  • Advanced Railway countries are developing technologies of production and management for low-carbon and green growth of their railway industry to hold a dominant position under post-Tokyo protocol regime through integrated approach which uses environmental quantitative analysis of train life cycle by using LCA(Life Cycle Assessment). On the contrary, Korea railroad industry attempts to make an environmental improvement only for using regenerative energy and improvement in operating energy consumption through adapting reduction weight of material technology and etc. without systematic environmental analysis approaches such as comparing and analyzing energy consumption as well as GHG emission in each life cycle stages of train. Therefore, In this paper, low-carbon management and comprehensive environmental improvement for sustainable development of Korea railway industry through analyzing the result of life cycle analysis in abroad are suggested.

  • Microalgal bioremediation of CO2, nutrients, endocrine disruptors, hydrocarbons, pesticides, and cyanide compounds have evaluated comprehensively. Microalgal mitigation of nutrients originated from municipal wastewaters, surface waters, and livestock wastewaters has shown great applicability. Algal utilization on secondary and tertiary treatment processes might provide unique and elegant solution on the removing of substances originated from various sources. Microalgae have displayed 3 growth regimes (autotrophic, heterotrophic, and mixotrophic) through which different organic and inorganic substances are being utilized for growth and production of different metabolites. There are still some technology challenges requiring innovative solutions. Strain selection investigation should be directed towards identification of algal that are extremophiles. Understanding and manipulation of metabolic pathways of algae will possible unfold solution to utilization of algae for mitigation of dissolve organic nitrogen in wastewaters.

대형선망어업에 있어서 고등어 (Scomber japonicus) 어장의 어황변동 (Variation of fisheries conditions of mackerel (Scomber japonicus) fishing ground for large purse seine fisheries)

  • In order to offer data about fisheries resources management and prediction of catch on large purse seine fisheries, the fluctuation of the fisheries condition and distributions of fishing ground for mackerel were analysed with monthly catch data for 1990.2009. The overall catch has decreased to about 70% since 1997, with approximately 70% of the mackerel (Scomber japonicus) catch and monthly fluctuations showing a similar pattern. Monthly distribution of fishing ground is like distribution of mackerel in large purse seine fishery. The main fishing grounds are near Jeju Island and the Yellow sea with the main fishing season existing between October to December. The catches fluctuations and distribution of fishing ground were related to the effect of regime shifts. Therefore, in order to prediction of catch on large purse seine fisheries should be studied these relationships.

  • The GaAs semiconductor whispering gallery modes, produced in the peripheral Rayleigh band region of W/sub Rayleigh/ = (${\Phi}$/2)( 1-n/sub eff/n), exhibit novel properties of ultralow thresholds open to nano-ampere regime associated with photonic quantum ring (PQR) production (Fig 1 (a)). The PQR phenomena are associated with a photonic field-driven phase transition of quantum well(QW)-to-quantum wire (QWR) and hence the photonic (non-de Broglie) quantum corral effects, on the Rayleigh cavity confined carriers in dynamic steady state, occur as schematically shown in Fig 1. Ritualism versus Universalism: The Challenge of Establishing an Effective Rights-Based Labor Migration Regime in ASEAN

  • Southeast Asia accounts for nearly a tenth of total worldwide cross-border movements of migrant workers. Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and Philippines make up the sending countries while Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand are the major destinations. Migrant worker movements are predominantly in production process and low- to medium-skilled sectors. It is not unusual for irregular or undocumented movements to take place. In not a few instances, migrants work under harsh and exploitative conditions. In recent years, however, ASEAN has taken steps to manage labor migration at the regional level. The paper argues that ASEAN has not managed these cross-border labor flows as well as it should particularly in terms of protecting and promoting the human rights of migrants. It will be difficult to establish the genuine building blocks for a regional human rights mechanism unless there is a diffusion of alternative universal norms and standards to what ASEAN already embodies. As long as states resist any attempt to weaken or question or deligitimize their capacity to determine who gets to enter, stay, and leave their jurisdictions, it will be difficult to establish an effective migrant rights framework for the region.

