  • In this paper, the behavior of plastic zone in the notch tip was studied under Loye's Micro Vickers Hardness Measurement Method. The direction forming maximum plastic zone was estimated by finite element analysis. In the experiments, cold rolling sheet SGCD3, SK5 and hot rolling sheet SS41, S4SC was used to study the influence of carbon contents on plastic zone. The standard hardness test specimen and the notch hardness test specimen was made and loaded cyclically. The specimen was aged to stabilize the hardness. After aging treatment, the notch specimen was made and simple tension load of 50% yield strength was applied. The hardness test at the notch tip until the hardness data of standard hardness specimen was checked was performed.

  • Bake hardenability of batch annealed steel sheets is investigated in connection with the amount of tensile deformation and the bake hardening condition. This study associates with the method for producing bake hardening materials by means of batch annealing process and for measuring bake hardenability which is not yet fully established. The experimental result demonstrates the relationship between strain distribution and bake hardening behavior in various bake hardening conditions, which provides an essential information for automobile design and related sheet metal forming in a press shop. The result also shows the bake hardenability of the tested material increases as the baking temperature is increased from 150.deg. C. The result assures the bake hardening materials can guarantee reasonably high strength as well as good uniformity in yield strength for the automobile body by sheet metal forming process.

  • FBG sensor system is applied to the concrete lining structure in Taegu subway. Near the structure, the power cable tunnel construction started. We wanted to measure the deformation of the structure due to the construction by the FBG sensor. The applied sensor has the gauge length of 1 meter to overcome the inhomogeneity of the concrete material with enough length. In order to fix tightly to the structure, the partially stripped parts of the sensor glued to the package and slip phenomenon between fiber and acrylate jacket was prevented. Prestrain of the sensor was imposed by controlling the two fixed points with bolts and nuts in order to measure compressive strain as well as tensile strain. The behavior of subway lining structure could be monitored very well.

  • Transparent and stretchable conductors are expected to be an essential component in future stretchable optoelectronic devices. Until now, two main methods have been commonly employed to fabricate transparent and stretchable conductors by using metal nanomaterials: creating buckling configurations and creating network configurations. In this report, a novel strategy for obtaining transparent and stretchable conductors is presented, one that employs these two main approaches simultaneously. To the best of our knowledge, this proposed configuration of a buckled long nanofiber network in this study has not yet been reported. In order to provide the transparent conductors with dual mode stretchability originating from simultaneous buckled and network configurations, a buckled Au@polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofiber network (hereafter referred to BANN for convenience) was fabricated by transferring Au-metallized electrospun PVP nanofibers onto a prestrained polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate. Our BANN shows considerably lower strain sensitivity of resistance than that of straight Au@PVP nanofiber network. Durability tests conducted by performing cyclic tensile strain reveal that the relative change in resistance of BANN (prestrain = 20%) is quite small after 1000 cycles. We also demonstrate that this BANN exhibits superior performance over widely used indium tin oxide conductors with regard to high optical transmittance and low sheet resistance.

  • Static restoration mechanism during hot interrupted deformation of Cu-Zn alloy was studied in the temperature range from $550^{\circ}C$ to $750^{\circ}C$ and at a constant strain rate of 0.1/sec. At a given temperature, the hot interrupted deformations were performed with variation of interrupted time $t_i$ form 1 to 50 sec and of interrupted strain ${\varepsilon}_i$ from 0.15 to 0.90. From the analysis of the values of the critical strain of ${\varepsilon}_c$ for tje initiation of dynamic recrystallization and the peak strain of${\varepsilon}_p$, the relationship ${\varepsilon}_c{\fallingdotseq}0.7{\varepsilon}_p$ was obtained. It was clarified that the softening of the interrupted deformation was mainly the static recrystallization and the fractional softening(FS) which was over 30% mostly confirmed this result. The fractional softening of the interrupted time $t_i$ especially and pre-strain. The FS increased with increasing strain rate, interrupted time and pre-strain. The change of microstructures after hot deformation could be predicted by the FS. when the FS was 30~100%, static recrystallization was happened and grain growth was observed at the condition which was $750^{\circ}C$ deformation temperature, 0.45 prestrain and this condition's FS value was over 100%.

