROFIBUS-FMS as the communication enabler. We first propose improvements of a key object of CTMC for material transfer and the part transfer protocol to meet the functional requirements of modem advanced cluster tools. We also discuss mapping objects and services of CTMC to PROFIBUS-FMS communication objects and services. Finally, we explain how to implement the mappings.

  • This paper outlines the three main fieldbus type standards: Foundation Fieldbus; WorldFIP; and the Profibus, each of which have great advantages over traditional instrumentation networking technology. The paper shows, using their specification, how they improve traditional control and data acquisition methods. By analysing the main robust, how the can be used to distribute data around the control system, provided increased diagnostic information, are easy to implement, fault confinement, and move simple control operations from the main controller to the local environment. This will help to segment industrial plants into zones which can control themselves. The main control will then be responsibility high-level control. and interzone communications.

  • In the development of an underwater construction robot, the reliability of the operating system is the most important issue because of its huge maintenance cost, especially in a deep sea application. In this paper, we propose a new redundant architectural design for the hydraulic control system of an underwater construction robot. The proposed architecture consists of dual independent modular redundancy management systems linked with a commercial profibus network. A cold standby redundancy management system consisting of a preprocessing switch circuit is applied to the signal network, and a hot standby redundancy management system is adapted to utilize two main controllers.

  • Networking for manufacturing is gaining importance as a nerve system of computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM). Among the various network types, the most inexpensive type called fieldbus is specifically aimed to interconnect simple devices such as sensors and actuators. For this purpose, there are several choices of the protocols such as Profibus. WorldFIP, Foundation Fieldbus, and IEC/ISA fieldbus. This paper presents the simulation results of Profibus and WorldFIP. Both protocols have been simulated in order to evaluate the performance such as transmission delay and throughput under different protocol parameter settings and traffic conditions.