CA 저장을 이용한 자두 '추희'의 품질유지 및 저온장해 발생 억제 (Quality Maintenance and Suppression of Chilling Injury of 'Akihime' Plum Fruits Stored under Controlled Atmosphere)

  • 본 연구는 국내산 만생종 자두 품종인 '추희'의 저장성을 향상시키고 저온장해 현상을 감소시키고자 자체 개발된 이동식 CA 장치를 이용하여 최적의 산소 및 이산화탄소 조성을 구명하고자 수행되었다. 상업적 수확시기에 일괄 수확된 자두를 $1^{\circ}C$에서 3% 산소 + 1, 3, 5, 7% 이산화탄소 농도로 조성된 CA chamber에 각각 저장하면서 저장기간별 품질변화, 호흡 및 에틸렌 발생, 저온장해와 부패율 발생을 조사하였다. CA 저장은 일반 저온 저장구에 비해 과실의 호흡량과 에틸렌 발생량은 감소시켜 과실의 품질저하 속도를 늦추었으며 관능평가 결과도 좋게 나타났다. 특히 저온장해 발생률은 CA 처리구에서 일반 저온 저장구에 비해 낮게 나타났다. 하지만 7% 이상의 이산화탄소 농도는 오히려 자두 '추희'의 저온장해 및 부패율을 높이는 결과를 초래하였다. CA 조성 중 3% 산소 + 5% 이산화탄소 조건이 과피 색도와 경도를 유지하고 과육 스폰지화와 내부갈변 등 저온장해 발생을 지연시키는 데 가장 효과적이었다. 본 연구결과 자두 '추희'의 최적 CA 조건은 3% 산소 + 5% 이산화탄소로 $1^{\circ}C$에서 약 50-60일 동안 저장이 가능하였다.

Application of the Polarised Potential-pH Diagrams to Investigate the Role of Sulfate and Dissolved Oxygen in the 3550-ppm NaCl Solution on the Corrosion Behaviour of AISI 316L Stainless Steel

  • The cyclic polarisation technique was applied to determine the corrosion, primary-passivation, transpassive, and protection potential of AISI 316L stainless steels immersed in 3550-ppm NaCl solution containing sulfate in the content up to 3000 ppm. The solutions were kept constant at $27^{\circ}C$ and saturated by laboratory air. The solution pH was varied from 3 to 11. Each type of potentials was plotted in function of pH and linked as lines to determine the different zones in the constructed potential-pH diagram. The predominant regimes of the immunity, general corrosion, perfect passivation, imperfect passivation, and pitting corrosion were determined based on those lines of potentials. Comparing to the potential-pH diagram of specimens immersed in the aerated and deaerated 3550-ppm NaCl solutions, the addition of 3000-ppm $Na_2SO_4$ to these solutions increased the overall, perfect and imperfect, passivation regime by shifting the transpassive-potential line to the noble direction. However, it also widened the imperfect passivation area. The addition of $Na_2SO_4$ did not significantly affect the corrosion potential. It was found that the dissolved oxygen tends to negatively shift the transpassive-potential and protection-potential lines at all studied pH. The considerable effect of dissolved oxygen on corrosion and primary-passivation potentials could not be observed.

혼합배양계에서 활성오니를 이용한 생분해성플라스틱 생산 연구 (Production of Bioplastics from Activated Sludge in a Mixed Culture)

