When tasks access shared resources in real-time systems, the unbounded priority inversion may occur. In such cases it is impossible to guarantee the schedulability of real-time tasks. Several resource access protocols have been proposed to bound the duration of priority inversion and sufficient conditions are given to guarantee the schedulability of periodic task set. In this paper, we show an improved sufficient condition for schedulability when the dynamic priority ceiling protocol is used. Our approach exploits the fact that a lower priority task can continue to execute as far as the higher priority tasks do not miss their deadlines. This permitting execution time of the higher priority tasks for a lower priority task can be excluded from the worst-case blocking time of the higher priority tasks. Since the worst-case blocking time of tasks can be reduced, the sufficient condition for schedulability of dynamic priority ceiling protocol becomes further tight.
Researches about scheduling distributed real-time systems have some weak points, not scheduling both sporadic and periodic tasks and messages or being unable to guaranteeing the end-to-end constraints due to omitting precedence relations between sporadic tasks. This paper describes the application model of sporadic tasks with precedence constraints in a distributed real-time system. It is shown that existing scheduling methods such as Rate Monotonic scheduling are not proper to be applied to the system having sporadic tasks with precedence constraints. So this paper proposes an end-to-end laxity-based priority assignment algorithm which considers the practical laxity of a task and allocates a proper priority to a task.
In Linux, real-time tasks are supported by separating real-time task priorities from non-real-time task priorities. However, this separation of priority ranges may not be effective when real-time tasks make the system calls that are taken care of by the kernel threads. Thus, Linux is considered a soft real-time system. Moreover, kernel threads are configured to have static priorities for throughputs. The static assignment of priorities to kernel threads causes trouble for real-time tasks when real-time tasks require kernel threads to be invoked to handle the system calls because kernel threads do not discriminate between real-time and non-real-time tasks. We present a dynamic kernel thread scheduling mechanism with weighted average priority inheritance protocol (PIP), a variation of the PIP. The scheduling algorithm assigns proper priorities to kernel threads at runtime by monitoring the activities of user-level real-time tasks. Experimental results show that the algorithms can greatly improve the unexpected execution latency of real-time tasks.

This study aims to develop a curriculum for nurturing experts who perform agricultural safety and health management tasks. This study was conducted in three stages. First, job definitions and job models of agricultural safety and health managers were derived through job analysis using the DACUM technique. Second, job demand analysis was conducted by conducting a survey on the difficulty, importance, and frequency of each task. Third, IPA analysis was performed as the first priority tasks of job demand analysis to present the courses and subjects of the training course for safety and health managers in agricultural work. The job of the agricultural safety and health manager was defined as "to conduct guidance and advice on safety and health education, risk factors, and evaluation and management of harmful factors to protect farmers' professional health and safety." The job model consisted of 4 tasks, 31 core tasks, and 67 detailed tasks. As a result of job demand analysis, there were 39 tasks in the 1st priority, 22 in the 2nd priority, and 6 in the 3rd priority. As a result of the IPA analysis, there were 13 'capacity development focused areas', 4 'capacity development effort areas', 11 'low priority areas', and 3 'continuous maintenance areas'.
In this paper, we present a novel efficient semaphore implementation scheme which diminishes completion time of high priority tasks and improves reliability of a system. The real-time system is constrained to complete their tasks in time. Especially, the task of a hard real-time system must meet its deadline under unfavorable conditions. In this paper, the number and sort of the locked semaphores, when an event occurred, decide whether the context switch should occur or not, so higher priority tasks diminish in their completion time. The experimental results show that the proposed method gives performance improvements in finish time of high priority tasks of about 11% over the Zuberi.

Quality of Service (QoS) awareness is recognized as a key point for the success of Internet of Things (IOT).Realizing the full potential of the Internet of Things requires, a real-time task scheduling algorithm must be designed to meet the QoS need. In order to schedule tasks with diverse QoS requirements in cloud environment efficiently, we propose a task scheduling strategy based on dynamic priority and load balancing (DPLB) in this paper. The dynamic priority consisted of task value density and the urgency of the task execution, the priority is increased over time to insure that each task can be implemented in time. The scheduling decision variable is composed of time attractiveness considered earliest completion time (ECT) and load brightness considered load status information which by obtain from each virtual machine by topic-based publish/subscribe mechanism. Then sorting tasks by priority and first schedule the task with highest priority to the virtual machine in feasible VMs group which satisfy the QoS requirements of task with maximal. Finally, after this patch tasks are scheduled over, the task migration manager will start work to reduce the load balancing degree. The experimental results show that, compared with the Min-Min, Max-Min, WRR, GAs, and HBB-LB algorithm, the DPLB is more effective, it reduces the Makespan, balances the load of VMs, augments the success completed ratio of tasks before deadline and raises the profit of cloud service per second.

Distributed control systems(DCS) using fieldbus such as CAN have been applied to process systems but it is very difficult to design the DCS while guaranteeing the given end-to-end constraints such as precedence constraints, time constraints, and periods and priorities of tasks and messages. This paper presents a scheduling method to guarantee the given end-to-end constraints. The presented scheduling method is the integrated one considering both tasks executed in each node and messages transmitted via the network and is designed to be applied to a general DCS that has multiple loops with several types of constraints, where each loop consists of sensor nodes with multiple sensors, actuator nodes with multiple actuators and controller nodes with multiple tasks. An assignment method of the optimal period of each loop and a heuristic assignment rule of each message's priority are proposed and the integrated scheduling method is developed based on them.
A key challenge in massively multiplayer on-line game(MMOG) systems is providing real-time response latencies to the large number of concurrent game players. MMOG systems are a kind of soft real-time systems because requests from many players should be responded within specified time constraints. Client events have different timeliness and consistency requirements according to their nature in the game world. These requirements lead to tasks with different priorities on CPU processing. In order to meet their timing constraints, we propose priority scheduling methods that attempt to allocate preferentially more CPU bandwidth to serve an task with the higher priority level in the presence of transient overloading. The proposed scheduling methods are capable of enhancing real-time performance of MMOG system by maximizing the number of tasks with higher priority completed successfully within their deadlines while minimizing total average latency of tasks finished after given deadlines. The performance of these scheduling methods is evaluated through extensive simulation experiments.

The scheduling methods of the distributed real-time systems have been proposed. However, they have some weak points. They did not schedule both sporadic and periodic tasks and messages at the same time or did not consider the end-to-end constraints such as precedence relations between sporadic tasks. This means that system scheduling must guarantee the constraints of practical systems and be applicable to them. This paper proposes a new scheduling method that can be applied to more practical model of distributed real-time systems. System model consists of sporadic and periodic tasks with precedence relations and sporadic and periodic messages and has end-to-end constraints. The proposed method is based on a binary search-based period assignment algorithm, an end-to-end laxity-based priority assignment algorithm, and three kinds of schedulability analysis, node, network, and end-to-end schedulability analysis. In addition, this paper describes the application model of sporadic tasks with precedence constraints in a distributed real-time system, shows that existing scheduling methods such as Rate Monotonic scheduling are not proper to be applied to the system having sporadic tasks with precedence constraints, and proposes an end-to-end laxity-based priority assignment algorithm.
