  • Most new products not only suddenly disappear in the market but also quickly cannibalize older products. Under such a circumstance, retailers may have too much stock, and customers may be faced with difficulties discovering products suitable to their preferences among short life cycle products. To address these problems, recommender systems are good solutions. However, most previous recommender systems had difficulty in reflecting changes in customer preferences because the systems employ static customer preferences. In this paper, we propose a recommendation methodology that considers dynamic customer preferences. The proposed methodology consists of dynamic customer profile creation, neighborhood formation, and recommendation list generation. For the experiments, we employ a mobile image transaction dataset that has a short product life cycle. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed methodology has a higher quality of recommendation than a typical collaborative filtering-based system. From these results, we conclude that the proposed methodology is effective under conditions where most new products have short life cycles. The proposed methodology need to be verified in the physical environment at a future time.

  • Complex scheduling problems are related to planning, scheduling, constraint satisfaction problems, object-oriented concepts, and agent systems. Human preference-driven scheduling technique was to solve complex scheduling problems using constraint satisfaction problems and object-oriented concepts. We have tried to apply human preference-driven scheduling technique to reservation problems. For customer's satisfaction, we have considered customer's preferences in the reservation scheduling. The technique of reservation scheduling proposed in this thesis is based on object-oriented concepts. 1'o consider the over all satisfaction, the events of every object are alloted to the board along its priority. Constraints to reservation scheduling are classified to global and local. The definition of board and information of every event are global constraints and the preferences to object's board slots are local constraints. We have applied look-ahead technology to reservation scheduling in order to minimize backtracking not to fail the allotment of events.

  • Collaboration and assistance among peer learners are essential factors for successful learning outcomes. However it is important to investigate students' preferences for computer problem solving methods and interrelationships, since students tend to solve problems more and more by themselves. This is because of the importance of giving appropriate instructions to students. In this context, this paper shows the analysis of the preferred methods and interrelationships of studnets' preferences upon encountering difficulties during computer usage by collecting data from 231 students in K national university of education. As a result, the result shows that students tend to solve problems without asking as they have higher abilities in computer usage, which was also shown to increase along with their grade levels. Furthermore, it showed that students who have family members and relatives, and who are using the internet are more satisfied with their problem solving. Lastly, it is possible to grasp the computer problem solving network within the department by using social network analysis, so it can be used as reference data for selecting the peer learners, which will help to operate the customized computer education practice.

  • This research recognizes the importance of hotel and regular traditional restaurants contributing to tourism industry that goes along with demands of an era that considers traditional culture important, and focuses on searching for possibility by proposing direction of designs that traditional restaurant uniforms should aim. To achieve this study goal, by surveying the problems & preferences of the current uniform, over 60% of both the attendants & customers expected an improvement in the uniform. Most of the subjects wanted the improvement in design, followed by the improvement in functionality. Over 80% preferred traditional design or modernized design where traditional aspects were applied. Also, over 70% preferred a design where a pattern was applied. Among the patterns, over 80% of the subjects said that they prefer traditional patterns or modernized patterns where traditional aspects are applied. We admit that there are some limitations on this study, such as insufficient analysis & study on the attendants' action and their uniform, as well as limitations on restaurant selection. However, Through the study we expect that the Korea uniform can be differentiated from others, achieving World-class competitiveness.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the intakes and preferences related to Korean traditional teas in each of the age groups. The survey was conducted from March $9^{th}$ to $23^{rd}$, 2015. The subjects in this study were 642 adults aged more than 20 years that resided in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. The health status score was 3.57, and the health concern score was 3.54. The reason for preferring traditional tea was 'health' (40.5%) and 'good taste, color, and aroma' (29.7%). The most important factor in drinking a traditional tea was health (37.1%). Acceptance of each type of traditional tea was ranked in order of 'grain tea', 'fruit tea', 'floral leaf tea', 'assorted tea', 'medical root tea', and 'tonic tea'. A total of 92.8% of respondents said traditional teas should be popularized. Regarding problems for popularization of traditional teas, the most common response was 'not popularized yet' (39.7%). Regarding the method for popularization of traditional teas, the most common response was 'convenience of purchase for ingredients'. As a result, preferences for traditional tea and popularization method were different according to age. It is thus necessary to develop traditional tea products considering the age range.

  • As found in research on constraint satisfaction problems, the choice of variable ordering heuristics is crucial for effective solving of constraint optimization problems. For the special problems such as energy-efficient clustering in heterogeneous wireless sensor networks, in which cluster heads have an inclination to be near a base station, we propose a new approach based on the static preferences variable orderings and provide a pnode heuristic algorithm for a specific application. The pnode algorithm selects the next variable with the highest Preference. In our problem, the preference becomes higher when the cluster heads are closer to the optimal region, which can be obtained a Priori due to the characteristic of the problem. Since cluster heads are the most dominant sources of Power consumption in the cluster-based sensor networks, we seek to minimize energy consumption by minimizing the maximum energy dissipation at each cluster heads as well as sensor nodes. Simulation results indicate that the proposed approach is more efficient than other methods for solving constraint optimization problems with static preferences.

  • Preferences on living arrangement and residence of the elderly depend on various changing factors as they get old. Among those factors, predictable and crucial factors are the condition of their health and spouse. Thus, this study is focused on living arrangement and the residential preference of the elderly according to their health and existence of a spouse. A sample of 500 elderly aged over 65 is analyzed by $x^2$ test, and multiple logistic regression. The results could be summarized as follows; First, 45.2% of the elderly who participated in this survey prefer 'living apart from their children but living close by'. And 19.8% of the elderly want to 'live with their children'. Second, the elderly with a spouse and the elderly who live apart from their children tend to prefer living independently. Third, the elderly with good health living in single-family houses and the elderly with high self-esteem tend to prefer the residential facilities for the elderly. Fourth, the elderly with health problems who have generous allowances and live in a city tend to prefer the residential facilities for the elderly. Fifth, factors such as gender, age, condition of health, allowances, living regions, type of house, self-esteem influence residential preferences of the elderly without a spouse. Older men with more allowances, in good health, living in row house and apartment, in a mid-size city tend to prefer living in the residential facilities for the elderly.

  • Recently, researches to improve a quality and a color of a display are being actively studied because of the prosperous growth of the flat panel displays such as LCD, PDP and OLED. Automatically adjusting color temperatures based on user preferences is the one of the researches to provide the optimum display color. In this paper, along with defining the problems of prior methods, the user preferences against the priori defined ranges proposed by the MPEG-7 color temperature descriptor are inspected. Based on the analysis of user preferences, an optimal color temperature conversion curve is proposed. As a result of an analysis by ANOVA, tendencies of the user preferences against each range are proven to be similar to the prior research results. The repetition of the color temperature conversion against an image is not statistically significant.
