Electroless Nickel Plating on Porous Carbon Substrate (다공성 탄소전극기지상의 무전해 니켈도금에 관한 연구)

  • Electroless nickel plating on porous carbon substrate was investigated. The pore sizes of carbon substrates were 16-20 ${\mu}m$ and over 20 ${\mu}m$. The carbon surface was changed from hydrophobic to hydrophilic after immersing the substrate in an ammonia solution for 40 min at $60^{\circ}C$. The contact angle of water was decreased from $85^{\circ}$ to less than $20^{\circ}$ after ammonia pretreatment. The content of phosphorous in nickel deposit was decreased with increasing pH and then deposits became crystallized. The thickness of nickel deposit was increased with increasing pH. The minimum concentration of $PdCl_2$ for the electroless nickel plating was 5 ppm and the thickness of nickel was not significantly affected by the concentration of $PdCl_2$.

A Study on the Improvement of Adhesion according to the Process Variables of Ion Beam in the Cu/Polyimide Thin Film (이온빔의 공정변수에 따른 Cu/Polyimide 박막의 접착력향상에 관한 연구)

  • In microelectronics packaging, the reliability of the metal/polymer interfaces is an important issue because the adhesion strength between dissimilar materials is often inherently poor. The modification of polymer surfaces by ion beam irradiation and rf plasma is commonly used to enhance the adhesion strength of the interface. T-peel strengths were measured using a Cu/polyimide system under varying $N_2^+$ ion beam irradiation conditions for pretreatment. The measured T-peel strength showed reversed camel back shape regarding the fixed metal-layer thickness, which was quite different from the results of the 90° peel test. The elementary analysis suggests that the variation of the T-peel strength is a combined outcome of the plastic bending work of the metal and polymer strips. The results indicate that the peel strength increases with $N_2^+$ ion beam irradiation energy at the fixed metal-layer thickness.

Establishment of Analytical Method for Propylene Glycol Alginate in Food Products by Size-exclusion Chromatography (Size-exclusion chromatography법에 의한 식품 중 알긴산프로필렌글리콜 분석법 확립)

  • An analytical method for determination of propylene glycol alginate (PGA) in food products was developed by HPLC-size-exclusion chromatography. The GF-7M HQ column and LT-ELSD detector were determined by considering the instrumental analysis conditions for PGA analysis. The pretreatment method for the analysis of PGA was suitable for 3 hr extraction at $20^{\circ}C$ and 150 rpm according to the extraction temperature. Linearity ($R^2$) for the analysis of PGA was 0.9873 at calibration curve range of 300, 500, 700, 1,000, and 1,500 mg/kg (5 points). The limit of detection and limit of quantification of PGA on HPLC system was 171.43 and 519.50 mg/kg, respectively. The accuracy and coefficient of variation obtained by size-exclusion chromatography were 86.1~110.4% and 4.1~13.5%, respectively. By applying the HPLC-size-exclusion chromatography system, it was possible to analyze the contents of PGA in 134 different types of food products.

Interfacial Adhesion and Reliability between Epoxy Resin and Polyimide for Flexible Printed Circuit Board (연성인쇄회로기판의 에폭시수지와 폴리이미드 사이의 계면접착력 및 신뢰성 평가)

  • The effects of KOH pretreatment and annealing conditions on the interfacial adhesion and the reliability between epoxy resin and polyimide substrate in the flexible printed circuit board were quantitatively evaluated using $180^{\circ}$ peel test. The initial peel strength of the polyimide without the KOH treatment was 29.4 g/mm and decreased to 10.5 g/mm after 100hrs at $85^{\circ}C/85%$ R.H. temperature/humidity treatment. In case of the polyimide with annealing after KOH treatment, initial peel strength was 29.6 g/mm and then maintained around 27.5 g/mm after $85^{\circ}C/85%$ R.H. temperature/humidity treatment. Systematic X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis results showed that the peel strength after optimum annealing after KOH treatment was maintained high not only due to effective recovery of the polyimide damage by the polyimide surface treatment process, but also effective removal of metallic ions and impurities during various wet process.

