Attention is a fundamental aspect in the cognitive process of human. Cognitive system of human body requires to focus on selected information among a vast amount of information from sensory organs. It has widely studied that various environmental factors affected the level of attention; however, few researches have aimed to the effect of direct cryotherapy. In this research, level of attention was studied comparing sub-indexes of FAIR test between groups with different duration of direct cryotheapy to the back of neck. FAIR test is a evaluation tool for visual attention consisting of three sub-indexes. Selective attention, accuracy of attention, and persistence of attention can be independently analyzed by FAIR test. In the analysis of selective attention, cryotherapy for 5 to 20 minutes showed higher result than cryotherapy for 40 minutes. In the analysis of persistence of attention, cryotherapy for 5 to 15 minutes showed higher result than cryotherapy for 40 minutes. Overall, selective attention and persistence of attention turns out to be maximized between 5 to 20 minutes of cryotherapy and tends to decrease afterwards. However, accuracy of attention does not seem to be affected by the duration of cryotherapy. Correlation between selective attention and the skin temperature by cryotherapy tends to be negative supporting the findings by ANOVA and post-hoc test. Correlation between persistence of attention and the skin temperature showed similar results.
The purpose of this study was to examine related variables that improve learning outcomes in collaborative learning. Based on literature reviews, emotional intelligence was used as a variable of personal character, communication ability and collective intelligence were used as variables in learning process, and learning satisfaction, and persistence were used as variables of learning outcomes. Data were collected from 3,475 students at A university, and were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results of this study are as follows: First, it turned out that emotional intelligence had a significant and positive impact on communication ability, collective intelligence, learning satisfaction, and persistence. Second, communication ability influenced collective intelligence and persistence positively. Third, collective intelligence influenced learning satisfaction and persistence positively. Fourth, learning satisfaction had a significant and positive impact on persistence. These findings offer basic data for collaborative learning by revealing the structural relationships among related variables that improve learning outcomes in collaborative learning of college students.
The persistence of the employment shock by COVID-19 has various policy implications during the pandemic and beyond it. After evaluating the impact of the health crisis at the individual level, this study decomposes employment losses into persistent and transitory components using the observed timing of the three major outbreaks and subsequent lulls. The estimation results show that while face-to-face services were undoubtedly hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis, the sectoral shock was less persistent for temporary jobs and self-employment. Permanent jobs in the hard-hit sector showed increasingly large persistent losses through the recurring crises, indicating gradual changes in employer responses. The persistent job losses were concentrated on young and older workers in career transitions, whose losses are likely to have long-term effects. These results suggest that targeted measures to mitigate the persistent effects of the employment shock should take priority during the recovery process.
In this paper, we adopt Storage Class Memory, which is next-generation non-volatile RAM technology, as part of main memory parallel to DRAM, and exploit the SCM+DRAM main memory system from the dependability perspective. Our system provides instant system on/off without bootstrapping, dynamic selection of process persistence or non-persistence, and fast recovery from power and/or software failure. The advantages of our system are that it does not cause the problems of checkpointing, i.e., heavy overhead and recovery delay. Furthermore, as the system enables full application transparency, our system is easily applicable to real-world environments. As proof of the concept, we implemented a system based on a commodity Linux kernel 2.6.21 operating system. We verify that the persistence enabled processes continue to execute instantly at system off-on without any state and/or data loss. Therefore, we conclude that our system can improve availability and reliability.
