Silicon nitride films grown by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) are useful for a variety of applications, including anti-reflecting coatings in solar cells, passivation layers, dielectric layers in metal/insulator structures, and diffusion masks. PECVD systems are controlled by many operating variables, including RF power, pressure, gas flow rate, reactant composition, and substrate temperature. The wide variety of processing conditions, as well as the complex nature of particle dynamics within a plasma, makes tailoring SiN film properties very challenging, since it is difficult to determine the exact relationship between desired film properties and controllable deposition conditions. In this study, SiN PECVD modeling using optimized neural networks has been investigated. The deposition of SiN was characterized via a central composite experimental design, and data from this experiment was used to train and optimize feed-forward neural networks using the back-propagation algorithm. From these neural process models, the effect of deposition conditions on film properties has been studied. A recipe synthesis (optimization) procedure was then performed using the optimized neural network models to generate the necessary deposition conditions to obtain several novel film qualities including high charge density and long lifetime. This optimization procedure utilized genetic algorithms, hybrid combinations of genetic algorithm and Powells algorithm, and hybrid combinations of genetic algorithm and simplex algorithm. Recipes predicted by these techniques were verified by experiment, and the performance of each optimization method are compared. It was found that the hybrid combinations of genetic algorithm and simplex algorithm generated recipes produced films of superior quality.
The gerotor type device is mainly used in low-speed, high-torque hydraulic motors, and is also applied as a small priming hydraulic pump. For this reason, many studies have been conducted to increase the efficiency of the gerotor pump. In this paper, we propose a new tooth profile design method different from the existing method. The new tooth design is made by modifying the tooth surface using the amplification function of the trajectories, created along the inner and outer rolling circles around the base circle. The shape of the mate rotor is then created using rotation simulation techniques. Such shapes are described as hypercloid. The designed hypercloid rotor is compared with the existing trochoid rotor, and the characteristics of the parameters and volumetric displacements are analyzed. Through this process, the optimum design with larger volumetric displacement than the existing rotor is achieved.

First, in this study, the inhibition efficiencies of metal complexes with Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) of STSC ligand for corrosion control of mild steel in oilfield formation water were investigated. The IEs for a mixture of 500 ppm STSC and 5 ppm metal ion ($Cu^{+2}$, $Ni^{+2}$, $Zn^{+2}$) were found to be 88.77, 87.96 and 85.13 %, respectively. The results were obtained from the electrochemical techniques such as open circuit potential, linear and tafel polarization methods. The polarization studies have showed that all used Schiff base metal complexes are anodic inhibitors. The protective film has been analyzed by FTIR technique. Also, to detect the presence of the iron-inhibitor complex, UV-Visible spectral analysis technique was used. The inhibitive effect was attributed to the formation of insoluble complex adsorbed on the mild steel surface and the adsorption process follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The surface morphology has been analyzed by SEM. Secondly, the computational studies of the ligand and its metal complexes were performed using DFT (B3LYP) method with the $6-311G^{{\ast}{\ast}}$ basis set. Finally, it is found that the experimental results were closely related to theoretical ones.
Restoration of contaminated soils to an environmentally acceptable condition is important. One of the newer techniques in soil remediation is a method based on electrokinetic phenomena in soils. The technology uses electricity to affect chemical concentrations and water flow through the pores of soils. An important advantage of electrokinetic soil remediation over other in-situ processes such as soil flushing is the capability of control over the movement of the contaminants. Because the migration of the contaminants is confined by the electric field, there is little dispersion outside the treatment zone. Furthermore, the process is effective for soils with low and variable permeability. In the present study, the distributions of cadmium in the electrokinetic processing of kaolinite under the condition of constant applied voltage are investigated. Cadmium accumulates near the cathode without reducing the diffusion of hydroxide ion into the soil. In keeping the catholyte pH at neutrality, cadmium migrates toward the cathode without any accumulation of cadmium near the cathode and is successfully removed at the cathode reservoir. It was also found that the progress of electrokinetic processing of cadmium could be gasped to a certain extent by monitoring the local voltage and the current density.