  • 혼합배양계에서 활성오니를 이용하여 유기성폐수로부터 생분해성프라스틱 생산 공정이 연구 검토되었다. 공정은 크게 PHA를 생산할 수 있는 미생물을 선택 분리하는 선택반응기와 분리된 미생물을 이용하여 PHA를 축적 생산하는 축적반응기로 구성되었는데 선택반응기로는 연속회분식반응기(SBR)가 이용되어 초기 접종된 활성오니로부터 PHA 축적미생물을 분리하기 위해 부영양/빈영양 영역을 반복 운전하였으며 PHA 축적미생물은 어떠한 성장 제한이 없는 SBR에서 잘 성장하였으나 PHA 축적률은 미미하였다. 미생물내 PHA 축적을 증대시키기 위해서는 비탄소원의 영양원이 제한된 조건에서 배양이 필요하게되어 별도의 축적반응기를 이용 실험을 실시한 결과 산소 제한은 효율적이지 못하였고 인과 질소 성분의 제한 조건에서 PHA 축적이 비교적 높게 나타났다. 특히 질소 제한조건하의 유가식 기질 공급 실험에서 PHA가 건량기준으로 미생물내 60%까지 축적되는 결과를 보여주었고 PHA 축적속도는 미생물내 PHA 함량에 크게 의존하여 PHA의 함량이 증가됨에 따라 감소하였다.

먹이에 따른 한국산 S-tyoe Rotifer, Brachionus plicatilis의 내구란 생산과 부화율 (Production and Hatching Rate of Resing Egg of Korean Rotifer, Brachionus plicatilis (S-type) with Different Diets)

  • 한국산 rotifer, B. plicatilis, S-type를 대상으로 식물부유생물, 농축 Chlorella 및 효모류에 대한 내구란 생산과 먹이 종류에 따라 생산된 내구란의 부화율을 조사하였다. 4 종류(Chlorella ellipsoidea, Nannochloris oculata, Tetraselmis suecica, Pavlova lutheri) 가운데 N. oculata는 3,760개/20 ml로 가장 많은 내구란을 생산하였다. 그러나 식물부유생물 종류에 따른 부화율의 유의적인 차이는 없었다. 9 종류의 농축먹이(유지효모, 빵효모, 두 종류의 해수산 농축 냉장 Chlorella, 해수산 냉동 Chlorella, 냉동 해수산 Chlorella ($70\%$)+ 빵효모($30\%$), 냉동 해수산 Chlorella ($30\%$)+ 빵효모($70\%$), 두 종류의 냉장 담수산 Chlorella)에서 내구란 생산이 가장 많은 먹이는 냉동 Chlorella($30\%$)+빵효모($70\%$)와 냉장 담수산 Chlorella에서 각각 283개/ml로 나타났다. Rotifer $10^4$개체와 건조 먹이 1 mg당 내구란 생산은 냉동 Chlorella ($30\%$)+빵효모($70\%$)에서 각각 5,566개와 2,131개로 가장 높게 나타났다. 농축 먹이에 따른 내구란의 부화율은 유지효모가 $67.4\%$로 가장 높았다. 본 연구의 결과, 경제적인 내구란 생산을 위하여 빵효모와 농축 냉동 Chlorella를 혼합하여 공급하는 것이 효과적인 것으로 판단된다.

수도권에서 오존생성 기여도 산출에 관한 연구 (Evaluation of Incremental Reactivity and Ozone Production Contribution of VOCs Using the PAMS Data in Seoul Metropolitan Area)

  • Ozone creation potentials suited for Seoul metropolitan area was derived by utilizing the PAMS monitoring data and the source inventory. A simple box model with variable height was developed to calculate the incremental reactivity for all the ozone episode days in the year 2003 and 2004. RIR (Relative Incremental Reactivity) was introduced as a measure of contribution to ozone generation in the Seoul metropolitan area. RIR was defined as a function of ratio of VOC to $NO_x$ and therefore it addresses both VOC and $NO_x$ limited regime. For the days that more than 10 monitoring stations out of 27 monitoring station in Seoul recorded the daily maximum ozone concentrations higher than 70 ppb, toluene had the highest RIR value in all the type II and type III PAMS site and m/p-xylene followed with the second highest RIR value. Analyses using MIR (Maximum Incremental Reactivity) and POCP (Photochemical Ozone Creation Potential) instead of RIR also yields dominance of toluene and m/p-xylene in generating ozone concentrations to demonstrate the validity of RIR.