With the growing importance of technology innovation as a key factor for firms' competitive advantage, 'innovation persistence' became also an important research subject. 'Innovation Persistence' is a concept that indicates whether or not firms' innovation activity or performance continues. However, the data used for innovation studies are carried out as cross-sectional surveys in most countries. For this reason, studies dealing with longitudinal aspect of innovation persistence are rare. In particular, there is almost no research on innovation persistence using Korean innovation survey data. This study reviews the concepts and characteristics of innovation persistence based on extant literature, and perform an empirical analysis on the status and features of Korean firms' technology innovation persistence. Based on the data of the Korean Innovation Survey (KIS) conducted every other year from 2012 to 2018, panel data on 3,379 firms which observed multiple times are constructed. As a result, only part of the firms with persistent innovation were observed (for innovation performance 10~12%, for innovation activity 15~17%), and it was found that the persistence of non-innovation was remarkable(about 52~57%). And it was confirmed that the persistence of innovation activities is stronger than that of innovation performance. Besides, some features by sub-types of innovation appeared. Product innovation showed higher persistence than process innovation, and internal R&D also showed higher persistence than joint/external R&D. As a result of additional logit analysis to identify factors, it was found that radical or gradual product innovation is the most influential factor in persisting innovation in the next period. Since the sample selection bias due to a limitations of raw data might exist in the panel data constructed in this study, it should be noted that faulty generalization of the results are not allowed. Nevertheless, this is the first study to examine the technology innovation persistence targeting Korean firms and is expected to be a starting point for follow-up studies. It is anticipated that advanced research results will be drawn through the establishment of official panel data and improved methodologies.
Since last several decades, iconic memory has been accepted theoretically valid for its role of the first storage mechanism in visual memory process. However, there have been relatively less interests in iconic memory among researchers than their interests in visual short- and long-term memory. Such little interests seem to arise from a lack of detailed understandings of theories and methodologies about iconic memory and visual persistence. This study aimed to achieve the understandings by reviewing theories and empirical studies of iconic memory and visual persistence. The study further discussed future direction of iconic memory research according to the essential aspects of phenomenological and ecological criticisms against the validity of iconic memory.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the structural relationship among self-leadership, grit, and performance.Specifically, self-leadership was selected as an independent variable, two dimensions of grit were selected as mediator variables, and performance was selected as a dependent variable. This structural equation model is based on previous studies. The subjects of this study were middle and high school Taekwondo players, and the survey was collected using the online survey system KSDC (Korean Social-Science Data Center). The sampling method was a non-probability sampling method, convenience sampling method.A total of 367 copies were collected through this process, and 355 copies were used as the final valid samples after excluding the insincere data.Data processing was done with SPSS 23 for frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis. Also, AMOS 21 was used for confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model analysis. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, self-leadership had a positive effect on bothi interest consistency grit and effort persistence grit. Second, it was found that both interest consistency grit and effort persistence grit have a positive effect on performance.Third,self-leadership had a positive effect on performance.
The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the GRIT of the students who major in landscaping upon their will to continue online learning and the mediating effect of the academic engagement in this process. For this purpose, the researcher surveyed the landscape major students in the universities located in Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, from November 25, 2021, to December 9, 2021. The result of the analysis of the responses from 296 participants showed that the GRIT of the landscaping major students during online learning in their universities had a positive and significant impact on their academic engagement and learning persistence. Also, academic engagement had a positive and significant impact on learning persistence. In addition, in the relationship between GRIT of the landscaping major students in online learning and their learning persistence, academic engagement had a significant mediating effect. The findings of this study indicated that the GRIT and the academic engagement of a student were important in order to enhance the learning persistence during online learning for landscaping major students. Due to the nature of landscaping departments, where practical classes are important because the subject itself is a practice-oriented one and the subject covers a variety of areas, it is the implication of this study that the internal factors of students, as well as the external factors of the university, need positive improvement to reinforce the academic engagement during online learning.
We propose a mathematical model with Holling type II functional response, to study the dynamics of vaccination. In order to make our model more realistic, we have incorporated the recruitment of infected individuals as a continuous process. We have assumed that vaccination cannot be perfect and there is always a possibility of re-infection. We have obtained the existence of a disease free and endemic equilibrium point, when the recruitment of infective is not considered and also obtained the existence of at least one endemic equilibrium point when recruitment of infective is considered. We have proved that if Rv < 1, disease free equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable, which leads to the elimination of the disease from the population. The persistence of the model has also been established. Numerical simulations have been done to establish the results obtained.
This paper presents a methodology to determine safe persistence of objects from C code during reengineering process. The methodology consists of five steps: the static information methodology, reflection, instantiation, and the refinement. The steps assist to a reengineer to decide appropriate construction and destruction points of an object during its life cycle. Further the steps guarantee safe and consistent interactions among objects.
