  • In every aspect of automotive production, quality, productivity and cost are crucial matters. The purpose of this research is to improve the productivity of slip yoke for automotive propeller shaft. This paper presents how to redesign the component that currently manufactured as forged one body type. Attention was focused on not only reducing processing time but insuring durability of the component simultaneously. In Automotive, propeller shaft is the device for transferring power from engine to axle via transmission, and the slip yoke is one of the main parts in the product. Propeller shafts are subject to torsion and shear stress, they thus need to be strong enough to bear the stress.

  • E-business has received much attention from entrepreneurs, executives, investors, and industry observers recently. The Internet is flourishing and the World Wide Web is growing at an exponential rate In recent years, information has become the critical commodity needed for success in the changing global economic order. Accordingly, business organizations have come to the conclusion that they require an extensive data repository in order to acquire a competitive advantage in a dynamically change market. This rich assortment of data must further be delivered and deliverable enterprise-wide in a secure and cost-efficient manner. Information technology(IT) has created the E-business as a vitally important mechanism for the storage, dissemination, and even the analysis data. The E-business has become increasingly important to a growing number of organizations in Korea in relatively short order. The present study is an attempt to develop a more through understanding of the potential and actual impact of the E-business on organizational functions and activities. Expecially, it also consists of an effort to assess the impact of the E-business on productivity. The research also addresses the issue of how the E-business affects productivity and shapes or modifies business activities. The results of literature review and study revealed that middle managers believe that the extent of the E-business use is significantly related to improvements in overall organizational functions and activities. While communication, decision-making, productivity, work collaboration, and business activities are all enhanced by E-business use, productivity appears to be most dramatically improved by Intranet use.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the productivity of the costal fisheries in Jeonnam Province. In this study, the operational characteristics and Cobb-Douglas production function of coastal fisheries were examined based on a research on the actual condition of costal fisheries (RACF). The statistical analysis of RACF data reveals that Cobb-Douglas production function consists of the three variables: fishing quantity per ton-age, the number of fisherman per ton-age and fishing equipment cost per ton-age. The results of this study show us that the relation and productivity between labor and capital of the operational equipment in the coastal fisheries. If extensive comparable biological and market data become available, analysis model can be widely applied to yield more accurate results.

  • Land-based seaweed (Gracilaria) cultivation systems may provide products with high quality and biosafety for human consumption, as well as for other high value applications. However, a limitation for this land based system is high management costs. The objective of this study was to determine if the management costs for Gracilaria cultivation can be reduced without a decrease in productivity by using $CO_2$ injection along with a high stocking density and high photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), and commercially available fertilizers. When Gracilaria tikvahiae was cultivated at a high stocking density and high PAR, coupled with $CO_2$ enhancement, the productivity was significantly higher than that at a lower stocking density, low light without $CO_2$ injection. We also found that G. tikvahiae grown in a medium of commercially available fertilizer (Jack's Special, JS) showed a similar growth rate and productivity to that grown in von Stosch's enriched (VSE) seawater, while the cost for JS media is only 2% of the cost for VSE. These results suggest that $CO_2$ injection and commercial fertilizer may be a potential way to provide sustainability in land-based Gracilaria cultivation systems.

  • This Study intends to Investigate the economic impact of information technology investment. Six countries in OECD are selected and analyzed to understand the empirical relationship between informatization level and productivity Correlation test and regression analysis are executed, using macro data concerning informatization index, total factor productivity and real output per worker hour The impact of informatization level on productivity is characterized by the time lag effect which is used to explain the productivity paradox in precedent studies. Empirical analysis shows that the higher informatization level and information intensity, the lower time lag effect. The result indicates that IT investment has characteristic as sunk cost and the economic impact is appeared after a certain period of time.

  • Enhancing productivity in earthwork projects is crucial, significantly affecting both time and cost efficiencies. However, existing research in this domain predominantly relies on qualitative data and methodologies, which may not suffice given its critical significance. This study employed the fuzzy DEMATEL method to conduct a structural analysis of variables affecting productivity in construction projects. The findings reveal that plan changes possess the most substantial overall influence on earthwork productivity, with a comprehensive strength rating of 4.58. Additionally, it was observed that precipitation data exerted the most pronounced positive impact, with a rating of 0.48. These insights are anticipated to aid in identifying and prioritizing areas for productivity enhancement in construction projects.

  • The purpose of this study was to broaden our knowledge on the productivity and costs of felling operation in three different harvesting methods(whole tree, tree-length and cut-to-length). Felling was conducted in three different harvesting methods with two workers who have different work experiences. Worker A and B have had felling experiences for about 5 years and 15 years, respectively. Felling productivity in whole tree method was $10.3m^3/SMH$ for worker A and $12.7m^3/SMH$ for worker B. Felling costs for worker A and B were $2,066won/m^3$ and $2,201won/m^3$, respectively. Although felling productivity of worker B in whole tree method was higher than worker A, felling costs of worker A were similar to worker B because the wage of worker B was more expensive than the wage of worker A (p>0.05). In tree-length method, felling cost of worker B were cheaper than that of worker A. Felling productivity and cost in tree-length method were $2.2m^3/SMH$ and $9,890won/m^3$ for worker A and $3.3m^3/SMH$ and $8,459won/m^3$ for worker B, respectively (p<0.05). In cut-to-length method, felling productivity and cost were $2.3m^3/SMH$ and $9,584won/m^3$ for worker A and $3.0m^3/SMH$ and $9,395won/m^3$ for worker B, respectively. Felling productivity of worker B was higher than that of worker A(p>0.05). Our preliminary results found that harvesting methods and worker's experiences highly affect on the productivity and costs of felling operations. These results should be useful for forest managers when planning cost-effective harvesting operations.

  • The rebar work is a labor intensive construction work with a high labor cost ratio. It is difficult to manage the productivity, construction time, and safety of rebar work. The problem of productivity decreased in rebar construction is due to a lack of workers according to the aged workers. Partial prefabrication rebar can be an alternative solution to productivity decreased in rebar work. The characteristic of partial prefabrication method is that time consuming component such as stirrup of beam assemble in factory and others assemble in site. Therefore, in this study, the time required for each rebar assembly method is measured and analyzed to confirm the possibility of productivity improvement.

  • Additional costs as well as schedule delay are occurred due to change orders in today's construction projects. Additional costs, overhead calculation methods are of various types. In a foreign country cases, many claims related to the loss of labor productivity quote research statistics data. In domestic cases, the study of the reason why the loss of labor productivity occurs and its effect have not been performed. Therefore, this paper analyzes factors affecting lost productivity and a methodology is presented to estimate the lost productivity.

  • This paper presents the practical goals and approaches to drive forward informatization of small and medium enterprises(SMES). The presented goals such as productivity, duedate, production cost, and quality measurements are used effectively in the previous diagnosis and the post evaluation for the business of the informatization. As the practical approaches to improve these goals, This study considers the importance of balancing, sequencing, and scheduling. These methods ease the congestion of production sites of SMES with insufficient competitiveness and can contribute to the promotion of informatization that improves productivity and cuts down the cost of production effectively.