Effect of Nitric Oxide Pretreatment on Quality of MA Packaged Peaches (일산화질소(NO) 전처리가 MA포장 복숭아의 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • Effect of nitric oxide (NO) treatment on physiology and quality characteristics of peaches (Prunus persica L. Batsch) was determined. Peaches were treated for 4 hr with NO (0, 10, 100 ppm) gas under oxygen-free atmosphere at $10^{\circ}C$, packaged with 0.05-mm LDPE film, and stored at $10^{\circ}C$ for 15 days. Treatment with 100 ppm NO reduced the ethylene production and the loss of flesh firmness in peaches, but did not affect soluble solids, titratable acidity, and surface color. Oxygen-free atmosphere induced the reduction of respiration rate and ethylene production. Modified atmosphere packaging retarded the loss of flesh firmness and surface greenness, but decreased soluble solids and titratable acidity regardless of NO treatment.

Development of surface functional coating thin film utilizing combined processes of plasma activation surface treatment and nanoclay dispersion: In applications for transparent water vapor and oxygen barrier packaging films (플라즈마 활성화 표면처리 공정과 나노클레이 분산 적층 코팅을 이용한 표면 기능성 코팅 박막 개발: 수분 및 산소 차단성이 우수한 투명 포장재)

  • Barrier films for transparent packaging materials with excellent moisture barrier properties are prepared, utilizing a nanoclay dispersion coating layer formed after a pretreatment process of plasma activation surface treatment process under vacuum at room temperature. Attention is paid on optimizing the coupling additive through the appropriate crosslinking process and optimal dispersion process of the coating process to enhance adhesion. Analysis of the functional coating thin film shows that the water vapor transmission rate is less than 10 g/m2/24 hrs (ASTM F-1249) and the oxygen transmission rate is less than 30 cc/m2/24 hrs (ASTM D3985). It is shown that water barrier properties of coating thin film prepared in this study are greater than conventional untreated films by 10 times or more. The thickness of the transparent gas barrier film is within 0.1 mm, and the transparent gas barrier complex is implemented in two layers. In the study of PET thin film interface characteristics, FT-IR experimental analysis shows the reaction activity was optimized at RDS 1.125 %.

Improvement of Shelf-life and Quality in Fresh-Cut Tomato Slices:

