In light of the importance of helium production in influencing the behaviour of fast reactor fuels, in this work we present a burn-up module with the objective to calculate the production of helium in both in-pile and out-of-pile conditions tracking the evolution of 23 alpha-decaying actinides. This burn-up module relies on average microscopic cross-section look-up tables generated via SERPENT high-fidelity calculations and involves the solution of the system of Bateman equations for the selected set of actinide nuclides. The results of the burn-up module are verified in terms of evolution of actinide and helium concentrations by comparing them with the high-fidelity ones from SERPENT, considering two representative test cases of (U,Pu)O2 fuel in fast reactor conditions. In addition, a code-to-code comparison is made with the independent state-of-the-art module TUBRNP (implemented in the TRANSURANUS fuel performance code) for the same test cases. The herein presented burn-up module is available in the SCIANTIX code, designed for coupling with fuel performance codes.
This study was conducted to evaluate seasonal effects on production performance of lactation sows reared in two different environments in South Korea. A total of 76 sows ($Landrace{\times}Yorkshire$) from the Dankook University experimental farm and 120 sows ($Landrace{\times}Yorkshire$) from a commercial farm were collected. In the current study, reduced (p < 0.01) feed intake and energy intake during lactation were observed in warm season compared with cool season in both farms. Sows in cool season had higher backfat thickness at weaning but lower back fat loss (p < 0.01) than those in warm season. The weaning to estrus interval was lower (p < 0.01) in cool season than in warm season. Piglets weaned in warm season had lower (p < 0.01) body weight (BW), body weight gain (BWG), and average daily gain (ADG) at weaning than did those weaned in cool season on the Dankook University farm, whereas the reduction effect was only observed during 0 - 21 d on the commercial farm (p < 0.01). Moreover, piglets weaned in cool season had higher BW, BWG, and ADG (p < 0.05) on both farms. In conclusion, our results indicate that warm season had very negative effects on feed intake and production performance of lactating sows and piglets.
This study investigates the organizational factors including firm size, adaptive capability, absorptive capability, innovative capability, and executive support to determine internet of things, production and services, and organizational performance. Research design, data, and methodology: A quantitative methodology was employed, involving the distribution of surveys to 460 employees occupying managerial and strategic roles. These individuals have accrued a minimum of one year of experience within 20 leading manufacturing and distribution companies in Thailand, each boasting a workforce exceeding 250 employees. Sampling techniques utilized encompass judgmental, quota, and snowball sampling. Furthermore, analysis of the data was conducted through Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Model (SEM). Results: The findings indicate that factors such as firm size, adaptive capability, absorptive capability, and innovative capability exert significant influence on the Internet of Things (IoT). In addition, IoT significantly impacts both production and services. Furthermore, the study highlights the significant influence of production and services on organizational performance. However, the anticipated relationship between executive support and IoT lacks support according to the results. Conclusions: This study highlights the transformative potential of IoT for the manufacturing and distribution sector, paving the way for enhanced efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability in a rapidly evolving business landscape.
Production control is usually composed of due-dote assignment, production input control, and priority dispatching rule. A production input control(PIC) is mainly to control the WIP level on the shop floor. On the other hand, a priority dispatching rule(PDR) is mainly to control the tardiness/earliness of on order and number of tardy jobs. Therefore, if we select a particular PIC which can control only a particular performance measure(i.e., tardiness), it may cause worsening other performance measure(i.e., WIP level, shopfloor time, etc.) This newly developed production input control, DRD(Dual Release-Dates), is mainly designed to control the WIP level on the shop floor by employing two different release-dates of an order(earliest release. date and latest release-date and the release condition (relationship between the current WIP level and the pre-defined maximum WIP level) while trying to meet the due-date of the order.
Most studies on the operation policy for AS/RS concluded that the class-based storage policy has better performance than random storage policy does. However ASRS performances are examined only with the assumption of fixed production quantity in the studies. It is true that production quantity of each item changes frequently in practice. If an ASRS keeps the current storage policy regardless of production quantity variation, the performance of present storage policy will be worse. The effect of production quantity variation per product between 10 and 80% with random storage policy and class-based storage policy with reassignment and relocation are studied. The results are compared with both of the randomized and class-based storage policies without reassignment nor relocation cases. A typical ASRS system is developed using GPSS/PC for operation policy evaluation purposes.
This paper proposes a new resource allocation system where overall performance can be improved using production smoothing method. In economic point of view, market price is determined by the market mechanism that is subject to the law of demand and supply. Similarly, agents determine whether to allocate tasks to machines by profit and loss or not. In existing resource allocation system, tasks are exclusively allocated to agents with better manufacturing conditions, because they are evaluated by the only currency. But in the proposed resource allocation system, agents are evaluated by not only a currency but also machine specifications. Hereby, the production smoothing is achieved and we expect to improve system performance In this study, we propose a resource allocation system with consideration of Production Smoothing.
In this paper we propose new approximate method for the performance analysis of closed-loop production system with unreliable machines and random processing times. The approximate method decomposes the production system consisting of K machines into a set of K subsystems, each subsystem consisting of two machines separated by a finite buffer. Then, each subsystem is analyzed by analyzing method n isolation. The population constraint of the closed-loop production system is taken into account by prescribing that the sum of average buffer level in the subsystems is equal to the number of customers in the closed-loop production system,. We establish a set of equations that characterizes unknown parameters of the servers in the subsystems. An iterative procedure is then used to determine the unknown parameters. Experimental results show that these methods provide a good estimation of the throughput.
In this paper we propose new approximate methods for the performance analysis of closed-loop production systems with unreliable machines and random processing times. Each approximate method decomposes the production system consisting of K machines into a set of K subsystems, each subsystem consisting of two machines separated by a finite buffer. Then, each subsystem is analyzed by three different analyzing methods in isolation. The population constraint of the closed-loop production system is taken into account by prescribing that the sum of average buffer levels in the subsystems is equal to the number of customers in the closed-loop production system. We establish a set of equations that characterize unknown parameters of the servers in the subsystems. An iterative procedure is then used to determine the unknown parameters. Experimental results show that these methods provide a good estimation of the throughput.
Purpose: Self-sufficiency in paper production is desired in Nigeria. This study was aimed at evaluating the performance of a locally fabricated batch pulp digester. Methods: The pulp yields of sheaths generated as waste in the production of bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris) laminates were determined at different liquor concentrations and treatment time after preliminary experiments to ascertain the conditions under which the sheath started to pulp. Moreover, the optimum pulping conditions and fiber characteristics were determined and estimated, respectively, to ascertain the pulp fiber suitability for paper production. Results: An optimum pulp yield of 65.1% was obtained at 50% NaOH and 25% $Na_2S$ liquor concentration (w/w) when the cooking time was 4 h. The results of fiber characterization of the pulp indicated an average fiber length of 2.19 mm with a low Runkel ratio of 1.63, both of which signify the suitability of the pulp for medium quality paper production. Conclusions: Softwood pulp can be blended with the fibers to improve the strength of the produced paper; further investigation should be carried out to use other non-woody plants for pulp and papermaking.
