  • In the early stage of weapon system acquisition process, acquisition policy is necessarily established to acquire weapon system in a faster, better, cheaper way. Several alternatives, such as "buy", "domestic research and development", and "technical corporative production", can be considered for the best acquisition policy making. However, the comparison factors for those alternatives have different metrics and values. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to suggest KAAM(Knowledge-based Alternatives Analysis Model) as a scientific method to compare the alternatives having such different metrics and values and giving a weighted and normalized single measurement for the easy comparison. KAAM is a hybrid model incorporating Satty technique, Delphi/Shang method, Consensus method, and SAW method. KAAM is implemented on Microsoft Excel environment and provided tabular form user interface. Finally, an illustrative example is shown using KAAM.

  • The size of crystallites in mono-dispersed cubic silver bromide grains was measured by applying a powder X-ray diffraction method and Scherrer's equation to grains that were suspended in swollen gelatin layers. In order to evaluate the existence of defects, the measured crystallite size was compared to those measured by using a scanning electron microscope. In the case of the grains prepared by the controlled double jet method, the size of crystallites was equal to the edge length of the grains that had edge lengths smaller than 400 nm. This result proved the usefulness of the above-stated method for measuring the size of crystallites and also evaluating the presence of any crystal defect in each grain. In the case of the grains, which were precipitated in the presence of a sensitizing dye and potassium iodide, the size of crystallites was smaller than the edge's length, indicating the discontinuities in the grains introduced during the precipitation process.

  • A process of 3-D particle image velocimetry, called here, as '3-D stereo PIV' was developed for the measurement of a section field of 3-D complex flows. The present method includes modeling of camera by a calibrator based on the homogeneous coordinate system, transfromation of oblique-angled image to transformed image, identification of 2-D velocity vectors by 2-D cross-correlation equation, stereo matching of 2-D velocity vectors of two cameras, accurate calculation of 3-D velocity vectors by homogeneous coordinate system and finally 3-D animation as the post processing. In principle, as two frame images only are necessary for the single instantaneous analysis of a section field of 3-D flow, more effective vectors are obtainable contrary to the previous multi-frame vector algorithm. An experimental system was also used for the application of the proposed method. Three analog CCD cameras and an Argon-Ion Laser(300mW) for illumination were adopted to capture the wake flow behind a bluff obstacle.

  • An automated injection molding design methodology has been developed to optimize multiple quality attributes, which are usually in conflict with each other, in injection molded parts. For the optimization, commercial CAE simulation tools and optimization techniques are integrated into the methodology. To decal with the multiple objective problem the relative closeness computed in TOPSIS(Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) is used as a performance measurement index for optimization multiple part defects. To attain robustness against process variation, Taguchi's quadratic loss function is introduced in the TOPSIS. Also, the modified complex method is used as an optimization tool to optimize objective function. The verification of the developed design methodology was carried out on simulation software with an actual model. Applied to production this methodology will be useful to companies in reducing their product development time and enhancing their product quality.

  • Recently, there has been an increasing demand for computer-vision based inspection and/or measurement system as a part of factory automation equipment. Existing manual inspection method can inspect only specific samples and has low measuring accuracy as well as it increases working time. Thus, in order to improve the objectivity and reproducibility, computer-aided analysis method is needed. In this paper, front and side profile inspection and/or data transfer system are developed using computer-vision during the inspection process on three kinds of pipes coming from a forming line. Straight line and circle are extracted from profiles obtained from vision using Laplace operator. To reduce inspection time, Hough Transform is used with clustering method for straight line detection and the center points and diameters of inner and outer circle are found to determine eccentricity and whether good or bad. Also, an inspection system has been built that each pipe's data and images of good/bad test are stored as files and transferred to the server so that the center can manage them.

