  • As digitalization accelerates, the use of digital information is increasing in public institutions such as schools and libraries, and the demand for print services is also increasing. Among many services, printing service on public PCs should charge fee to printer users, but it is a very difficult task for administrators. Print management solutions have been developed and are now widely used to automate these demanding tasks. In this paper, we analyze the vulnerability of printer management solutions used in public institutions. However, the security awareness of public PC administrators and printer management solution developers seem to be lacking.

A Security Vulnerability Analysis for Printer Kiosks (무인 복합 출력기 솔루션의 취약성 분석)

  • They are frequently used today in public places such as street, subway, school or library. Since users can sometimes print documents that contain confidential data using Printer Kiosks, the devices should store and manage the documents securely. In this paper, we identify potential security threats in Printer Kiosks and suggest practical attack scenarios that can take place. To show the feasibility of suggested attack, we analyzed network traffic that were generated by the real Printer Kiosk device. As a result of our analysis, we have found that attackers can access other users' scanned files and access other users' documents from Printer Kiosk's home page. We confirmed that using our attack, we could retrieve other users' personal data.

  • 디지털 복합기는 프린터, 복사기, 스캐너, 팩스 등의 장치가 결합되어 있는 임베디드 장치로써 출력, 복사, 스캔, 팩스 외에 네트워크 통신을 이용한 원격 유지보수, 다중 사용자가 맞물려 있는 장치이다. 이러한 디지털 복합기는 최근 기업 및 공공기관에서 업무의 효율성 증대와 경비절감을 위해 중요한 문서를 처리하는 장비로 널리 보급되고 있다. 하지만 산업 스파이나 공격자들에 의해 중요한 문서들이 외부로 유출되면서 기업의 피해가 증가하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 디지털 복합기에서 발생할 수 있는 다양한 보안 취약점 및 보안 위협을 기밀성, 무결성, 가용성, 부인방지 측면에서 분석하였다.