  • The influence of pre-strain on low cycle fatigue behavior of Fe-18Mn-0.05Al-0.6C TWIP steel was studied by conducting axial strain-controlled tests. As-received plates were deformed by rolling with reduction ratios of 10 and 30%, respectively. A triangular waveform with a constant frequency of 1 Hz was employed for low cycle fatigue test at the total strain amplitudes in the range of ${\pm}0.4\;{\sim}\;{\pm}0.6$ pct. The results showed that low-cycle fatigue life was strongly dependent on the amount of pre-strain as well as the strain amplitude. Increasing the amount of prestrain, the number of reversals to failure was significantly decreased at high strain amplitudes, but the effect was negligible at low strain amplitudes. A new model for predicting fatigue life of pre-strained body has been suggested by adding ${\Delta}E_{pre-strain}$ to the energy-based fatigue damage parameter. Also, high-cycle fatigue lives predicted using the low-cycle fatigue data well agreed with the experimental ones.

  • Thermomechanical behavior and mechanical properties of A16061 matrix composite with shape memory alloy(SMA) fiber are studied by using fnite element analysis(FEA). The smartness of the SMA is given due to the shape memory effect of the TiNi fiber which generates compressive residual stress in the matrix material when healed after being prestrained. In this paper, an analytical model is assumed two dimentional axisymetric model of one fiber and around the matrix. To evaluate the strength of composite usig FEM, the concept of smart composite was simulated on computer. The Shape memory effect(SME) simulation is very difficult using FEM because of the nonlinear analysis and the elastic plastic analysis. Thus, in this paper, the FEA was carried out at two critical temperature conditions; room temperature and high temperature(363K). The analysis is compare the finite element analysis result with the test result for the analysis validity.

  • Hypereutectic Al-Si alloys have been regarded attractive for automotive and aerospace application, due to high specific strength, good wear resistance, high thermal stability, low thermal expansion coefficient and good creep resistance. Spray casting of hypereutectic Al-Si alloy has been reported to provide distinct advantages over ingot metallurgy (IM) or rapid solidification/powder metallurgy (RS/PM) process in terms of microstructure refinement. In this study, hypereutectic Al-25Si-2.0Cu-1.0Mg alloy was prepared by OSPREY spray casting process. The change of strain rate sensitivity and Creep transition were analyzed by using the load relaxation test and constant creep test. High temperature deformation behavior of the hypereutectic Al-Si alloy has been investigated by applying the internal variable theory proposed by Chang et al. Especially, the creep resistance of spray casted hypereutectic Al-Si alloy can be enhanced considerably by the accumulation of prestrain.

  • Shape memory alloys (SMAs) find many applications in smart composite structural systems as the active components. Their ability to provide a high force and large displacement makes them an excellent candidate for an actuator for controlling the shape of smart structures. In this paper, using a macroscopic model that captures the thermo-mechanical behaviors and the two-way shape memory effect (TWSME) of SMAs smart morphing polymeric composite shell structures like shape-changeable UAV wings is demonstrated and analyzed numerically and experimentally when subjected to various kinds of pressure loads. The controllable shapes of the morphing shells to that thin SMA strip actuator are attached are investigated depending on various phase transformation temperatures. SMA strips start to transform from the martensitic into the austenitic state upon actuation through resistive heating, simultaneously recover the prestrain, and thus cause the shell structures to deform three dimensionally. The behaviors of composite shells attached with SMA strip actuators are analyzed using the finite element methods and 3-D constitutive equations of SMAs. Several morphing composite shell structures are fabricated and their experimental shape changes depending on temperatures are compared to the numerical results. That two results show good correlations indicates the finite element analysis and 3-D constitutive equations are accurate enough to utilize them for the design of smart composite shell structures for various applications.

  • In the present paper, it is attempted to reconfirm the "Intelligent" material properties using both the sintered TiNi/Al(1100) matrix composite made by powder metallurgy method and the squeeze-casted TiNi/Al6061 specimens. A metal matrix composite is, its fault has been considered to deteriorate a strength of composite by heating residual stress of the matrix. Therefore, it is necessary to remove a tensile residual stress, to produce the strength of a composite better. On the contrary, if compressive residual stress happens in matrix of composite in place of tensile residual stress, it will make the strength of composite better. So that, this paper introduce the development of a high strength of composite, by using compressive residual stress well, on the study. By using these specimens, shape memory strengthening effects in tensile strength and fatigue crack propagation above inverse transformation temperature of TiNi fiber were investigated. We occurs the prestrain and volume fraction for to discuss the effects of a composite strength. Moreover, by SEM observation, the effect of the residual stress at the interface between Al matrix and TiNi fiber and some brittle precipitation layers such as inter metallic compounds on fracture mechanisms was discussed metallurgically.urgically.