Restenosis after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) continues to be a serious problem in clinical cardiology. To solve this problem, drug eluting stents (DES) with antiproliferative agents have been developed. Variable local drug delivery systems in the context of stenting require the development of stent manufacture, drug pharmacology and coating technology. We have worked on a system that integrates electrophoretic deposition (EPD) technology with the polymeric nanoparticles in DES for local drug delivery and a controlled release system. The surface morphology and drug loading amount of DES by EPD have been investigated under different operational conditions, such as operation time, voltage and the composition of media. We prepared poly-D,L-lactide-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles embedded with curcumin, which was done by a modified spontaneous emulsification method and used polyacrylic acid (PAA) as a surfactant because its carboxylic group contribute negative charge to the surface of CPNPs (?53.5 ± 5.8 mV). In the process of ‘trial and error' endeavors, we found that it is easy to control the drug loading amount deposited onto the stent while keeping uniform surface morphology. Accordingly, stent coating by EPD has a wide application to the modification of DES using various kinds of nanoparticles and drugs.

Face recognition refers to the process of identifying individuals based on their facial features. It has recently become one of the most popular research areas in the fields of computer vision, machine learning, and pattern recognition because it spans numerous consumer applications, such as access control, surveillance, security, credit-card verification, and criminal identification. However, illumination variation on face generally cause performance degradation of face recognition systems under practical environments. Thus, this paper proposes an novel face recognition system using a fusion approach based on local binary pattern and two-dimensional principal component analysis. To minimize illumination effects, the face image undergoes the local binary pattern operation, and the resultant image are divided into two sub-images. Then, two-dimensional principal component analysis algorithm is separately applied to each sub-images. The individual scores obtained from two sub-images are integrated using a weighted-summation rule, and the fused-score is utilized to classify the unknown user. The performance evaluation of the proposed system was performed using the Yale B database and CMU-PIE database, and the proposed method shows the better recognition results in comparison with existing face recognition techniques.
To make use of surveying data obtained from different sensors and different techniques in a common reference frame, it is a pre-requite step to register them in a common coordinate system. For this purpose, we have developed a methodology to register IKONOS-2 Satellite Imagery using ALS data. To achieve this, conjugate features from these data should be extracted in advance. In the study, linear features are chosen as conjugate features because they can be accurately extracted from man-made structures in urban area, and more easily than point features from ALS data. Then, observation equations are established from similarity measurements of the extracted features. During the process, considering the characteristics of systematic errors in IKONOS-2 satellite imagery, the transformation function were selected and used. In addition, we also analyzed how the number of linear features and their spatial distribution used as control features affect the accuracy of registration. Finally, the results were evaluated statistically and the results clearly demonstrated that the proposed algorithms are appropriate to register these data.
The harsh nature of welding environments makes welding a prime candidate for process automation. Among the variety of welding processes available, gas metal arc welding is one of the most frequently used methods, primarily because it is highly suited to a wide range of applications, and also to automation. Automatic seam tracking method is one of the most demanded techniques for automatic control of arc welding. In this study a seam tracking system has been developed by using the welding arc itself as a sensor. This paper described the principle and experimental result of the arc sensor system, as well as the development and application of the automatic CO_2$ welding for the horizontal fillet welding. A basic problem in horizontal fillet welding is the prevention of hanging bead formation such as undercut at the vertical plate and overlap at the horizontal plate. To produce the symmetric bead shape, the relationship of bead shape to welding parameters(welding velocity, weaving width, weaving speed, tip to workpiece distance) was also investigated.
There is Increasing world-wide interest in diesel particulate filters (DPF) because of their proven effectiveness in reducing exhaust smoke and particulate emissions. Fine particulates have been linked to human health . DPF use requires a means to secure the bum-out of the accumulated soot, a process called regeneration. If this is not achieved, the engine cannot continue to operate. A number of techniques are available, but most are complex, expensive or have a high electrical demand. The use of fuel additives to catalyse soot bum-out potentially solves the problem of securing regeneration reliably and at low cost. Work on organo-metallic fuel additives has shown that certain metals combine to glove exceptional regeneration performance. Best performance was achieved with a combination of iron and strontium based compounds. Tests were carried out un a bed engine and on road vehicles, which demonstrated effective and reliable regeneration from a tow dose fuel additive, using a single passive DPF. No control valves, flow diverters. heaters or other devices were employed to assist regeneration. Independent particle size measurements showed that there were no harmful side effects from the use of the iron-strontium fuel additive.