  • Quality of fresh-cut tomato slices was compared during cold storage under various modified atmosphere packaging conditions. Chilling injury of slices in containers sealed with Film A was higher than with Film B; these films had oxygen transmission rates of 87.4 and 60.0 ml $h^{-1}\;m^{-2}\;atm^{-1}$ at $5^{\circ}C\;and\;99\%$ RH, respectively. While slices in containers with an initial atmospheric composition of air, $4\%\;CO_2+1\;or\;20\%\;O_2,\;8\%\;CO_2+1\;or\;20\%\;O_2,\;or\;12\%\;CO_2+20\%\;O_2$ showed fungal growth, slices in containers with $12\%\;CO_2+1\%\;O_2$ did not. Low ethylene in containers enhanced chilling injury. Modified atmosphere packaging provided good quality tomato slices with a shelf-life of 2 weeks or more at $5^{\circ}C$. Experiments were conducted to compare changes in quality of slices of red tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. 'Sunbeam') fruit from plants grown using black polyethylene or hairy vetch mulches under various foliar disease management systems including: no fungicide applications (NF), a disease forecasting model (Tom-Cast), and weekly fungicide applications (WF), during storage at $5^{\circ}C$ under a modified atmosphere. Slices were analyzed for firmness, soluble solids content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), pH, electrolyte leakage, fungi, yeasts, and chilling injury. With both NF and Tom-Cast fungicide treatments, slices from tomato fruit grown with hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth) mulch were firmer than those from tomato fruit grown with black polyethylene mulch after 12 days storage. Ethylene production of slices from fruit grown using hairy vetch mulch under Tom-Cast was about 1.5- and 5-fold higher than that of slices from WF and NF fungicide treatments after 12 days, respectively. The percentage of water-soaked areas (chilling injury) for slices from tomato fruit grown using black polyethylene mulch under NF was over 7-fold that of slices from tomato fruit grown using hairy vetch under Tom-Cast. When stored at $20^{\circ}C$, slices from light-red tomato fruit grown with black polyethylene or hairy vetch mulches both showed a rapid increase in electrolyte leakage beginning 6 hours after slicing. However, slices from tomato fruit grown using the hairy vetch mulch tended to have lower electrolyte leakage than those grown with black polyethylene mulch. These results suggest that tomato fruit from plants grown using hairy vetch mulch may be more suitable for fresh-cut slices than those grown using black polyethylene mulch. Also, use of the disease forecasting model Tom-Cast, which can result in lower fungicide application than is currently used commercially, resulted in high quality fruit for fresh-cut processing. Experiments were conducted to determine if ethylene influences chilling injury, as measured by percentage of slices exhibiting water-soaked areas in fresh-cut tomato slices of 'Mountain Pride' and 'Sunbeam' tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.). Ethylene concentration in containers without ventilation significantly increased during storage at $5^{\circ}C$, whereas little or no accumulation of ethylene occurred in containers with one or six perforations. Chilling injury was greatest for slices in containers with six perforations, compared to slices in containers with one perforation, and was over 13-fold greater than that of slices in control containers with no perforations. An experiment was also performed to investigate the effectiveness of including an ethylene absorbent pad in containers on subsequent ethylene accumulation and chilling injury. While ethylene in the no-pad controls increased continually during storage of both 'Mountain Pride' and 'Sunbeam' tomatoes at $5^{\circ}C$ under modified atmosphere conditions, no increase in accumulation of ethylene was observed in containers containing ethylene absorbent pads throughout storage. The ethylene absorbent pad treatment resulted in a significantly higher percentage of chilling injury compared with the no-pad control. In studies aimed at inhibiting ethylene production using AVG during storage of slices, the concentration of ethylene in control containers (no AVG) remained at elevated levels throughout storage, compared to containers with slices treated with AVG. Chilling injury in slices treated with AVG was 5-fold greater than that of controls. Further, we tested the effect of ethylene pretreatment of slices on subsequent slice shelf-life and quality. In slices treated with ethylene (0, 0.1, 1, or $10\;{mu}L\;L^{-1}$) immediately after slicing, ethylene production in non-treated controls was greater than that of all other ethylene pre-treatments. However, pretreatment of slices 3 days after slicing resulted in a different pattern of ethylene production during storage. Ihe rate of ethylene production by slices treated with 1 L $L^{-1}$ ethylene 3 days after slicing was greater during storage than any of the other ethylene treatments. With slices pre-treated with ethylene, both immediately and 3 days after slicing, the rate of ethylene production tended to show an negative correlation with chilling injury. Storage Trial of Preliminary Processed Peach (복숭아 일차가공품(一次加工品)의 저장성(貯藏性)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • To enable off-season peach canning, peaches were halved and processed into solid packs. Following variables were compared in relation to storage stability of solid packs. First as pretreatment-dipping in citric and ascorbic solution after lye peeling; second as pasturization in pouch and hot fill process; third as packaging method-2 ply(PET/PE) and 3 ply(PET/Al/PE) plastic film pouch and metal container; fourth as storage condition $-20^{\circ}C\;and\;-5^{\circ}C$. After 25 weeks storage test, all peaches in different packs were processed into canned peaches just like commercial products, and then quality was organoleptically evaluated from the viewpoint of processing and storage variable of solid packs. The results are follows; 1. Ascorbic acid dipping in 3 ply pouch and citric acid dipping in 2 ply pouch had better quality retention effect than any other pretreatments in respective packing. 2. Pasteurization method gave great effect on the color and texture of the solid pack during storage, but not on the quality of the final canned peach. 3. Can and 3 ply packing were better than 2 ply pouch in storage of solid pack and quality of final canned peach. 4. The $5^{\circ}C$ storage gave better quality than $20^{\circ}C$.