  • In this paper, the design of damped structures associated with the piezoelectric shunt circuits is undertaken and it is applied to optical disk drive (O.D.D) main base in order to reduce unwanted vibration. In order to design effective piezoelectric structure, the admittance of the structure is introduced as the performance index of the piezoelectric shunt system. And the admittance offset of the shunt performance is theoretically investigated. It is also presented that the admittance can be calculated by commercial finite elements program. To verify the admittance calculated by F.E.M, admittance measurement is performed by impedance analyzer. In this verifying process, the validity of the finite element admittance analysis is found. As a practical approach, to reduce the vibration of the O.D.D. main base, piezoelectric shunt system is designed using the proposed admittance analysis and shunt effect is evaluated at all prescribed frequencies.

  • 355nm UV pulse laser is irradiated on the surface of polyimide (PI) by LDW (Laser Direct Writing) method to produce a high sensitivity flexible humidity sensor using a simple one-step process. The LDW method continuously investigates 2-D CAD data using a galvano scanner and an F-lens. This method is non-contact, so it minimizes physical strain on the PI. Laser-induced graphene (LIG) produced by lasers has a high surface area due to its high flexibility and numerous pores and oxidizers compared to conductors. For this reason, it is highly useful as a flexible humidity sensor. The humidity sensor produced in this study was attached to the inside of a mask filter, which has become a hot topic recently, and its applicability was confirmed. The measurement of humidity measured the sensitivity, reactivity, stability and recovery behavior of the sensor by measuring changes in capacitance and resistance.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the physicochemical properties of frozen pork muscle which has been thawed using the ohmic thawing process, and to establish the optimal ohmic power intensity. The samples were frozen at $-40^{\circ}C$ and thawed at 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 V by ohmic thawing. Increasing ohmic power intensity correlated with increased thawing rates. The relationship between ohmic power intensity and thawing rate can be represented as a polynomial function. The pH value decreased with increasing ohmic power intensity (p<0.05). With regard to color measurement, the $L^*$, a, and b values of thawing at all ohmic power intensities were not significantly different. The water holding capacity showed a peak value of 41.62% with an ohmic thawing intensity of 30 V. Cooking losses were lowest at the lowest ohmic thawing intensity of 10 V. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) levels with all thawing processes were slightly higher than that of the control (p<0.05). Increasing ohmic power intensity did not tend to change the total volatile basic nitrogen (TVBN) value.

  • Fit of the restoration and its cementation procedure is crucial to both its short and long term prognosis. Marginal fit is affected by many variables during the fabrication process. These variables, being intrinsic properties of the materials or the clinical technique used, can cause changes in the size and shape of the definitive restoration. Even if all variables are controlled carefully, the seating of a restoration can still be affected due to insufficient space for the luting agent. The use of die spacer can reduce the elevation of a cast restoration of a prepared tooth, decreased seating time, improve the outflow of excess cement, and lower the seating forces. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal fidelity according to die spacer application times and measurement site. Casting alloys were prepared and fabricated using non-precious metal at $950^{\circ}C$. Specimens are divided into four groups: I(die spacer painted casting for wax pattern), II(die spacer non painted casting for wax pattern). The specimens were cut and polished for marginal gap observation. The marginal gap was observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

  • This paper presents the effects of a virtual mass with a low-pass filter on the stability boundary of a virtual spring in the haptic system. In general, a haptic system consists of a haptic device, a sampler, a virtual impedance model and zero-order-hold. The virtual impedance is modeled as a virtual spring and a virtual mass. However the high-frequency noise due to the sampling time and the quantization error of sampled data may be generated when an acceleration is measured to compute the inertia force of the virtual mass. So a low-pass filter is needed to prevent the unstable behavior due to the high-frequency noise. A finite impulse response (FIR) filter is added to the measurement process of the acceleration and the effects on the haptic stability are simulated. According to the virtual mass with the FIR filter and the sampling time, the stability boundary of the virtual spring is analyzed through the simulation. The maximum available stiffness to guarantee the stable behavior is reduced, but simulation results still show that the stability boundary of the haptic system with the virtual mass is larger than that of the haptic system without the virtual mass.
